After Wendy reflects on writing the song that has comforted and haunted us all since Prince's death, and talks about processing his loss, she gives a heartbreaking and heart-healing performance. As Wendy says, 'our own little Shiva'.
The audience, unprompted, comes in on the chorus, singing ever so softly. Almost like a whisper, sounding like a choir of children. I was done. I had a lump in my throat the size of a golf ball. These lyrics where art and life eerily come together, hitting me in the chest.

Even amidst the sorrow, it felt good. I was glad I was there to share this beautiful moment with friends, fellow fans and Prince's treasured musical collaborators.

I' m still aching from his death. He played the soundtrack to my life, from my first crush at age 11 to now, age 46. Damn! How can you ache and miss someone you never met?

I feel your pain Thomas, I feel the same way about Prince, even more so when I lost Michael Jackson. From the Jackson 5, to Michael's solo work; I never got the chance to see him live or to meet him, but he felt like my family, my brother. When the world lost him, I cried for 3 months, and I guess I'll feel that pain for the rest of my life, because he meant that much to me. Michael & Prince, were both God's gift to us, He spoke through both of them, and it was beautiful, and they touched us all, down to the core, but they both live on through all of us.

These musicians and composers we love and never meet are our most reliable friends. They’re always there when we need them. I think that’s what causes an extra punch to the gut. But the good thing about music is that it’s forever and that’s a mighty long time. And as long as music never dies they never do either. Not fully.

Wendy handles herself so delicately, what a moving performance. I particularly love when she needs a pause to reflect on the friendship over those gloriously years in the purple era. Her emotion and dignity, how she sings directly to him. Very touching it made me cry.

A few months before Prince passed away, I knew not much about him. However, I clearly recall wanting to buy a ticket for his solo tour that stopped by Montreal city, where I live. I was strangely sad, for an artist I knew very little, when I found out the show was sold out. I felt something about him that I had never felt before... then Prince passed away. I saw his video playing on While my guitar gently weeps at the George Harrison tribute and instantly knew he was one of the best musician to ever grace the Earth. I started asking my dad, who have 45 years plus experience in the music industry, who he was. I was stunned when he told me the story of when he went to Paisley Park (!!!) to record a few demos for a project that never saw the light of day (the singer was in love with him and he was not, she didn't took it well unfortunately!) and said it was the greatest experience of his life as a musician. Even if he had a big career as a composer in France, he said that the level of sheer respect any artist, even the most unknown guy like him was given in Prince's palace was simply out of this world. He also said that Prince was the greatest musician he had ever seen - apparently you could see him rehearse through transparent floors/ceiling in plexiglass! After that, he gave up entirely on his studio career in France, disgusted by the egos polluting the industry, and went unto recording some of the last traditional black Berber musicians in Morocco.
To this day my dad plays music. He even got a TH-cam channel, under the name Batzic, if you're curious. I am honoured that his talent was once noticed by Prince. RIP the Great Purple One

One night after his passing, I sat with someone who knew "him" better than many could, (spent day and night with him) and reminisced about the man, listening to this and other songs of his and trying to hold it together.

From what most that worked with Prince have always said Prince will try and extract your very best musicianship. Lisa and a few others must have IT to be apart of his band. My little brother loved Prince music during a time when I totally couldn't relate to Prince's fashion style. Now that Prince is gone I remember so many songs he gave to other artist you'd never realized he wrote. Never saw him in concert but wished I did!!!

I think she needs to make her own music.that was a touching song having your own rhythm and melody and lyrics there's a reason why prince hired her.she got a good sound.i think she can do it.its a skill to bring other people in to your song and heart to have people feel what you feel .I like to sing with them it's like I'm feeling their heart and and their song is coming my heart the words and rhythm and melody.prince had his own style you have to find yours and make it your own.

I’m not a fan of anyone covering Prince’s songs but with Wendy it’s a different story....
Fintan Raistrick she did in deed but Prince did 99.9% of the vocals on it. I just prefer any song sung by Prince should be left that way. But each to their own.
they wrote this song that night...this song is about the end of Prince and The Revolution.Prince lost his friend that night..Tracy is The Revolution. Prince died the day they wrote it so he got to go see Tracy again. It went full circle i guess. They played this at his funeral..crazy

We got 15 inches of snow in Bangor a few days ago (really late to get so much), and of course it made me think of this song... I'd be honored if some Prince fans would take a listen to my acoustic piano & vocal performances of PURPLE RAIN and DIAMONDS & PEARLS on my YT channel in tribute to the greatest songwriter/producer/multi-instrumentalist of all time.
