Sri Lankan beauty pageant winner Pushpika De Silva has re-emerged the victor after having her crown snatched off her head during the April 4 gala. Her predecessor, 2019 winner Caroline Jurie, falsely claimed that De Silva was a divorcee and therefore ineligible to take part.

The winner most likely won thanks to the family who ignored rules of the contest. Caroline Jurie, Mrs. World, was standing against that family.

For this reason, local judges have asked contesters who filed for divorce to come forward. She has ignored them because she has been backed by the organizer, a friend of her, and politicians.

What shocked me the most is the way the runner up is behaving, she stands accepting the crown that was snatched away from someone else and on top of that she's crying tears of joy and hugging that evil woman. Really shows her true character too.

I'm sure it would be unrealistic for Mrs. 1st runner up to NOT to be happy that she won by default, but as the new reigning title holder, she should have seen the woman in pain, told "the ripper" to stop, and humbly accepted the title without a crown. That would have been a stronger move than standing there crying crocodile tears.

The woman who snatched the crown has been arrested after de Silva lodged a police complaint for Physically hurting but and damaging her crown in the process. And de Silva retained her crown after the organisers confirmed that allegations against her was false.

Just fyi: the runner up who got the crown, is actually a minister's wife, who is very close with the current president's son. Chula (who is the woman in the black saree, fist punching the air like a baffoon) is close friend's with both the minister and President's son. Chula is ALSO one of the organisers. So you're telling me that she didnt know if the winner was divorced or not? 🙄 she thought her friend would win, she didnt, so thought she could use the winner's (pumika) separation as an excuse to take the crown away and give it to her friend. Both her and Caroline are the only ppl going at Pumika like this. Which makes you wonder if Chula set Caroline off to do her bidding...
I’m a Sri Lankan (even if I can’t say every single word) and seeing this is very sad and makes me disappointed. The women was crying with tears as she talks, what a strong single mother. I hate how the girls there who ripped the crown off and gave it to a other person with no hesitation makes me frustrated. They act like hero’s and never even gave an apology.

This is a competition for only married women so as the (at the time) reigning Mrs Sri Lanka Jurie had the right to take the crown back from a suspected divorcee. She should've done so in a less embarrassing way though but some people take these things very seriously.

So why would the pageant organizers did not stop Jurie? I mean they have to verify things before it gets out of hand. First they let her have the mic. Second they have a lot of times to stop her from getting the crown off her head.

I was at the venue. Carolina took the mic from the MC. The organizers did come on stage once the runner up (who was crowned winner) finished her thank you speech, and ushered everyone off stage. I agree that the organizers should have acted faster. My guess is that it took them time to process what was happening. They probably never expected Carolina to act the way she did.
Rules are rules, but let's be real here what makes a person a mother, a marriage certificate? No. It's by being a responsible and caring parent, prioritizing your child over anyone.

It was so disgusting and petty what Caroline did and hopefully it will now be a very expensive action. I’m glad Pushpika continues to show her strength as a single mother and as a woman who won’t be pushed around. Forgiving someone doesn’t mean forgetting their actions or that they shouldn’t suffer consequences for their actions. Caroline needs to be held accountable otherwise she’ll do it again on some level.

A beauty contest for only married women? What.
Mrs world is an international pageant and yes for married women like miss world is for unmarried women. The contestant chosen from this pageant will represent the country at the international pageant which has the same rules.

There’s also a Mrs International and there use to be a Mother-Daughter USA in which mother & daughter compete side-by-side. There’s even a pageant exclusive to plus-size people.

That was pure harassment.
It's not my culture so I can't say anything but... I believe the way it was handled was beyond unprofessional.. and I mean if you're going to do these kinds of things do your research then? Make sure the women are for sure married or not "separated" since that apparently disqualifies them. This breaks my heart for her and her son.

If they thought that when they raised their hand after giving the crown to the first runner up was something magical, well it isn't. A woman must not step at another woman in order to lift herself. Such a shame this happened, not a mark of a true beauty queen. Much respect to the woman who lost her crown, she still forgives everyone involve. Keep your head up high, you have a much better crown which all brave mothers wear.
That action really didn't show anyone that you're a queen but rather a mean brat :)
Even if she actually was divorced and not fit for the title. Forcefully snatching her crown like than on stage, and humiliating her was so unprofessional. And that women was the previous winner? The heck.
