  • Join Debashis Basu as he delves into the pressing issue of India's crumbling infrastructure. From collapsing bridges to airports with leaky roofs, this video explores the alarming quality issues plaguing India's massive infrastructure projects. Despite significant government investment exceeding Rs10 lakh crore annually, the execution of these projects remains marred by delays and cost overruns.
Debashis Basu sheds light on the staggering statistics from the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation (MoSPI), highlighting the severe cost escalations and delays in various sectors including railways, water resources, and atomic energy. With over 779 delayed projects and costs soaring by over 18%, the situation is dire.
The video also examines the inefficacies of government initiatives like PRAGATI and the Prime Minister's directives aimed at expediting project completion. Basu discusses the systemic issues causing these delays and overruns, such as land acquisition challenges, bureaucratic red tape, and scope changes.
Watch this in-depth analysis to understand the implications of these infrastructure issues on India's economy, fiscal deficit, and the potential diversion of funds from critical sectors like education and public health.

10's of lakhs of crores spent but little to show in terms of quality and durability of roads/Railways. Some people are merrily pocketing fortunes at taxpayers expense..

Proper utilisation of money and efficiency is more important than just throwing money like hell without considering quality.

Comparison should be done with the situation, which was there in the past. Even thought the average delay of all projects is around 3 years right now, I suspect it would have been much higher earlier.

Ajay Shah also did a nice video on a similar topic.... Rathin Roy, Ajay Shah and you - all of you with high integrity and who are experienced are saying this and it is really worrisome. A thing to note: Nitin Gadkari is also emerging as a big bullshitter wrt to roads.... and these jokers want to make India the next super power

Bhai tu thoda economics padh, agar uska time nahi to TH-cam pe atleast search karle na "Why is China's infra world class?" Ya phir "Why infra spending is absolutely important?".

A notable omission in the list of causes for delays in projects is POLITICAL COMPULSIONS. Knowing full well there is no funds available, projects are included in the "Works Programme" with token allocation of Rs. 1,000/- Which means that it will be a paper project only., to be taken up when funds will be made available. This is done to satisfy political demands, or to win 'polls'. Requests to keep the projects planned to be within the financial availability, is sacrificed at the alter of 'political compulsion' ". This has nothing to do with failure of structures; even during constrtuction stage. where the main reason IS POOR QUALITY CONTROL. In the movie 'jaane bhe do yaroon" a character says, of his competitor; ' Hum to cement mein reth milathey hain Woh to reth mein cement milatha hai' With the reported 40% commission, the casuality will always be :Quality". Wonder really is 'how other structures are faring better'. Nitin Gadkari has stated the persons responsible for poor construction will be held to account. Let us see how this pans out.

The government should have invested heavily in defense equipment and modernization.... instead of taking up too many projects. At least 2 to 2.5 lakh cr should have been allocated for the purpose from the 10 lakh cr budget for infra.

More budget for infrastructure means more money into the pockets of BJP politicians contractors and criminal businessmen IAS officers. 80% of the infra money ends up in corruption corruption corruption loot loot

Majority of corruption done by government babus by delaying the project so that they can enhance the cost and some part of the share will be gone into their pocket.

Subject matter submitted with evidence of statistical analysis provided by the government Agencies are worth listening and worth ponder over for a critical analysis about public projects in India. Best satisfaction would be a Reasonable Response from Concerned Officials from Govt of India or PMO to accept the contention of the submission made by this learned, resourceful Apolitical Economist from Money Life Foundation, Mumbai. Concerned Responsible Officials should develop sensitivity, feel pinch of pain in their heart mind spirit and an apologetic towards dereliction of duties towards citizens of India. Hope God may grant them sufficient wisdom to accept and discharge duties all the times...
