In a "Situation" a field expedient version is a couple of pieces of 550 tied into a knot at each end of a piece of seat belt, cut to length as needed. Make loops with the 550 that cinch up, it will work on almost anything the nooses will fit around. If you acquire another rifle out on a patrol, how do you carry it back and still be ready!?!?!? Damn-it! Why didn't I think of that? Great video Reid. I love it. I have plenty of the 550 around the house. I use it on my vehicles, on my Ham Radio Grear, and always carry some hunting. Now I have a way to hook up that damn AR that nothing seemed to work on. Thanks Again.

Good stuff, I've been using paracord for a long time as well. Never liked the QD studs, they rattle and pop out of the sockets when they get snagged.

I've done something similar with my sling, only I've looped it in and out completely around the handguard.

I was never that sophisticated - just ran dummy cord thru the front sight assembly and around the rear stock of an M16A2, then attached the sling. That was in the mid 80s, and from what i was able to gather from pictures from Viet Nam, this had been going on since at least the mid 60s. Anyway, I’ve since gotten snobbish and have QDs and Vickers and VTAC slings on my hardware now. Don’t forget the tape up the front sling mount so it’s not flopping around in the woods.

Heat shrink over the knot should help prevent slippage too.
