University of Utah Singers performs Moses Hogan's "Elijah Rock" at the Rotary International Closing Plenary Session June 20, 2007 in Salt Lake City Utah under the direction of Dr. Brady Allred - เพลง
of all choirs, this is the best ive heard who've done the trio (by moses hogan) Sing till the spirit, Elijah Rock, and Joshua Fit the battle. Im planning on getting my choir to sing these songs, because they capture me, and these people sing them with the POWER i love.
My junior high concert choir class is singing this and Battle of Jericho which is also by Moses Hogan. We are doing it for our last choir concert this year. After 27 years, this is our amazing teacher's last year here so we are going big. Rocky Mountain Jr. High will miss you Mr. Saunders 😢
We are doing the same songs 😂
@@daytonhall3434 That's cool! Good luck!
Great job! I did not expect that ending. It was a really nice spin to put on the song. Especially since Im currently at the end of a youtube choir battle with this song. Lol
Love it...that is the FASTEST i've ever heard of this, but wow!
Very good articulation and energy. Kinda speed up throughout the peace but snapped back to the composed tempo. Great dynamics and appearance was amazing!!
They are crisp, clear, in tune, and you can hear every part all the way through. Great performance. I recommend this video for anyone trying to learn the song.
ahhh finaly a song about me :D about time
elijah widmann same XD
A great technical performance. Now put some heart and soul into it. After all, it is a spiritual.
So beautiful. I smiled in tears.
You guys are so amazing! Best performance of this I have heard. Awesome guys!
Wow, that's the best one!
It feels like they went to perform this & the conductor was like "okay guys remember, EVERYTHING STACCATO"
Well that's kinda what's supposed to be soooooo
Yeah, I mean it's almost like the conductor read the sheet music and did what it said....
I'm so glad we're doing this song in my senior year of high school. We only went over the first page today, but I'm so pumped.
i loved it. great job!
Beautiful and mind blowing!!!
tht was amazing!!! i loved every second!!! we sing this in richmond heights show choir!!
Our Choir did this for Northern Ireland UTV Choir of the Year. In the finals we came a narrow 2 second. I loved singing this. My favorite song my school ever did. I was a lower treble.
i LOVE this piece. this may be my favorite piece ive ever sang.
AMAZING! This is a great piece (as all Moses Hogan pieces) and this was a great performance! Well done!
Your sound is so blended and crisp and clean and just awesome!!! I love the tenors! : ) !!
Faulkner University came to my school and sang this one year...it was so AMAZING!! this choir did a great job as well. :)
Yall betta ssaaaannngggg!!!
i sang this last year in choir i was an alto 2 best part ever love altos
Amazing performance!
Fantastic job!! Dr. Allred conducted our all state program in Elko, NV in 1996 and we performed this song. Our high school choir was in no position to rival with the University of Utah Singers, but with Dr. Allred's hard work we did put on one heck of a performance. Thanks for the memories Dr. Allred!
i love the university of utah singers!~!!!!
Great!!! I´ve been following you from Brazil.
I just love ittt
My high school chorus sang this at our christmas chorus , i was 1st soprano :) and the very high note my friend did and she did perfect!
It has been 13 years since you’ve commented this.
Gave me chills!
this is my favorite cover♥
as many times as I've seen this video, I've never noticed that. and now I'm literally crying as how funny it is.
This is so good.
This is art!
I LOVE THIS
Amazing!!
Wow. Best video of this song on the site!
Great job.
These guys flipping awesome
awsome i love this song.
that was AMAZING>
Their sound reminds me of the St. Olaf Choir! (enunciation and all...) I love this!
I live this song
Fabulous performance!! We did this song for All State choir in Elko NV in 1996 under the direction of Dr. Allred (he was awesome by the way). We didn't even sound HALF as good as this!!
i miss choir and this song
wow! really good!!!!!!!
PERFECTION
Flawless!
best song n the world
My school's choir is doing this piece for our spring concert.
i'm pretty freakin' stoked about it.
Nice arrangement.
I love how at ~2:04 when the bass/baritone/tenors start the "Satan ain't nothing but a/Snake in the grass/he's a devil, he's a liar/Hallelujah Lord!" part.....super crisp and clean. I love the tone of accusing in the voice of the bass/baritones.
My high school choir did this song for state choir, we were rated 1 :-) it is a very hard song, but it is also a very fun! I was an Alto 2... I miss those days!
Ahhh we’re doing it this fall
We just did this for are spring concert it's such an amazing piece. I was alto 1. ALTO GANG
Did this in my chorale this past school year. So much fun :)
You guys pulled this off very well. (:
Omg.... My fav song!!!!!!!! Performed in the a da 2012 all state honor choir ( first tenor )
They did a very good job, in my opinion. It was powerful. The tones, the tempo, that little high, low move interspersed. They practiced this song diligently, had to have!!! Also, the choir members possibly had to audition. They are accomplished.💯❤❤❤
awesome!!!! :)
They are awesome.
IMPRESSIVE! WOW! 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾
Perfect..very good
Moses Hogan himself taught this song to us when I was in the Louisiana All state chorus. Where's the soul? Pitch perfect...yes..but... Where's the pain one should feel while seeking God's deliverance behind these words?
It is a choir.... they are vocalists, not actors. They did a great job on a very difficult song.

Your opinion.
Amazing
I absolutely love this song and this version! Best on TH-cam in my opinion ^.^
Oh, and I'm a soprano 1 singing this :)
I love this song!! I heard the singers from Faulkner University do it live and I've loved it ever since. 2:17-2:25 is so cool!! I love hearing my 1st Saprano part really strong! The bass was great, tenors were good too. I couldn't hear much alto but I heard them a little which made the song sound nice.
my school choir did this song but i gotta leave it to this one cause they did a freaking amazing job
I just performed this in the BSC mass choir for the choir festival there yesterday and we did so much better
For those of you who said this is a pop song, please do not comment on the quality of the voices, first of all, because this is a spiritual NOT a pop song! Also, this is not too fast. While it is TINY bit faster than the suggested tempo on the sheet music, they had the ability to decrescendo and retardando: an indication that the swiftness was intended. Also, my high school try-out choir is doing this right now, and we sound way better. Our tenors don't sound like young boys, and our sopranos don't swoop as much, a serious no-no on most music pieces. Their facial expressions were dull as well. Overall, it didn't impress me.
Lolololol ignorance. Their tenors don't sound like young boys, you are just so set on your high school choir and you think NO choir can be as good as yours, right? Because yours is perfect but this collegiate group of singers is so flawed.
Matt Huckaba After going back and watching this again after completing the piece and competing with it, I believe that their singers are definitely superior to ours, negating my previous comment on the tenors and sopranos, but I did notice that it really is quite too fast... to the point of not being able to understand them and creating lack of blending. Please don't refer to me as ignorant though, because my choir is 1/3 the size of this one, completely mixed around so you are near no one of the same part, and everyone is in high school. It is held to elite standards similar to a collegiate choir. If you heard it, I would believe that you would agree it is above and beyond most high school choirs.
Goosebumps such a good rendition wish I could sing for this college! Listen to Eaton Rapids High school chamber choir music T'1's that's me
I loved being a first soprano on this song. :)
I'm singing this song in my choir
wow this makes me want to go to utah!
Same here. I was Tenor 2. Amazing times
Super diversified group!
Pls. watch UST singers.. Elijah.. really ROCK!!!
WOW!!!
nice job!
omg we are learning this with my womens ensemble. SO HARD! haha
Ah, this has so much energy! I love that the choir seems genuinely excited to sing it.
I mean could they be any more dead and solemn in the face...ughhh....I love how crisp their harmonies were though.
From experience: Their face is just pure concentration, it's so hard to get it right!!!
It’s a spiritual. You’re not supposed to look happy when you’re singing a soulful spiritual. Your face should reflect the lyrics.
It is a choir performance, not a rock concert. These guys aren't actors, they're vocalists.
I've sung this before and their faces are exactly the same as my choir's. This is an insane piece to get right and these people are vocalists. That's what happens when you focus on technique.
omg look at the guy that messed up at 2:50 .......hahaha gets me laughin everytime. :)
they were very professional and the song sounds brilliant.!....very nice blend no section was louder than the other! we see that too often! it was a hott sound
though this may not be exact it is P H E N O M E N A L ! ! hands down!
@Nikhibo Magic by the Ben Folds Five, as performed a cappella by the Voices in Your Head Choir of Chicago University.
Great harmonization!
@KarisJD I wound up getting moved from alto to tenor. Tenor part blew my mind.
this is an insanely fun song to sing. this arrangement wouldn't be as fun as the one i had. i wish i could find it.
Pianoboi90, what makes a 19yr. old kid the authority on what is appropriate and good in choral singing? You make it sound like they committed some heinous crime! I think this is an amazing choir and a great interpretation of a great piece! If you've got Sopranos that can sing those notes then by all means, use them! I personally think Moses Hogan would be darn proud of this performance!!
The chord at 2:33 is pretty much the best chord to grace this earth. EVER.
@VampirFreundin I agree it's too blank I didn't feel much from them but they have amazing voices great blend and great dynamics
perfect
Super good
beast
I got to sing the low alto part and the super high soprano stuff in my high school! I feel so accomplished :3
wow nice
You have every right not to like what they did, but that doesn't make it "completely inappropriate". When you've been around the game a little longer, you'll see that what they've done isn't as unprecedented and awful as you make it sound. The very nature of gospel music is free and moved by the spirit. I maintain that Mr. Hogan (who I've worked with) would've loved this and not be nearly as worried as you are about a few different notes and rhythms. Music is about so much more than that.
Crisp, clear, uncluttered. Superb voice dynamics, no vibratos; the way it should be sung. Bravo!
we have a competition in about a month and we haven't even started to look at this song
2:18 - 2:24 - Kocham ten moment!! ♥♥
I did this for a concert my Sophomore year. I could only do half of the concert since I had to leave for a trip, but when I sang it we were much slower than this, but apparently after I left my choir sang it as fast as this the second time despite our choir teacher trying to make them slow down XD They were probably either 1) Tired and ready to get it over with or 2) Too pumped up by the song and the concert to care. Either way I think it sounds good fast or slow, but I prefer the slow version because it has a little bit more soul to it.
My guy at 0:29 kinda look like John Mulaney and I can't unsee it
