- Mahalia Jackson singing one of my absolute favorites, "Elijah Rock," during 1 of many concerts during her European tour in April of 1961. There is so much power in her voice! The awesome Mildred Falls is the pianist! I hope you all will enjoy!!

MAHALIA AND MILDRED WERE SUCH AN EXCELLENT TEAM TOGETHER
Yes, they really were!
I wish there were more info about Mildred Falls
Amen
Oh yes they were!!!
AMEN🖐🏾!!!!!!
Two wonderful ladies and Ms Mildred Falls never got the recognition that she deserved but greater is her reward in heaven
The true essence of the wind beneath her wings and they soared together in their song renditions.
Very beautifully said!! What men miss,,, The Lord sees!😊
It seems that it is primarily Mahalia’s fan base outside of the Black American church, who acknowledge Mildred’s greatness. All of Mahalia’s jazz fans adored Mildred from John Hammond, to George Avakian and others; they recognize the great talent and support that Mildred Falls was. Her critics tend to come primarily and ironically from church musicians - nevertheless - it was Mildred who directed all those jazz musicians that accompanied her and Mahalia from Mahalia’s 1954-1955 radio and tv segments, CBS recording studio sessions and tv appearances right up to the mid-1960s. It was Mildred’s swing and drive that created the foundation for them to “bounce” along and give Mahalia that New Orleans feel to her music that so many of us cherish to this day. Take a bow Mrs. Mildred Carter-Falls… you were indeed a shining light.
@@JudahCub1981usually in the black church, musicianship is so common that getting extra attention is rare. It’s a good chance that ms Mildred didn’t view herself as any different than other black church musicians. Is there any resources you can point me to in order to see other church musicians criticisms of her? I’m wondering why exactly they were criticizing her.
My dear sister played this album when it came out in about 1961. This was my first exposure to gospel. In recent years, the posting of the video from that tour made me so happy. Mildred Falls has never gotten the recognition that she deserved. Yes, people praise her in the comments but she is the greatest. I love Mahalia
Nobody could sing this song like Mahalia could.❤
I completely agree!🙂
Type Yael Hilton in TH-cam search. You will be stunned at the uncanny resemblance to her voice
Amen!
she's good but no, not even close to Ms. Jackson @@Rashaun1978
She had a strong powerful voice she wasn't even standing by the mic raw talent ❤
My God…. What a voice. This is pure talent with no back up singers. I wish I was there to hear her sing live on the stage.
THE ABSOLUTE GREATEST FEMALE GOSPEL SINGER EVER !
Mildred wasn't playing no games on them keys! Didn't crack one smile!
Yessir! A woman on a mission, helping to push Mahalia and the Word! Oh yes!
Have you heard Mildred Falls on “For My Good Fortune” or “Somebody Touched Me”?
I think Mildred falls with her best accompanist.
Sure wasn't!
Good morning on this Sunday morning that what u call singing I been listening too her all my life now I'm 75 year old still love her thank God 😊 💖 💕
Good music lasts forever 🙂
Thanks so much for stopping by. God Bless You!
Same here
Me too---71 &1/2 my age...🤣😉✝️❗️
That Anointing was just for her. Nobody can teach someone to sing like her, almost 65 years later there has not been anyone like her. Because you can't teach the Anointing!
Amen!!! The truth well said. Nobody like Ms. Mahalia Jackson. U can feel the the Spirit coming from her voice. ❤
AWESOME LEGACY!!! Mahalia's voice truly captured the sound of the faith of our ancestors!!
I agree!
She causes an electric shock of the Holy Spirit to course thru me every time she Claps her hands so powerfully while singing.
Lol I loved it when she'd slammed her hand on a piano 🎹 top! Baby she was feeling that thing
Yes, she was!
The talent & ability to deliver dramatically in song is truly a gift from the ETERNAL 😇❤️🙌🏽
Definitely , Class ,
Best version of this song ever.
Beautiful, powerful, soulful and oh so spiritual! Ms. Jackson and Ms. Falls had extraordinary musicality, and they were perfectly matched on the stage! They showed an unabashed enthusiasm and joy for performing songs of faith!!❤ The amplified claps of Ms. Jackson sends chills to the soul and ornaments the performance!
Those handclaps are almost like Mahalia breaking off whatever is trying to keep people bound.
🙌🏿🙌🏿🙌🏿🙌🏿🙌🏿🙌🏿 i love this version. Ms. Mildred hit that extra note to get right back with Ms. Mahalia so smoothly. In her concerts she'll bring you up high and back down so calmly with the song's she transitions into.
She surely was fired up! Thanks!
Yes, she was!
GREATEST SINGER OF ALL TIME!!!!
American needs this kind of voice to the Lord!!
What a powerful warrior woman!!
She was so powerful that you could feel the holy ghost rising up whenever she sang. Such a beautiful gift to us.
Louise Weaver was another pianist Mahalia toured and recorded with. She was pianist on Apollo's Move On Up A Little Higher.
Most definitely!
This Ms Mildred indeed had the rhythm
My GOD!!!🥺🥺🥺🫶🏾🫶🏾🫶🏾🫶🏾
Oh yessss!!
I think these 1961 concerts and the album: Everytime I Feel The Spirit are the best recordings of her voice. We get the full depth, weight and power of her voice from the halls’ acoustics. There’s also minimal background sounds to take away from its nuances.
Absolutely
One of my MANY FAVS of Ms. Mahalia!!
Ms. Falls was an amazing pianist and was like Mahalia's shadow..... Making sure to flow in harmony. We have so many talented Gospel singers, but no one holds a 🕯️ to this powerful voice.
It's been so neat seeing live clips - I've owned the LP's & CD's for some time, getting to see the Holy Spirit pour out is all you need to know that this most humble woman is singing for the Lord.
Only Sis Mahalia, in my humble opinion, could sing this song with Sis Mildred playing that piano in praise and worship to my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ!❤❤💗😽😽😽
🙏🏽🙏🏽🙌🏽🙌🏽💐💗💐🙌🏽🙌🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽
Thank you...💝💝💝
You're more than welcome!
I know they are many other great gospel singers but I have always believed the greatest is Mahalia Jackson, there is just her voice and Ms Mildred Falls, no backup choirs not many others can lay claim to that. Absolutely loved this.Thank you
I'm so glad that this has blessed you! Mahalia was truly a powerhouse! That's for sure. Thanks for stopping by!
Without a doubt
Definitely the best!
Rowoches! Bless You! Thank you for this video! Love Mahalia keep the old time gospel coming🙏🏿
God Bless You as well! I'm so glad this blessed you!
@@Rowoches Thank you!❤
3:50 That subtle wave 👋🏾 to the crowd silenced them instantly. People listened to Mahalia and watched her every move. They were mesmerized because she was the consummate performer and was incomparable.
You better clap Mahalia! 👏🏾
This is real inspiration and talent. What a blessing that this film exists for all who can appreciate what both of these ladies are sharing with their audience. God Bless you Rowoches for finding and uploading this video!🙏❤️🖤💚💗💕💞💚🖤❤️🙏
God Bless You also! It has been in my collection for many years, and I'm glad to share it with the world.
Mahalia always gives a great performance but she was truly in a rare form there. Some had her feeling like Ms. MAHALIA JACKSON ! that day ♥️
Impossible to hear this and not feel the Holy Spirit!
YES
So awesome
I'm glad you've enjoyed!
I have been waiting years to hear this again!!! Thank you so much and God Bless You. 🥰❤️🙏🏾
She was about to go in 😆😂😆
God bless you for posting this , this was once lost and I couldn’t find this particular version thank you so much
My God 🙏
@4:11-4:13 - when Mahalia hit that piano twice, I believe she "scared" Mildred, for a moment, who slightly jumps, as she was concentrating on playing!
😂😂😂
Heavenly and so much thanks for posting this Rowoches.
I wonder if ever the pianist felt a touch from the Holy Spirit and paused from playing? I wonder if she would be allowed to play again...lol. Just Wondering! Awesome Singing and Music...
What are you asking?
SANG SISTER💃🏾💃🏾💃🏾
Saint Mahalia, up there right now in the throne room of God singing with the heavenly angel s' choir backing her, she's showing them how it's done.
YESSUH!!
Unfortunately I lost access to my old channel "Loewenbach Fiul". Rowoches is one of my references in the world of gospel music.
Wow! I appreciate you. I'm very familiar with your other channel, and your uploads! Thanks for sharing some of your archive with us! When I had an opportunity to see some of the songs from the 1964 Soldier Field appearance, I was ecstatic! 😁
Beautiful!
Todos estarían enamorados de esa mujer!! 🤔❤️

Human, excellence.
Mahalia gained wider recognition and prominence when Mildred Falls became her pianist.
Yes, Mahalia was famous before they teamed up, but exponentially so after they did.
Listen to all the recordings pre Mildred, then all the recordings with Mildred. You will know the difference.
I can't recall the exact wording, but Mildred had somewhat of a boogie fist, as with other genre popular accompaniment at that era.
Yeah, I read that somewhere too. I think it was in her autobiography her second one.
So IS there another female singer of gospel music that is CLEARLY in the same vocal range as her? , yes i understand that we had some that were close, like Lashun Pace.. but she was different. I don't think we will see another Mahalia Jackson.
MERRY CHRISTMAS WORLD 🌎 ❤️
GOD DAM MISSISSIPPI GOD DAM
Do you by any chance have the footage of Mahalia singing The Love Of God during this tour?
Unfortunately, "The Love of God" was cut out from that tape. The intro starts, but it goes to another song.

Is it me or did Mahalia come in a little late? And Mildred quickly adjusted and doubled on those notes so that her entry would be smoother than a fresh jar Skippy?
Yes, you heard correctly. Mahalia had bad timing at times. All of her accompanists knew how to follow her to a tee 🙂
She give mildred the signal with hands on piano and fellow her like glove and mahalia could play piano too
GREATEST SINGER OF ALL TIME!!!!!!!
