I thought that was what subsonic meant at first too, but if you think about it. Subsonic means the waves are slower than sonic speed (i.e. the speed of sound). That's that case for supersonic which is the opposite.
Atrus probably miswrote in his journal, or maybe scientific terminology hadn't yet settled on which of "infrasonic" and "subsonic" referred to wavelengths and which referred to the speed of a moving object, since I don't believe they had much need to describe objects that moved faster than sound at the time.
@Rock4Switz7 Sound is just pressure waves. However, these waves (and all waves) can be measured by their amplitude, frequency, and phase just like radiation can. The mechanism of the wave is different, but the mathematical characteristics are the same
@Hiraghm Every so often I see a critical comment that leaves me wondering what precisely is being criticized. Do you consider Myst IV anti-capitalist propaganda? Is every story with a greedy villain anti-capitalist? Many are, I'm sure, but a villain can't be greedy? Anyway, I'm fairly sure Myst I & III also had Sirrus and Achenar being greedy plunderers, so I'm not sure why you singled out this one.
I know this is old, but Releeshahn, as the concept, is actually very important to the existence of Atrus, as well as his father, Gehn, if he were free from the Prison Book that the player used to capture him in Riven. In short, in the lore of the game novels, the city of D'ni was struck by an attack by an extremist, believing they had lost their way and didn't deserve to continue living. They used a gaseous plague to infect the entire population, or at least that's what the plan was. The entire cavern was deserted within a short time. Later comes the events of Myst: Book of Atrus, where Atrus' father, Gehn, is attempting to rebuild the D'ni through other worlds. Then the story transitions into Myst, then Riven, which the Book of Atrus ties heavily into. In-between Riven and Myst III comes the novel Myst: The Book of D'ni. Here, Atrus begins his search for D'ni survivors by enlisting help from other ages. He's successful, but in his search, comes upon an age with a civilization that shot off from the D'ni. He discovers there's more than meets the eye, and that the civilization has become corrupt, and almost collapses just like D'ni did. It's here that Atrus and the rest of the survivors decide that it is time to leave the past behind, and start fresh from scratch. Atrus writes a link to a new age, Releeshahn, where the D'ni can begin anew, and continue. It's basically the knowledge that he has helped save his people that makes it important to him.
I’ve played this game, but I haven’t played and replayed and replayed it, like the first three, so I’m really enjoying your informed commentary!

Atrus: The peeping Tom of the multiverse.
No, sound is pressure waves travelling through a gas or liquid (e.g. air).

Thank you very much! I always feel like it`s the "right way" to go.
From my own personal view, certainly!
Keep up your good work!
I love how Atrus mentions New Mexico and "unexpected warmth" in the same sentence. lol
"Subsonic interference"? Perhaps he meant "infrasonic"?
You do realize I've played this game before, right? :P
I don't know why I said "but" there, I'm agreeing with you! : P
Sorry, I'm going to Spire first.

i've tried entering the crystal combination for riven, it doesn't work.
i think the acting for catherine is bad in this one.
Relishan was so stupid the game was fun and all but what was the point what was the point of saving it if we cant even explore

Care to explain this political correctness of the rands? I hate political correctness, but am yet to see any of it in the MYST series.
