One thing I want to add to the list of ADHD behaviors: I can't watch a TH-cam video without scrolling through other videos or comment sections in order to make it through the entire video.

Same. I don't even go to the movies anymore because I dread having to sit there for 3 hrs. Even if I'm actually enjoying the movie, I feel anxiety about the things I'm NOT doing during that seemingly long investment of time. I've brought books to the theater and I have read them all the way up to the trailers just to make me feel better.

Well said. I know I have a mild case of ADD. Two of my kids have ADHD. You explain everything so well. I wish people would understand that by being or putting someone on the right meds is a life of feeling normal. It's not a bad thing but a weighted choice to help not hurt your kids.

Well, sadly won't help with our symptoms and in different life areas. But if there is science and proof behindit and research, sure :) And balance exercises also strengthen some parts in the brain, esp. some that are involved in executive function. There are also research papers about that and Dr. Hallowell also talks about it (and in his book ADHD 2.0).

Just came across this video today I saw a psychiatrist and was recently diagnosed with not only ADHD but also depression, which I did not know I had. i just started bupropion Which is the same thing as Wellbutrin. I am currently on day five I sort of feel some effects like I’m making better decisions but I feel I can do so much better. If I had a stimulant do you think you can describe the difference you feel on Wellbutrin versus Adderall?

Consider my mind boggled. I'm still undiagnosed, but will hopefully get my diagnosis soon so I can try medication myself. I've always been told, and in turn told myself, that everything can only be achieved through hard work, and this has turned out to be an extremely toxic mindset for someone who can't achieve anything because their brain doesn't let them (spoiler: That's me!). Sure, hard work is how things are achieved, but nobody told me that it's not normal how much I struggle doing ANY work at all.

@@DoctorJamesJames see this is exactly why I am apprehensive. I have add symptoms that were actually assessed by an educational psychologist at age 15. However I also test out some of the time on the autism spectrum depending on the test. And I have three different learning differences in the way of amblyopia dysgraphia and dyscaculia. And I am an adoptee that was left in the hospital for a week. And then shuffled around for the week after that and put on a plane. So while I do not begrudge anyone relief from overload of stimulus. I already know that my neurochemistry is not the same as the majority of ADHD folks because I have to be careful with just caffeine and it's effects on me. So Vyvanse and Adderall are not going to be something I gamble with, and due to a family history of dementia I can't risk the other stuff. But thank you for your thoughts.

I've taken it for about 10 years total between ages 15 and 25, Your body gets used to it a little , obviously. Your hunger fades. You will have a slight come down when it leaves your system of maybe some irritability. . I hope you can take this on the lowest dosage possible because it can be extremely addictive.

I really wanna try it. I cant stop thinking and thinking and thinking it legit makes it hard to sleep. I was on it as a child. And Then I quit for a while and never went back on it. Then the clinic I go to won't prescribe any narcotic med's. So I'm stuck on Non-narcotic ADHD meds and welbutrin and it's gives me mild very mild maybe hardly any peace where I can take it then fall asleep. Sims knock me out like caffeine and nicotine. I can't sleep without it. And its really really annoying I feel like i'm still going no where at 33 and I wanna be productive but it's impossible some times. Coming on suboxone (I turned to H after a my hydrocodone ran out and they again would give it to me anymore) it has made the ADHD so much worse. I've forgotten what I was wrighting like 4 times in this. Anyways. I'm also scared to try it again. cause all my cousin's have had ADHD all there life's and now they all use meth. So I don't want to really risk it cause of addiction issues. But I really really want something to make my mind not constantly be going 10000x a min.

This. All of this. Totally my experience and I cannot put into words for folks what it felt like the first time I took Adderall. I was in the living room with my family when I experienced the "quiet mind" for the first time. I tested things out by sitting down to read something. I could read it from beginning to end and actually understood what I had just read. I didn't jump all over the place with a million thoughts. Truly life-changing. Yeah, there's the "I wish I would have known this years ago" spate of feelings, but I've resigned myself to feeling blessed that I know right now, versus never getting the help that I needed.

Same T-T The ADHD subreddit, hope andsome hyperfixations and knowing it can get better are what keep me able to cope sometimes atm. Sometimes also not, though. Like, it can get "pretty dark" for me.
And sorry you go through this as well atm. One thing that helped me cope great back then, but which I quit years ago, not knowing how much it helped, was cola. Not good due to the amount of sugar and the constant caffeine etc. though and normal caffeine, coffee and GFUEL don't do much for me (anymore). I usually need caffeine with lots of sugar D: Hope we both can get help in the future. And I get it, I really do :'(

As someone who is clinically diagnosed with ADHD, severe anxiety disorder & PTSD, and who has been taking medication (Adderall, Klonopin, Clonidine) for the past 2.5 years i truly appreciate you talking about this ❤
Edit: oh my god! The auditory processing delay!!! FINALLY! someone who would fully understand me when i try my hardest to explain it. So many people have looked at me sideways when i felt compelled to explain myself at times, solely because at those times i could tell (or at least i felt that i could) that certain people that this has happened with would almost take offense. Quietly. But almost as if in their minds they thought i was being rude. Or blatantly ignoring them. I can’t tell you how many times a particular person in my life has said to me “forget it” or “just never mind, forget i said anything” etc because it would frustrate them- and understandably, because this is when i was in denial & refused to get on any medication(s). When it was very evident that i NEEDED it. My dr, my psychiatrist, my family.. everyone tried talking to me. Finally 2.5 years ago when i realized how negatively it was affecting my relationships & my jeopardizing my job- i finally decided to try it. And adderall was the best decision i made in regards to my ADHD. But finally hearing someone else talk about it without me explaining it to them was so validating ❤

The insane decrease in irritability (especially with my, normally noise {ok, also ADHD so maybe above averagely noisy, LOL} young kids). When my son was diagnosed with ADHD the doctor told me that it was like being in a movie theater and over 100 different shows are on the screen and you are trying to watch and deal with each one at the same time. Sadly, as an adult now he refuses to take any medication which affects his daily life and makes him a very angry person.

Did he take meds that he didn't like very much? Sometimes, methylphenidate doesn't go well and amphetamine is better and vice versa. And I was similar to your son when I was younger (I'm 29 now). Hope he is also not doing this because of stigma or smth that happened. I wish something could make him change his mind. Some people can live without meds, but if the right one can be found and works well, it's almost always the way better and safer and healthy option. It makes me really sad to hear how he handles it and I hope he knows he can find better meds and turn life around still. I genuinely dislike hearing stuff like this and it makes me think of how much that person probably suffers unnecessarily :(

So I was diagnosed with ADD when I was 11 years old (I'm 35 now) - but I didn't really have much done in the way of testing. My mom took me to one doctor (after we went to a therapist who said she needed to listen to me more and my mom responded by saying "well that was stupid, we're never going to her again) - and this new doctor spent about a half hour talking to me and decided that I have ADD. So my mom was able to get me prescribed for adderall, and when I started taking it, all I remember is feeling SO weird. Like the best way to describe it was I felt like a shell of myself. Sure I was a little more focused, but I didn't really care about anything, one way or another. It was like I was going through the motions of my day, but on autopilot. It was as though all my emotions were gone, except maybe if I had to pick, I was close to sadness. So I experimented and for several days pretended to take my meds and spit them out after. I was able to focus and remember things if I tried hard enough (won't get into my mom's reaction to this act of "rebellion" as that's a whole other story). But I've come to the conclusion that I do still think I have a mild form of ADD, because I relate to some of the things you talked about, just on a smaller scale. However I struggle to find the answer for this then, because as a mom of a 2yr old and 9mo old, it's become harder to manage my symptoms at times. Can't decide if I should look into supplements, try changing my diet, or perhaps a different medication again. Either way I appreciate you sharing your experience - it helps to know I'm not alone💖

I have all of these symptoms besides the forgetfulness, I can’t study because my brain won’t focus, i’ve been able to study before but it has to be a perfect environment, dead silent, correct temperature, perfectly comfortable position before I can focus steadily.
I’m hopefully getting prescribed Adderall XR the first week of October.
I really hope it gets my life back on track, i’m smart, built my own website, design my own things, but due to the lack of focus i’ve become distracted from my own personal success and it gets put on the back burner, I need it at the forefront, hope Adderall can do that for me.

10:01 - Omg, yes! I had this on a great dopamine day after a great week with a friend from overseas. I was suddenly functional for a week from all the dopamine it got me. During a shopping trip with my brother, which usually takes 2 hours or smth, I noticed when looking at the time on my phone how 5 minutes were suddenly just 30 seconds(!) and we were done with the trip in 10-20 minutes or smth and I didn't get distracted ONCE, iirc. It was so crazy! I wish I could be like that all the time and that also explains why not everybody is rushing to the check out in the shop with only 5 more minutes left till the shop closes. My brother and I always hurry up then and are STILL too slow. We don't even daydream. We just seem extremely slower than others. Also with video games. Others might take 10 hours to finish smth and we usually take double or smth of that :') I just don't get it. But yeah, the last 6 years are like a blur for me. Tbh, all the time since 2016(!) are a blurr for me. It's almost like my brain is stuck in that time also D: Days only feel long for me when I get up at 6 AM and am not playing or doing anything :/

You might also like this "hack" that drinking vitamin C/orange juice will help the meds work less well and decrease it all, so tha'd be smth to help it with quickly also. You should bring up concerns like that with a competent psychiatrist, btw and maybe Vyvanse might be smth for you since it's really subtle for most. Also, you'll usually be started on a really, really low dose and would be able to notice if smht would happen or not.

My ADD is so bad, that I take Vyvanse in the morning, then adderal around 1pm. But the reason I am shocked is, I ran out of my meds….my own fault cause I need to call my dr to refill….. but I procrastinate too much and also feel that it’s not a medication that needs to be weaned off so it’s OK if I miss it for a little while. BUT, watching this has made me realize how much I really DO need my meds. I took the attitude of taking less meds is better, and my last few weeks have been HORRIBLE. I have stopped my meds before, but I guess didn’t really understand wtf was going on in my brain. I could have made this video WORD FOR WORD. I am disappointed in myself for thinking I could be “stronger” than my diagnosis. And disappointed that I’ve literally wasted the last few weeks…..yet again. I guess my brain never REALLY put two and two together and you have truly opened my eyes. I WILL BE taking my medication first thing tomorrow. Ugggh, I’m so mad at myself. But THANK YOU for sharing your story. In a weird way, it’s nice to know there are others out there and I’m not all alone. Thank you! 🙏

That way, if it does send my heart rate into outer space, I'm not out an entire month's worth of money! I feel like I am aware of everything constantly. My cat meowing, the grasshoppers, neighbors moving a couch, listening to this video and the passing cars. Is this considered adhd or what? I been trying to tell my physiatrist something isn’t right and I get a run around 😩

I have been looking into the possibility that I have this. I'm pretty sure that I do, need to be Dx'd.
Has anyone noticed whether their hobbies change in interest level? Since I was a kid I've loved computers and programming and all things DATA. Is this because of possible ADHD, and if I get on meds... is that interest gonna go away?

I have been searching the web to see how a adderall can help, since my anxiety is crazy. Also you are beautiful with amazing skin. My adderall helped me get back yo my skin routine.

I've never been diagnosed adhd but always suspected. I'm currently taking the stimulant phentermine for weight loss and I have never felt as good as I do. My productivity is so much better and my thoughts more clear. Definitely an interesting side effect!

I finally got a diagnosis 10 years ago. I need the stimulus meds or I’m helpless. Right now, Panama doesn’t have any stimulant meds. I have some meds still. But if their isn’t a resupply when I need it, I am tempted to smoke a cigarette. As unhealthy as it is and yadda yadda yadda, I will run mad if I don’t have meds.

This video is making me question my diagnosis a bit lol. I feel like my mind doesn’t get distracted, but focuses on like 5 different things at once with one priority task, and every so often all the focuses get cycled through and I lose the priority task and I’m kinda just lost in something else until it returns back into focus. Kinda like having commercial breaks in real life, but I can’t distinguish between the commercials and the real life until real life turns back on. But idk, it doesn’t feel like I’m on edge so much, more just lost in my thoughts. Makes conversations suck tho unless they get it bc I feel like I have like a 30% chance of actually answering a question if it requires more than three words. But anyways, adderall is calming tho, I feel that, I just am unsure if I am significantly more productive or not. I feel like I don’t feel as impulsive, but is it just placebo or am I actually acting less impulsively? I feel like I just unknowingly give in, but at the same time it’s like I should have the mental fortitude to not act on my impulses? So does a medication change that really? I still haven’t done my laundry tho, and I’ve taken adderall on several occasions over the last week. I know it’s not a magical make me do everything drug, but Idk, maybe I’m just lazy 🤷‍♂️. Obligatory ima post this anyways even tho why would u read this?

Wow! You've put my feelings into words and I can relate 💯. I hope I can focus enough to call my doctor to get checked. I am nervous he won't help me. I hate the medical field.

I noticed my day dreaming in class as a kid. It’s not just casual day dream I’ll just stare to the wall or an item to the point I I can duplicate them with my vision. I’ll l get suck. At first I question myself if I was slow but then when I would get the effort to pay attention I actually get it. I can relate when you point out not being able to finish a project . I also have a habit of cutting people off and then just shifting topic to topic.

    So one help me.
I want to see a doctor that can “scan my brain “ or “diagnose me” to see if I have ADHD.
    I believe I do .
Anyway, what doctor should I go see?
    I’m in California,and I have Medicare.
I also just started working for UCSD so I believe I have the option to get Kaiser.(pretty good benefits from what I hear)
    What doctor do I see?
What tests can prove to me that I have it and they(the dr) can verify I do have it?
    I’m also *Medication Hesitant*.
Can someone tell me why I should take this if I have ADHD?
*PS….I use to abuse medication (Triple C) when I was a kid so I believe that why I am hesitant .
    Please help me with answers!!
Thanks and love to you all!

Adderall made my brain quiet. I compare my brain/inner self to a little rat constantly running around not knowing what to do. Adderall allowed me to have a grasp on all my shit. It calmed down my brain significantly. I was able to do things without feeling like my life was going to end lol. Etc. it has helped me tremendously. Wellbutrin sent me into a fucking episode where I thought I was going to die in my sleep every night I thought I was having heart attacks (I was 15) I thought I had like 8384 sicknesses lol. Hated it. But adderall has helped so much.

Thank you so much for the mention of tachycardia being a result of ADHD-based anxiety for some. I was avoiding ADHD meds for fear of aggravating it, but my tachycardia was bad yesterday anyway (after discovering our new workload), so I'll take my chances with the meds! 😅

Yes the short-term memory loss I power walk I've been doing it ever since I was I think in like like the fifth grade and I won't even have any place to go but I have a constant sense of urgency when I'm somewhere away from home where I can focus so when I'm at work I'm power walking as fast as I am.
As I was writing this comment I forgot what I was going to say spaced out thinking about work and listening to you my thoughts are always a steady stream of consciousness can't focus on one task long enough and it makes me hate myself because I feel so incompetent and inefficient because I can't get things done because there's projects all over the place even when I was a little kid I watch a movie or a TV show change the channel to I broke the buttons off the TV and playing video games for a few minutes stop change the game play a little bit longer stop put another game in
I end up asking dumb and obvious questions because I impulsively blurt out what is on my mind and I often interrupt people finishing their sentences with what I'm anticipating than saying because I'm thinking the end of their conversation faster than they've had the conversation and I get paranoid and overwhelm myself with negative thoughts jumping to conclusions and also asking very stupid questions that make people look at me like I'm crazy because they just mentioned something or it's very common sense but I didn't think about what was obvious
