I can read D'ni. The names on the books left to right, top to bottom are (and re-spelled into more conventional English): Saris, Richard, Sirrus, Avius, Achnair (Ak-Nah-ir), Catherine, George, Achenar, Chuck, Rand, Robyn, Atrus, Kailun (Kah-ih-lun), Yeesha, RAWA, Chris
We've heard that explanation before in Gehn's 233rd Age. It's possible that Catherine may have written the top-heavy formations on Serenia with similar terms to those in Gehn's book.
I love how Yeesha goes snorkeling/swimming just a short distance from a gigantic waterfall. Probably has something to do with her being a child of water... There is a list somewhere of all the seemingly superfluous actions you can do in the game (like letting Yeesha's beetles free) that will influence which spirit guide you get (except that it's always Peter Gabriel).
The necklace picks up strong memories whenever you take it to a certain place, even if it hadn't been there when the event had occured. As for Yeesha's journal, she got to meet her brothers before she was given the necklace.
5:40 The choir sounds nice at first, but five minutes into navigating that maze of walkways and irrigation channels, I had to either mute the soundtrack or break the computer. Ten years later, I still feel disappointed that the game culminated in that over-the-top age after Haven and Spire set up a much nicer atmosphere. Comparing it to other ethereal-looking places like Amateria and Narayan, at least there the soundtrack wasn't chanting at you non-stop.
And on the topic of the lock - it's puzzling for the sake of puzzling! No-one learned anything from the awesomeness of Riven! You expect the game to have puzzles so they put them in! *pulls hair in rage*
I don't know yet, I haven't gotten that far into the recording yet. I've been air once, but usually I'm water too (I was during the practice run before recording). But I won't stay in Serenia long this time, I'll just do a few small things then head to Haven first.
This. Is my most favorite Age in the entire franchise. And I literally don't understand why people hate it so much. I played this game! I was here for MONTHS! Although I was in Haven for waaaaay longer.
...You know, I kind of wish that there had been a plot twist. Sirrus and Achenar both reformed, working together to save Yeesha. So then, who is the captor? What if somebody, much like Saavedro, broke into Tomahna and accidentally set Gehn free? Dun dun dunnnnnn. Side note: I don't like Sirenia, as I don't think it's done well, but concepts like "dreaming of the future" are very much Myst canon. Remember, Catherine dreamed of meeting Atrus before she first saw him irl.
I've always been a child of wind everytime I play, even though I keep trying to get fire or water. I want to hear what the guardians have to say about them!
I FAILED THIS PUZZLE SO BADLY!!! I used the book that Yeesha is using to learn D'ni and tried to spell the names. I couldn't spell all of them correctly, but i had a few name that were close enough that i could figure out who was who. I knew Atrus was oldest, and Catherine younger than him. As for Sirrus and Achenar I had to guess, and I knew Yeesha was the youngest. It took me 4 hours to get it right! I never saw the family tree.
Im not used to being able to freely leave an age and because of that I really messed up during my playthrough jumping back and forth between the 3 not knowing what to do, I much prefer the puzzle of finding your way out of an age
I like the Warsaw Village Band (Cóżeś Ty Kasiu is SO GOOD!), but the music in this game just doesn't really do it for me like the music in Riven and Uru did. Especially the song when you link into Serenia. It drove me insane after a few hours of passing by that spot... ~Seeeereeeeeeeniiiiiaaaaaaaaaaaaaa~
Serenia gives me Pandora from Avatar vibes, except it's not all blue and green neon hues. Even the way the villagers in the age speak gives me Pandora vibes. It just doesn't really fit. Why is it the middle child almost always has to hate the older or younger sibling? Why can't we be wholesome and have Sirrus and Achanar both reformed and Atrus can finally rest in peace that his sons are finally free and they can be a family again? Why do we need a villian in the family that's not Gehn? (even though around this time I think gehn has long since passed by the time of this game)
Everything does not have to be logical according to your pretty personal logic. Maybe people can have dreams of the future. Either way in this game they can. Besides maybe A got lost, it was a maze like you said yourself or maybe he just had a look around.
8:19 Does anybody else find Anya's knowledge of when the player enters "Dream" (part of how she introduces herself to you) a little...weird. When I first encountered her and heard what she said, I was like "Wait...what?"
Haha! :-) It`s not Peter Gabriel himself or his music (Which isn`t my favourite music at all, but I don`t dislike it THAT much) It`s Peter Gabriel IN A MYST GAME! I agree with copycat - it doesn`t fit at all!

No mention of Gehn?
Serenia is the toughest age in any Myst game I've played (I haven't done Uru). Something about the New-Agey music just drove me insane eventually.

Yes, this place is truly a-maze-ing..

i love the music to this age

@TheSoldiersMind Yes, you later need to find one of the spirits and the protectors tell you which one based on your actions in the game.

Oh no, Myrni, the progressive rock is going to get you! :P
fire is very hard though
Is it just me or does this woman look a little like Bjork?
YES INDEED SHE LOOKS LIKE BJORK HAHAHAHAHAHA
Try doing a run and getting there as fast as possible, and you'll probably get fire
Oh, yeah! Serenia is much too.....fluffy.
And I`m very afraid of Peter Gabriel! *shivers*
That´s definitely the worst part of the game, imo!
Why Serenia first? You proceeded "logically" in Uru as well...
Ugh...
Serenia.
MOST HATED AGE!!!!
MAGIC IS A MYST NONO!
