      Lewis Conroy no its because they had a certain lore specialist write all there lore,then he quit or left or somthing before skyrim,so what they decided was without him it wouldn't ever congruent, thus they went the other way n said since we can never know wtf that one guy was thinking let's run away with our own lore like Tolkien, thus making it feel real and covering up the fact we don't even know wtf we were talking about pre skyrim lol

      The elder scrolls makers use the concept of the unreliable narrator. So everything you hear or read might be wrong. There are just two certain things:
      1. Everything you experience yourself as a player
      2. Everything in the actual scrolls.
      They introduced this concept from the beginning. That's the reason why all cultures have a different story about the dawn era.

      The deliberately conflicting stories to create versimillitude isn't something Bethesda invented; it was H.P. Lovecraft who did his world-building this way, and why his literary Universe is so creepily realistic that it's spawned actual cults and beliefs.

      Praditya Halfelven Well yes he could be telling the truth, but what is his name? Maiq the Liar. There is a video by Mr Rhexx explaining a theory that he could literally be Lorkahj (Lorkahn, Shor) and was cursed by the gods to walk the planes of Nirn for ever (meaning he cannot die, or he if he dies he just reincarnates). Also it would make sense if he was Lorkahn, as he is known as the Trickster God to the elven races, and had lied to the gods to create mundas (which destroyed many et ada). And what is Maiq known for? Lying. (But i feel he doesn't lie to the main protagonist in the games, but giving advice to him/her instead, because if Maiq is the creator of Mundus, why would he want to lie to the person saving his creation?)

    Don't be confused and don't blame the sources. I don't think the story of Lorkhan's heart is so complicated and it seems you're kind of asking the wrong questions. It completely makes sense, if you can reason it as symbolic and viewed as not totally literal. Lorkhan was the catalyst of the creation of Mundus. Lorkhan combine with the Aedra (Akatosh, Dibella, etc..), to create ALL aspects of Mundus. Each Aedra represented/originated ALL that exists within Mundus. Akatosh imparted time, Julianos contributed wisdom and logic, and so on.
    Lorkhan was essentially the "Flesh" of Mundus, contributing the "matter" of Mundus. The Aedra contributed the concepts and constructs. They all combine, sacrificing their sovereignty as gods, to all create the PAINT used for the WORK-OF-ART that was Mundus. The Aedra acting as the COLORS and Lorkhan acting as whatever paint is made out of... MATTER. The difference between Lorkhan and the Aedra is illustrated by what they contribute. Their contributions were influence by the baser concept/god they were derived from (Anu vs. Padomai).
    You can't cut the heart out of "matter" if you exist in the realm of "matter." Both the Aedra and Lorkhan are essentially the "building blocks" of the idea of Mundus. The story isn't meant to be interpreted as completely literal, as we are talking about beings that are at the same time, not beings, just concepts. These concepts converged and could not be separated. So Lorkhan's heart can't be removed anymore than time can be cut out of Mundus, by way of injuring Akatosh. Lorkhan's heart isn't literal in the way you speak of it. His heart acts as a foundation of Mundus, just like every piece of ALL gods involved in the creation of Mundus.

    Very nice video, Im a lorefreak myself but I have some stuff to say about this. Note that this is my representation of the lore:
    1. A lot of the "pre-history" is confirmed by the Elder Scrolls themselves, not just myths, legends and holy books.
    2. Not chaotic nothingness, just nothingness. Padomay is chaos.
    3. I wouldn't say Sithis represented nothingness, since that already existed, just the void, space between particles and objects
    4. Anui-El and Sithis didn't create Aurbis. Aurbirs is overlap of forces of Anu and Padomay.
    5. Auri-El and Akatosh are two separate beings. They both and Alduin are shards of Aka that was created by Anui-El not Auri-El.
    6. Lorkhan didn’t tell them that they will populate it with their own creation. It was supposed to be their home.
    7. Ever since Lorkhan actually tricked them until his "death" was called the Convention. Meeting at the Tower was called "The moment of the Convention".
    8. Lorkhan isn't Nirn, but he was bound to it like the Earthbones.
    9. Yes Messer and Secunda are Lorkhan’s body.
    10. Not just the divines fled Nirn, but all the Aedra that could. Those who couldn't became the Ehlnofey.
    11.The Ehlnofey aren't ancestors of just men and mer, but also animals and plants.

    • @lone_wolf4681

      About AKA; Aka is just the translation of "dragon" in ehlnofey. Akatosh is Auriel. And Alduin itself stated that he was the firstborn of Akatosh, they could never be "brothers" or the same person. In my opinion Akatosh is Auriel, but with a different name, a name made up by Alessian to make the one pantheon.

    I find it really fascinating how the sky itself in the Elder Scrolls is a testimony to the creation of its world, much like our sky on Earth. Except is completely different in nature; our sky and the space beyond it is made of a hard vacuum filled with low density particles that sometimes "coagulate" into things like stars or planets, which we also see in our sky as twinkling lights. But for Nirn, this is completely different, as the video explains, since stars and the sun are just tears through Oblivion that peer right into Aetherius.

      I'm the kind of person that's really into the lore of whatever I'm reading or game I'm playing and I'm not exactly new to ES lore but recently while I've been thinking deeply about it it's been tripping me out how the very nature of ES reality is different from ours to that point you mentioned and the fact that existence is a kind of prank or trick among gods. The world of mundus isn't just a medieval fantasy it's a truly alien existence. The things you mentioned that makes this universe strange makes it equally strange that there are even similarities between our real world and the ES world from little things like jugs, buckets, people, dogs to things like cities and societies. Which of course they exist in both and would be comparable but still. If I was transported to Temriel I would truly feel like an alien. And I wouldn't get this feeling in Zelda or Lord of the Rings

  • @Palafico3

    Nirn was highly magical at the time, was visited by Gods whose very presence bends reality, and was in a state of Dragon Break (which results from Aka's mind shattering and multiple timelines branching), so things could have happened and things could have existed but not fully and not the same by everyone's perspective, thus all the different versions of Aedra and the creation story. Convention happened at the "very end" of the Dawn Era, and was the moment when the Aedra decided how best to handle this project with the realized consequences and the absence of Magnus, and yes, by some accounts to judge "Lorkhan's" (The Space God's) guilt. Nirn was still "present" at the time of the Convention, but not in a raw, physical sense, as the Gods were still bound. Think of it like everyone is slowly melting down into a single blueprint of a sphere, you still have control over what's left of you, but everything else is sort of becoming its own thing. It was not Lorkhan's "body", as Nirn is made from the bodies of all other Aedra, while Lorkhan's sundered body is said to have become the moons. What is Lorkhan's is the heart which held his spirit, which was satisfied by Nirn because it was sick of the monotony of before, wanting a world of flux, made from many spirits and not just one. So basically, Convention had it that Lorkhan's spirit was bound to Nirn, and the Aedra would define themselves into Nirn to join it, some fully to become the Ehlnofey, while others still retained a good chunk of their original spheres and could separate now that Lorkhan's heart was anchoring everything, becoming the Aedra ("The Eight"). I hope this cleared some stuff up for you, feel free to ask for clarification.

    I've spent 2 days geeking out, reading the lore about the creation on wiki pages. It was helpful to see what I understood in my mind represented visually (thus clearing up remaining confusion about the various entities involved). It also validated my completed confusion caused by the whole bit about the heart and I am now able to rest knowing that it is either beyond the mortal realm's capability to understand, or maybe the historians just got the facts mixed up and confused everyone (just like the Bible!). To elaborate on some things. Listed below is a short bit on what everything actually is and the formation of Elder scroll creation mythos:
    Godhead is the top of the hierarchy with Anu, the force of stasis, and Padomay, the force of change being the two under. When the godhead awakens, all creation ceases which is known as the "kappa" (spelling?). To maintain this all beings (ideas, gods Aedra, Deadra, whatever you call them) they all had to "Amaranth", which was ascend to Godhead level by acknowledging they did not "existed", but refusing by force of will to still exist. All these beings were so exhausted of having to do this that Lorkhan convinced them to create Mundas which was using prior incarnations of creation to make one thing that lasted "forever" so Amaranth was not needed.
    Lorkham was created by sithis to restore chaos, but due to his mixed nature (he was aedra and deadra) actually betrayed Sithis by creating the ultimate chaos, stability. Now with Mundas, having to ascend no longer had to be a thing
    From Anu and Padomay the Dedra and Aedra formed (from fighting one another or possibly "mating" depends on the culture). All Aedra were created from Panomays and Anu's blood mixing and all deadra were strictly from Padomays blood (somthing important to note is the only truly "pure" Anu derived being is Akatosh). The "physical" appearance of Deadra and Aedra are actually just a part of them since they are large concepts or "ideas" and the plane(t)s are actually the Aedra and Deadra full manifestation. The avatars of these beings embodied just a fraction of the Aedra or Deadra and could exist anywhere separate so the heart could have been "ripped" out.
    Few things you seemed confused on were Lorkhan physical plane(t) of existence was the two moons. At the meetings of all the Aedra they ripped Lorkhan heart out (splitting the plane (t)) in two and the heart fell to Mundas. Where it struck the ground (or where Akatosh "shot" it from his bow). The location of the plane(t)s in correlation to Mundas central is how much divinity they retained. The more of the divinity the Aedra had the the further they were from Mundas central. If the Aedra had returned to Mundas Central, their plane(t) would become part of Mundas Central. Some theory states that each interaction with Mundas Central actually takes more of the power of the Aedra each time which is part of the reason they do not interact.
    Fun fact: a lot of theory states that the Dweomer actually "Amaranth" which allows them to become part of the ultimate godhead or to cease to exist fully at all. Ultimately if this is done correctly, the Dweomer could create their own reality or if done incorrectly, may have just stopped existing. If the Dweomer still "exist" they could create their own reality from using the Godhead (which is above Anu and Padomay).

    Regarding Lorkhan, the way I see it:
    He also gave up a part of himself to create Mundus and Nirn, and specifically gave up a large part of himself to create Nirn. He possibly still retained some kind of form, enough to attend the Convention. However, since most of his power was given up to create most of Nirn, killing Lorkhan and destroying his heart would destroy Nirn.

    You have Auri-el wrong here. Auri-el is a shard of the original soul that governs time. the original soul of time was called AKA, and all dragons and Auri-el, Akatosh and yes, alduin, are shards of AKA. the three, Auriel, Akatosh and Alduin are just the most notable is because they're bound directly to the cycles of the Kalpa, but the gist is that AKA was shattered into uncountable pieces and the three shards govern these following concepts; Auri-el the beginning of time, Akatosh the body of time and Alduin the end of time, and when the end comes a cosmic reset button is pressed and the cycle begins anew.
    also the two last events are out of order, the gods didn't ascend until after the Ehlnofey began to diverge into the sentient races of man and mer, the Old Ehlnofey which are the precursors of High elves coexisted with the original spirits which created nirn, and once the Altmer have come into being Auri-el Ascended before them and showed them that there was a path back to divinity they themselves could follow, this is the very basis of Altmer culture in searching and striving for perfection in all things as they became to believe because of this event that perfection is the path to divinity.

      +John Blood While you're right, I think he didn't want to go into the metaphysics of AKA considering how much of a schizoid god he is, and whether or not he is infact a lesser part of Lorkhan, what with the mantling, shezzies, dragons, etc. is a highly debated subject which would've basically made him digress in the points of his vid. Its a good vid, and its better to gloss over some of those parts than confuse a general audience with the minute details of that particular subject, considering how speculative the properties of Lorkhan can get eg his blood splattering all over the continent of Nirn after his heart was ripped out, thus forming Ebony deposits and why Vvardenfell is richest in these deposits.

    • @sleepinhaystacks
      @sleepinhaystacks 8 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      John Blood Eh, I don't expect much from Shoddycast at all. They are ok at glossing over stuff given how much they pump into production, but vids like these that are a bit more indepth to the obscure parts of lore imo are a nice starting point for people to investigate things on their own. It is better to point out flaws in a vid like this, this we can agree on, but for the sake of trying to understand it from the perspective of the fellow who made this, explaining the properties of AKA and the like is pretty difficult to express in laymen terms without sounding like Michael 'The Drug Coffin King' Kirkbride.

      @Y-all-mofos-need-Talos 8 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      +Seedy Vagrant What you call "obscure parts of lore" i prefer to call "Michael Kirkbride Fanfictions". In The Elder Scrolls, the origin of the universe is one elven THEORY, MK writings about Towers, CHIM, C0DA are not THEORY, just FANFICTIONS, nothing more than that, maybe speculation.

    • @159tony
      @159tony 8 ปีที่แล้ว +16

      Y all mofos need Talos actually what's been writen about the towers and CHIM is completely canon since his explanations of those are in the games. MK, currently likes to write TES fanfiction, not apparently wanting morrowind to be over.

    I understand that Shor is basically the nords representation of Lorkhan but Lorkhan had his heart ripped out and it became red mountain. According to Ysgramor, Shor asked the spirits of Sovngarde to lay down their weapons and not to fight Alduin in Sovngarde. How could Shor/Lorkhan tell them this if his heart was destroyed by the Nerevarine and his body became Masser and Secunda and Nirn.

    Ok, I thought of 2 things while watching this:
    1. What if Lorkhan was lying about his heart, just so he could continue to exist?
    2. What were the Deadra, when were they created, and where do they come into play? Were they at The Convention along with the Aedra? What did the Deadra do? All I know about them is that they did not help in the creation of Mundus/Nirn.

    • @someonewhoreallycares5892
      @someonewhoreallycares5892 8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I think he just forgot to mention what you say. They are all et'Ada, between them, there are no Aedra or Daedra, these are just mer definition for those who helped in the creation of Mundus (our ancestor) and those who don't (not our ancestors), but the differences between what is Oblivion (realm) and Aetherium and why the Daedra stay in Oblivion are good questions, i think no one have the answer, just theories or out of games sources (not canon). I think all of your answers are in Akatosh, as you saw in Oblivion he easily banished Mehrunes Dagon to Oblivion, and "he" is the chief of the et'Ada, so... the guy is fucking powerfull.

    • @collan5274
      @collan5274 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      guy above is pretty accurate. all of the divine beings were collectively originally known as the et'Ada. The et'Ada who didnt help create Mundus are Daedra, the ones who did and escaped creating the sun and stars are Magna Ge. The ones who stayed are the Aedra.

    • @bugsmoney1264
      @bugsmoney1264 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      *Colton Lanford* That was best and most straightforward explanation of it. I see a lot of people confusing the Daedra and the Magna Ge in here, saying that the Daedra are the ones that fled early and that's why they are more powerful than the Aedra, which is close, but not right. The Daedra never helped.

    Love your lore videos. Can't believe I'm only finding them now. Morrowind is also my favourite, although I played Oblivion first and it was my first game entering the ES world. My mum, sisters and I became huge fans of the game. I feel so lucky that I get to share this love for TES with my family. My mum has always loved magic, the LOTR books for example, and shared that love of magic with me growing up. Now we get to also share the magic of TES world. She bought Morrowind (for PC) in a charity shop for £1 and later I bought the game of the year edition. Of course when Skyrim came out, we got it too but Morrowind will always be my absolute favourite. I prefer the experience of actually having to locate places using clues and sign posts rather than the arrow in Oblivion and Skyrim. It feels more, well, real I guess. I loved reading the lore but often found it a bit overwhelming. Amazing, but a lot of info to take in. I found myself opening tab after tab to look something up when reading a particular piece. I really appreciate the videos and you've presented them wonderfully. I'll have to show them to my mum too. The music is a lovely touch also. Just hearing the ES music conjures up feelings of magic. Much thanks from Scotland!

    It is really interesting to note some similarities between the Warcraft and Elder Scrolls cosmology concepts here. Azeroth soul was also found alligned with an evil presence by a divine being (more specifically the titan Sargeras, before he became alligned with chaos, found the world soul of Azeroth consumed by the Old Golds, which are a manifestation of the void in the physical universe). But likewise what we see with the idea of "Nirn couldn't be destroyed, even though it's essence was chaotic"; Azeroth evil corruption could not be purged without destroying it, so the titans decided to lock the evil golds within prisions around the world (Uldum, Ulduar, etc). Of course there are many differences too that separate the cosmology in these universes, but it is cool to see some ideas in common.

    I'd like to point out the most consistent theory is that lorkahn was judged at the adamantine tower as well as another god (I forget which one but that one was pardoned) then they cracked lorkahn open and his heart fell into the sea, when this happened it stabilized nirn, remember nirn was a failed project and was turbulent and unlivable,it was going to take to much of them selfs so they said fuck u lorkahn n cracked him open n used his heart to stabilize mundus,the left over pieces became the two moons, remember when the gods appear in nirn in their whole they are planets,not people, I think this is where ppl get mixed up. the gods were all celestial bodys. that's why lorkahn corpse looks like two moons, the dweamer knew this n drew up that representation you showed a few times of planets circling nirn

    • @UnknownSquid
      @UnknownSquid 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      So, I guess going on that theory, we're suggesting that Nirn needed a portion of something descended from Padomay (Change+Chaos), in order to become whole, and ironically stabilise itself. Perhaps just highly speculative stuff, but I quite like the concept of it. After all, any realm constructed purely out of the essences of only one half of existence, was surely doomed to fail.

    Over a year late, probably already heard this but, from memory, under certain conditions, all possibilities can occur at once, so at The Convention it may have been one of those times in which Lorkhan's body didn't become Nirn and they took his body from his heart, while also being that his body was Nirn, allowing for it the be done at the Tower, while also they split his body in two, becoming the moons. This is a theory that provides an explanation to the timeline and for the discrepancies.

    Great job Decadence Knight! After Many years of playing I finally decided TODAY to try and figure this all out and through a couple of hours of online research and countless books read on my main character, this is exactly the conclusion i came to as well. Even the part where Morrowind is the best out of the newer games. I will note a question i have yet to figure out in that the distinction between the et'Ada being called the Aedra and Daedra is just a name given to them by the mer in regards to who helped in their creation and who didn't. OR is it in regards to some being affiliated with Anu and Padomey or order and chaos. I belief the former rather than the latter but id love to hear what you think. Again great job man and thank you for putting time into this and doing it well.

  • @elfsings
    @elfsings 8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    This video was really great. I have few question regarding Lorkhan though. According to Vivec he strived for achieving CHIM, but failed intentionally in order for mortals to learn how not to fail it. This failure of his resulted in Zero-Sum, which is supposed to erase one from the timeline. Now here come my questions...How could it happen ? Or rather when ? If these questions even make sense when talking about someone erased from the timeline. But if it did happen then how come we know of Lorkhan ? and how did his heart remain in the timeline ?

    • @projectpems8304
      @projectpems8304 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Maybe he knew what CHIM was, but stopped early on, thereby failing by not going through with it?

    • @RobotPizzaMan
      @RobotPizzaMan 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You are right in that Lorkhan deliberately sabotaged his attempt at CHIM, but its more so that immortal beings such as himself are incapable of higher existences. But it's a lot more complicated then that.
      Lorkhan was tired of how the Aurbis demonstrated no change beyond it's primordial form, which was stabilized by Anui-El, so he sought a means for beings to traverse into the God-Head in order to rejoice in the same undefined resplendence found before the melding of Anu and Padomay. This was done through the creation of Nirn, and was a means for Lorkhan to understand his Psijic Endeavor, and attempt CHIM.
      Zero-Sum does not erase you from the timeline, it erases you from the God-Head. Zero-Sum is the failure of keeping ones self grounded while viewing the Aurbis (specifically the Tower) through the God-Head. I believe Lorkhan's heart was removed before he Zero-Summed, but he also didn't Zero-Sum. As I said earlier, he could not achieve CHIM, therefore he technically could not Zero-Sum. Instead his consciousness transferred to an entity known as the Void Ghost in order to aid those in achieving CHIM.
      Lorkhan acted as the Earthbones did, and binded his body to Nirn, and thus his heart. It is the heart of the world, and cannot be destroyed. It is the anchor to which the Aurbis is subjected to change.

    It wasn't mentioned in the video but while the Aedra totally gave up all of their power, and the Magna Ge (with Magnus) gave up only some of their power, the Daedra straight up refused to take part in the creation of Mundus, and kept ALL of their power. Which is why they can directly interact with Nirn and the mortals that inhabit it.

    these are really well produced and easy to understand. i suggest you ride the akyrim remastered hype, and do a bunch of skyrim lore. Then revisit past lore once you've got more subscribers.

    Could Lorkhan not have become one with Nirn when he died?

    tiber septim, talos, shor, ysgramir, and the last dragonborn are believed to be "reincarnations" of a sort of lorkhan. so he doesnt truly die, as his power and soul, i guess, just transfer into mortals periodically.

      NO the last dragon born is from akatosh /auriel..because when akatosh bleed 3 little tiny blood of him created Alduin the and the last blood created all the dov (dovahkiin,blood dragons,elder dragons,ancient dragons,frost dragons,legendary dragons,dragons) and the dovahkiin have the soul of a dragon and Dovahsos (dragon blood) which mean that the dragonborn is basically a dragon..

      Mohamed Elshenawy and since the Dragonborn is the only one capable of permanently killing a dragon wouldn’t that put them higher up the list stronger or equal to a legendary dragon?

      Dude Tiber Septim and Talos is the same person and Tiber Septim is the same as the last dragonborn because both of them is a dragonborn right? (Pls don't hate me)
      Also, I think Shor is the same person as akatosh? (I think)

      @@gabrielleduabe6065 Yep, Talos changed his name to Tiber Septim to legitimize his lineage, and both him and LDB were dragonborns but they aren't on the same level. Shor is the same person as Lorkhan, and so is Shezar. Shezar is the imperial version, while Shor is the nordic version.
