Your video in 9:13s teached me more than a course I'm current on, and just on that thing on precomps and artworks! I mean, this is awesome! Thank you very, very much!
Well, months ago I said I don't study animation. That was until I got my internship and future boss said "work on AE for the summer". AIGHT, LET'S DO THIS (leerooooy...) So cool you did this video!
Thank you RobynO, I was losing hope that I could not handle it. After many such videos, that is....Yours is exceptional and I started to panic less. After your video, I had the confidence to begin and thanks to yet another video, bulding contextually upon yours, I could get my daughter's birthday slide ready.
This is great, and I'd love to show this to my middle schoolers as way to introduce AE and motion graphics in an introductory multi-media course, except that I can't because of language restrictions. I'm no prude, and mild cursing is definitely not offensive to me personally, but it's not my call when it comes to school. So, I'm going to absorb as much as I can from you about how to demo AE in an easily understood manner and use that knowledge to present it to my students. You're awesome!
Totally understandable ! Glad you liked the video and think it would have value for your students , maybe some of them will come across it other own time or when they’re a little older . Thanks for the comment !
This is a great and easy to understand video, I hope you release a full blown course sooner or later. You're a great teacher and your humor is an added bonus !! 😂😂
Thanks Robyn for doing a great job covering most common techniques in your After Effects tutorial!! Plus, you having a calming voice and you don't speak too fast like some tutorials I've recently viewed. Thank you very much!!
I had to stop your video and roll a spliff at 15:13 because my heart was beating to fast! Thank you Algorithm and thank you! You answered everything and so much more in a very super cool techy way! Women like you are my heroes, subscriber for life! One Love
@@RobynO_O Hi! I set out to learn the ADOBE suite finally this year, which led me to 2D character animation, which led me to the 12 principles. I have learned a LOT, but I cannot find those silly arcs thing-a-ma-gigs to create a curve. Any videos to suggest? Is there another way to create a curve. I have jumped from hobbyist to creating a Jamaican/Canaidain series and while I plan to learn things over time, I need to throw a mango now! Can you help? I need voices and I can't really start a production if I am missing one of the biggest steps.
Funny how I've come across your video about AE experience on motion graphics-related job positions, after I've exaggerated my experience there. 😊😂😂 Checked out ur channel, really useful on point content on starting off in the industry & how to learn and grow. I just have a few questions, what setup would you recommend for AE in a home office environment? I have seen that you're using a double monitor setup on a Windows machine, but was wondering if the new M1 iMacs with ramped up RAM would be suitable for handling AE for basic motion graphics and animation, and even some light C4D effects? If not, what other Windows workstation would you recommend for handling AE well for motion graphics?
Hey, I have a Mac mini M1, 2020, with 16 GB RAM with two Acer monitors and it's working fine for learning basic stuff, not sure about very complex compositions yet but so far so good, I do use it more intensely with Premier and it performs really well, sometimes I have Lightroom, Photoshop and Premier working at the same time and it has never lagged or failed. Provided you give them enough scratch disk space.
Very glad to see I'm not the only one making sound effects that match the movement of the thing I am animating hahaha xD. It helps to feel out the movement haha. I was very surprised not seeing DUIK in your window dropdown, do you mainly animate Rubberhose style characters? Also, do you use the Overlord plugin at all? Overlord changed my life, saves soooo much time :D.
Ha ha I don't know how anyone can resist making the sound effects ! My DUIK is run from where I run other scripts in File >> Scripts. I use both DUIK and Rubber hose. I LOVE Overlord! It has saved me countless hours!
You did a good job explaining every thing, even if its a bit quick. Every time I have to use After Effects I remember why I hate what editing has become. Yeah. I'm an old guy. I made my bones when editors were editors, graphic artists were graphic artists, and motion graphics were done by DVE. It's just SO MUCH is asked of you now and guess what? I make ten grand a year less now than I did when I had to have so much less knowledge and fewer specialized deep skill sets. It's a computer geeks world. I just try to live in it. But I sure don't like it. Your content was helpful though. Thanks!
I feel the same way sometimes even though I haven't been in the industry as long as you might have. I feel like we're expected to be able to do a bit of everything, but it would be great to focus and specialise and become a true expert at one thing rather than having to master so many different things.
It's so refreshing to read this comment and the reply. I think it's a very interesting subject too. I consider myself a storytelling video editor but have had to learn motion graphics from scratch, which sometimes is great but takes so long to master.. This is a great video, thank you.
At least we’re not alone in this situation !😅 it’s tough but at the very least I can’t say that it’s easy to get bored in this career since I’m always learning something new !
there's a little icon at the bottom of the composition window. It looks a bit like a square with the corner cut off. It's next to the checkered box. If you hover over it, it says "Toggle mask and shape path visibility". Turn that on and you'll see the path
you can use the convert vertex tool. It's in the top menu bar, if you click on the little arrow for the pen tool, there's a drop down and you'll see the convert vertex tool. Use that to then click on the keyframe in your composition panel, and a little handle will appear
that intro makes me feel pretty called out.. and if you are my boss reading this.. I mean... my brother feels called out.. of course i know after effects ;)
Just found out that Instagram exists and that I have an account there (for some reason). So I started following couple of motion graphics geniuses (and you). So, any suggestions on what motion graphics artists to follow. 500 names or more answer is acceptable.
Oh cool, congrats for discovering IG exists. I'm sure you'll find many great people to follow. I follow Ben Marriott obviously, motion graphics collective, catsuka, motiongraphics_p, Rocketpanda studio, and a few others I can't remember
Sorry to bother you again, but do you have any luck of finding me an animation studio in Colorado I can apply to. One of my suggestions is Gaia located in Louisville. If you have a job opening, can you send me the link, please?

2:29 You get a nice surface there, but I only get one big black screen. I change percentage to 25% but it is still one giant black square.
