I recently picked up my first PlayStation ever. A PlayStation 3. Was able to find a 60 gig launch model in great shape so I essentially have 3 consoles in one. I’ve been loving discovering games from the ps3 era that I missed out on, but it’s also great to know I can pick up any good ps2 games for cheap and play then right through hdmi on modern setups.

I definitely plan on getting this controller. Recently got myself an Original Copy of Okami & Samurai Legend Musashi. Already have an HDMI pass through adapter.
I used the optical cable back in the day with an expensive(at the time) Pioneer digital receiver and it was pretty mind blowing at the time. The sound quality was definitely ahead of its time.
Other options for scalers are Open Source Scan Converter (OSSC), or just retro think 2x, there's even the GBSC, but you need to mod the GBSC for best results, by default it's actually not good. Also, Brooke just released a PS1/PS2 adapter that you can plug a bunch of modern Xbox/switch/PS3/PS4/PS5/PC controllers to in wired or wireless.
common. Just yesterday I downloaded pcsx2 remembering I loved playing ps2 and struggling to emulate it some years ago and though it should be better now. well, it is basically the same but my hardware is way better now so... yeah, GoW 2 and Black 4k 60 baby. now this video comes right in time, what a coincidence
as of now i feel like pcsx2 is a better way to play ps2 games on a modern tv than using a console. the console will require expensive solutions for upscaling and image adapters, not to mention a lot of thinkering, and the image STILL wont be good, even the best upscalers will leave the image too dark in shadowy areas , you cant see anything properly in a dark area of a game, its really frustrating. with pcsx2 you get the best image possible for modern tvs, without any thinkering or having to learn anything, just hook up a hdmi cable from your pc to the tv and youre done. if you have access to a crt tv then the console itself is unbeatable of course

I bought a slim a month ago and recollected over 30 great games I'm having a blast I've ordered a brook wingman so I can hookup my ps3 controller as most ps2 controllers today are worn in the pressure sensitivity

Love that playstation light you have behind you. I own one. I have several authentic neon signs, but the ps light is my favorite piece. Also retrotink 5x is the best scaler out there hands down.
I haven't turned on my PS5 since April of this year when I finished playing Elden Ring, and I've probably put 300 hours on my PS2 since then. I actually have an earlier OLED TV with built in component ports, but my OSSC makes the console look FANTASTIC over HDMI.
hideo kojima a true digital artist even for the consoles time what he managed to do with metal gear still amazes me i also brought the tactial training game that he released
Ps2 had a rlly good library. Burnout, need for speed, test drive unlimited 1, call of duty, Metal Gear, Rayman, Daxter, Tony Hawk, The Simpsons hit and run, GTA, Metal Gear, Battlefront, Silent Hill, Rachet and Clank, Kingdom Hearts, Persona 3/FES, Time Splitters, Rachet and Clank, God of war. Those are some of the best ps2 games.
I wish I grew up with a PS2, unfortunately I didn't, so thank the emulators for existing. A big chunk of PS2's library already had PC ports too or got one years later, so I'm using emulators just for the exclusives.
Its 2022 so you can use HDD now instead of adding unnecessary wear on a 20 year old optical drive. My setup is similar although not as premium in terms of video output I used the Kaico hdmi box, HDD sata adaptor, 500gb HD, freemcboot memory card. For audio i use a small DAC to convert the optical output to analog and connect into my two channel stereo receiver Same wireless gamepad as in the video

Once my 60 GB PS3 ylod and I was stuck with a slim I didn't like it nearly as much. It was nice having 3 generations of games on one platform but Sony had to ruin that.
My Gf, found a PS2 at her job. Someone donated it. I was so happy! All i had to buy was a new control and an hdmi conveter that was like 12 bucks on amazon. It looks great. Im 16 all over again, hahaha Especially playing GTA3, 2K5, Tony Hawk, and more, haha, the best system!
The Video of my PS2 is hooked up to my projector (kind of a crappy one, but it's fun), while the sound is going to my PC for its surround sound. So much fun gaming that way.
I recently hooked up my old ps2 and to my horror I didn’t have my memory card. So what did I do? I played through the entirety of gta 3 in one sitting. It was fun, but I took a fat break from gaming as a whole after 😂
Awesome video! Lately I’ve been busy and it’s just been annoying to set up old consoles because they take up too much space. But all this stuff looks really cool, especially when newer tvs and monitors have less options.
Another option for controllers if you want something that feels more like a DS2 is using a DS3 with a bluetooth adapter I’m pretty sure 8bitdo makes one
PCSX2 with a DualShock 4 is the best way to play PS2 games in 2022. HD texture packs arrived so fans are finally giving HD remasters to so many niche PS2 games that have no chance of ever getting re-released.
I would love to be able to play classic PS1/PS2 games that I missed out on the first time, but I’m begging for owning a refurbished PS2 and accessories like these. Maybe some day I’ll own them.
Ps2 is really not very expensive. You don’t really need a refurbished because they were built so nicely many of them are not broken. Get one local pickup and you’ll get it cheap.
This is a good update my man thanks It's funny Spawnwave just did a PS2 hard drive peripheral setup update what are the odds you guys are thinking along the same brain wave pattern! ! !
I've been really enjoying the 8bitdo ps2 adapter in conjunction with my ps5 controller. It works perfectly, and I don't notice any latency compared to an old Bluetooth ps2 controller. I plan to get a brook adapter for player 2 or potentially another 8bitdo and shell swap the controller with a crystal blue extreme rate shell. Maybe a more expensive option but it's a fun project I've been working on.
The PlayStation 2 is my favorite system of all time. it was my console of choice for that generation. But honestly the image quality of the PS2 is not very good. Nobody seems to know the reason why. I've used my PS2 with monster component cables with the framemeister for years. It looks really good, but I like to Imagine how much better it would look if developers programmed more of the games to use 480p instead of 480i, and Sony put a better video chip in the system.
Still play my PS2 from time to time. I have it softmodded with FreeMcBoot and simply use Component Cables on my 4K TV (same cables you have in the video). I'd love something like RetroTink, but $300 for this thing is WAY too expensive, I just can't justify that price point.
I was super considering buying a PS2 but just went the emulation route. It was mainly having it look good on a modern display that was the deal breaker for me. No matter how much you spend on cables, the display will never look as good as real resolution upscaling in an emulator. Not to mention emulation supports widescreen hacks.
My setup is similar to his & I love it ^^ I haven't tried the new Steelseries Arctis Nova Pro with the PS2 yet, but I don't doubt it'll sound excellent

I play Balders Gate 1 and 2 almost exclusively on my ps2. Sharpness isn't really an issue as much as contrast. Using a game stop adapter the bright parts hurt your eyes and the dark places( dungeons and forests are almost black. Can't get the TV or console to hit a happy medium. 😮
It's my all time favorite. I'd sell my PS3 launch for one if I didn't like playing my PS3 games as well. I have a PS2 and screen in my explorer how much I love it and will keep it if I upgrade vehicles.
PS2 is fantastic! Never had it in my childhood and played some PC ports. A few years ago I've finally picked a fat model, a Sony CRT, a good RGB SCART cable and I'm loving it. And for the modern displays I use OSSC.
Ok, so my friends dads collection inspired me, I got that hyperkin like 2-3 months ago now and LOVE it compared to component, he has some expensive one too but anyone on a budget… that hyperkin no joke, kinda crazy for price, 30$ on Lukie

I agree NFS Underground 1,2 plus Dragon Ball Z Budukai 1,2,3 take me back
My Gf, found a PS2 at her job. Someone donated it. I was so happy! All i had to buy was a new control and an hdmi conveter that was like 12 bucks on amazon. It looks great. Im 16 all over again, hahaha
Especially playing GTA3, 2K5, Tony Hawk, and more, haha, the best system!
The Video of my PS2 is hooked up to my projector (kind of a crappy one, but it's fun), while the sound is going to my PC for its surround sound. So much fun gaming that way.
Feels like I haven't seen a video from you for a while. Miss you Kevin ♥️
I think black frame insertion is for motion clarity. Not latency. It’s real nice to have for stuff like sonic.
Black frame insertion does not decrease lag; it reduces motion blur. If anything, it increases lag slightly
Another option for controllers if you want something that feels more like a DS2 is using a DS3 with a bluetooth adapter I’m pretty sure 8bitdo makes one
8bitdo's adapter doesn't support the dualshock 3 for some odd reason and they don't seem interested in adding support for it.
PCSX2 with a DualShock 4 is the best way to play PS2 games in 2022. HD texture packs arrived so fans are finally giving HD remasters to so many niche PS2 games that have no chance of ever getting re-released.
*Certain PS2 games. Some games still don't really work with PCSX2, even on a powerful PC.
I would love to be able to play classic PS1/PS2 games that I missed out on the first time, but I’m begging for owning a refurbished PS2 and accessories like these. Maybe some day I’ll own them.
What’s stopping you? Theyre cheap as shit
Ps2 is really not very expensive. You don’t really need a refurbished because they were built so nicely many of them are not broken. Get one local pickup and you’ll get it cheap.
I Love The Ps2 , It’s My Favorite Console ever! , It has Many Great And Fun Games To Play & To Choose From! 💯🔥👍
Literally past week I was thinking about getting a Defender Controller and reviving my PS2. Talking about timing.
This is a good update my man thanks
It's funny Spawnwave just did a PS2 hard drive peripheral setup update what are the odds you guys are thinking along the same brain wave pattern! ! !
Reasons why I kept my PS3! PS1 and PS2 games support 🙂
In my Case, i use PS2 component cable (R/G/B) on my HD CRT and it looks amazing.
Should I get a CRT to try it out?
The PlayStation 2 is my favorite system of all time. it was my console of choice for that generation. But honestly the image quality of the PS2 is not very good. Nobody seems to know the reason why. I've used my PS2 with monster component cables with the framemeister for years. It looks really good, but I like to Imagine how much better it would look if developers programmed more of the games to use 480p instead of 480i, and Sony put a better video chip in the system.
Duelshock 2 is a more authentic ps2 controller experience IMO
I still have the PS2 original and the slim. I’m definitely going to look into this wireless controller and headset.
I remember spending my Summer Job money on a PS2. Worth it!
This setup is cool. I'd switch out that Retro Fighters controller for a Brook adapter and use a Dualshock 4.
Still play my PS2 from time to time. I have it softmodded with FreeMcBoot and simply use Component Cables on my 4K TV (same cables you have in the video). I'd love something like RetroTink, but $300 for this thing is WAY too expensive, I just can't justify that price point.
Get GSM and upscale to 1080i
@@realone3602 I have it, but it doesn't work great for certain games. Like DBZ BT3 looks like crap in 1080i.
Thx mate, just got my PS2 today and was thinking about to play wireless on it. 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
Love the Ps2 still playing mine with my other retro consoles next to my New Ps5 👍👍
My setup is similar to his & I love it ^^
I haven't tried the new Steelseries Arctis Nova Pro with the PS2 yet, but I don't doubt it'll sound excellent
I’ll never forget my first time starting up my pS2….. my first game was Kingdom Hearts. I lost my damn mind in 02
SNES is my all time favorite. GBA SP is a close second. PS2 is a close third.
Friday night when everyone going outside drinking n doing cool stuffs one dude sit on his balcony rolled a big fat joint n smoke it all alone staring at the moon n starts after the sesh he pull his ps2 from his locker with a brand new original ds2 controller ,a 250 hardisk with fully loaded games like metal gear solid, black, gta all series ,bully ,resident evil, downhill domination, all nfs ,all silent hillss, tekken 5, moto gps ect n chill in gta vice city high af till 3am damn ps2 is one trippy console
Thank u my friend, will be looking into this
I play Balders Gate 1 and 2 almost exclusively on my ps2.
I have a PS2 and screen in my explorer how much I love it and will keep it if I upgrade vehicles.
i love that controller theyre really doing something cool that brand
I love the 6th gen consoles and the
7th gen handhelds
PS2 is fantastic! Never had it in my childhood and played some PC ports. A few years ago I've finally picked a fat model, a Sony CRT, a good RGB SCART cable and I'm loving it. And for the modern displays I use OSSC.
PS2 will always have a special place in my heart and soul... #Nostalgia #Childhood #Memories I still have my PS2 even in 2022 👌✌☯️
Love retro era content. I'm using the mclassic on for my Wii.
Don't use the mclassic it crushes shadow detail and ruins the colour and contrast
@@MichaelM28 might just be a sugar pill for me lol
I play my ps2 games on my jailbroken PS3, RSX overclocked, fastest SSD and while being upscaled. It can hang with PSX2 emulation 👀
Doing the same and I really love the jailbroken ps3 for that
I would never go back to those old ass t.v. that high pitch frequency drives mad
I personally prefer the hd retrovision component cables to get the very best picture possible. Great video though!
It was my Childhood gaming when I was a Kid in the 2000s
Welcome back!
Ok, so my friends dads collection inspired me, I got that hyperkin like 2-3 months ago now and LOVE it compared to component, he has some expensive one too but anyone on a budget… that hyperkin no joke, kinda crazy for price, 30$ on Lukie
the ps2 was the peak of console gaming and also the peak of media entertainment in all of human history
Just so everyone is aware, there is absolutly no issues with just plugging in cords to the retrotink and start playing you do not have to do any tinkering at all to it, just as simple as plugging in a dvd player
