    And this is why I use the speer gold dot 62g bonded soft point. It's a great hunting and self defense round for the AR platform.
    No good against level IV body armor but most things that go bump in the night aren't wearing it anyway. And they are still going to feel the impact which could give you more time for that follow up shot to a unprotected area like head, neck or groin area.

    I admit my mistakes and I will.say I had a negligent discharge in my house with a 357. The round was and is still visible in the 6×8 timber. Not much penetration. However I wish I had taken a picture of the cylender gap wound to my finger and hand. There was penetration there.

      @@justsendit8082 well it is a great opportunity to be honest and It makes things very clear about "not being able to call that round back" no do overs. And I guess I was trying to point out that things happen that you never want to think about and pro b only wouldn't want to admit. And still as I was assuming a mechanical malfunction was more likely to be the issue other then my inexperience with that revolver, I had the muzzle in the safest position.
      First rule right and then some where down there us don't cradle the cylender as if you were handling an auto loader. ... sooooo training with experienced handlers is a great idea . And best thought of and applied before the big bang follows by the oh s#$t.

    Shot a 556 (Hornady HP don't recall the weight) through two interior walls one of which was a wet wall with fiberglass shower over the sheet rock and a cheep hollow wood door before it stopped in the asbestos siding. There aren't generally going to be cinder blocks in interior partitions or exterior walls in most residential construction in this area. So I'm weary of using an AR around the house or neighborhood. The house was one that was going to be torn down in an isolated location btw.

    Is it worth mentioning when masonry is stacked and bonded it will not fragment as easily as a single piece? Or it may create a hole in a specific area? I can't provide the link or even name the forum, or TH-cam will censor this post. The article is based on a lot of fundamental research into terminal ballistics, including the work by Dr. Gary Roberts. In short, M193 is not recommended, as it jaws and breaks up unreliably and too late inside a body.
      M193 only defeats level III and only in long-barreled ARs. It doesn't work against "level III+" or level IV. You know what does? A shot to the face! Get some training! The Mozambique Drill is pretty much part of any quality class, including Reid's.

    I use AP rounds for home defense. You know in case they're wearing body armor.

    The 5.56/.223 was designed to be an anti-personnel round, not an anti-material round so that makes sense. However it will zip right on through soft barriers. If I have to pull out the AR then things have gone really bad with multiple military gear criminal threats. For most common criminal threats a shotgun with #4 turkey load is plenty or secondary FBI protocol frangible pistol loads. If I miss the target under stress those shells/rounds penetrate less while still being able to stop close range in the house distance threats. There is no magic bullet that will not over penetrate barriers. All we can do is use ammo that penetrates barriers less while still being able to stop threats. This is not needed where bystanders are not a concern.

      What if it's a person and not a turkey breaking in your house? What if the person breaking in has an ar or a shotgun w 00 buck and you have turkey loads and they are mentally not there? I say it would be a bad day for you and your family.

      @@rbm6184 yes, I am for real. I'm not saying turkey loads won't do damage, but what if the fight goes outside or to an area where the distance between you and him is not very close? He's gonna be hitting you with very deadly rounds while you are basically just hurting him (which may not even bother him if he is mentally ill or methed out). He may also take cover behind a wall or something which will seriously dampen the ability of turkey shot. It's yours and your loved ones lives, do as you see fit...I just don't think it's a good choice against someone potentially armed with something that will end you very quickly while you are only doing damage to their flesh.

      @@JoshBenware First, have you ever seen what birdshot can do to a human body at close range? Yes birdshot kills at close range. Second, don't you think I also have buckshot if I need it? Lastly, you are responsible for every round/shell that leaves your gun. You can use your ammo wisely so that there is less collateral damage or less chance of hitting bystanders.

      @@rbm6184 I know a guy who's house was broken into. He was shot from across the room with birdshot. He was able to then empty 2 mags into the home invader after being shot by him with birdshot from 10 ft. He was shot in the stomach. It didn't do a lot of damage. You do whatever you want, but reality is different than what you believe.

    Any cartridge that is capable of producing viable penetration on a human target is going to blow through interior (and most exterior) walls of modern construction.

    You need to remember, if you're shooting through a wall and hit a 2x4 you're going to hit it on its edge. So instead of having to penetrate 1.5 inches of wood, you'd have to penetrate 3.5 inches. Not that it would change much but it would be more accurate.

    • @timrobinson6573
      @timrobinson6573 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      That's one possibility. The other is that you hit the wall at an angle then you would be penetrating through the 1.5 inches.

    • @Hookset2490
      @Hookset2490 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@timrobinson6573 That's true, but even then unless it hit at a 90 degree angle to the stud it would still be penetrating more than 1.5 inches traveling through it on that angle, which would also probably start it tumbling.

    I've seen both this video and the one on the 7.62X39, but wanted to ask...
    How about an average/standard 55gr 5.56 from an AR "pistol" (*10.5"), shooting through your average home window, as if someone was attempting to steal your vehicle? What are your thoughts on deflection and energy after the round goes through the window enroute to its intended target? (*By the way, great vids, man. Thanks for the education. 👍)

      You're going to prison unless you live in Texas and even then might still go to prison. The "protection of life and property act" laws really don't allow you to protect property when it should. Having insurance isn't an excuse to sit by and allow criminals to have their way with property that took you years of your life to acquire. Trainers and laws need to get off the PC no property is worth a life bs.
