A kid missed almost a whole class, and his only explanation was "I needed to be a midwife." His cat woke him up by giving birth next to him at like 4 a.m. He stayed with her and helped deliver 2 premature kittens. The teacher didn't even bother marking him absent and was worried about the cat.

We had a guy get in a head on collision with a telephone pole total his truck and come to school by b block. He lost his homework in the crash but managed to save his 5 dollar foot long. No one believed him until we saw the picture of the slightly burning truck. His homework was in the front and landed in the fire while his sandwich was in the back and the packaging saved it.

A motor cycle crashed into our home once. The dude riding it was STUCK in our living room glass window. I mean ... he was STUCK IN THE GLASS. I told him to stay still but he kept trying to pull himself out. When he finally achieved it - it was the most gruesome thing I have ever seen. Sliced skin ... hanging off of him all over. One arm ... hanging on by a thin piece of flesh. He was in shock at least so he must not have really felt it but I almost passed out. LOL

1:51 all you have to say in my school is "bus". everyone understands. sometimes the bus doesn't let you on, sometimes it breaks down, sometimes it 's late, sometimes it just never turns up. and occasionally one will crash into another and carnage ensues. public transit is a fucking nightmare.
One of my friend's bus was full of people, and he couldn't get on, so he waited for the second bus, which was coming for the people who couldn't get on the first. The bus turned into the main lane in front of them, and left them behind.
For me, in NY it’s “Public Transit”.

In high school, my best friend was late for 4 class, class starts in 0730 and it's half an hour a class. He told the teacher that his mom's car got into a accident while driving him there so she called his dad to drive him to school instead, his dad arrived and then drove him for not more than 5 minutes before the car's tire ran into a nail in the middle of the road and broke. So he had to walk like 30 minutes to go to school but then on the road walking there there was a emergency road block because some robbers had robbed a jewelry store and he had to take a detour and arrived in school 50 minutes later.
At first I thought it was a joke until I saw him coming to school by taxi the next few weeks. His mom has probably phoned the teacher too.

Yeah I also often have similar problems with going to school... I go to school in a quite little town by bus every day and I have two options: to go by one bus (on highway, 25 min) and then change to another bus to "return" to my destination (12 min) OR to go by one bus through all the villages etc. (around 30 min but has delay).
So I wanted to get to school by optimal option 1, but the bus hadn't arrived - so I took option 2 and thought I'll be late. I actually wasn't - it looked I'll even have some time reserve...but only to the village BEFORE my destination. The bus decided not to open the door there. We were locked inside the bus. I've never seen anything like that before... Two another buses drove by in meanwhile and both drivers were trying to open the door from the outside while communicating with our driver through a window. Our driver told us after some while: "Well take out your snacks, it's gonna be some time of waiting. We should be expecting another bus to replace the ours around 7:45 and carry on our ride." My class started ať 8:00 so I was nervous - but anyways, the bus comes at 7:55, its driver touches our door from the outside a few times and we were outside. Anyways, I was late and no one believed me why xD

A story of my mom.
She used to get to uni by bike. One day,she somehow gets under a truck,so she's a bit hurt,but also in some kind of trance,so that she isn't really thinking straight and all she has in mind is: I have to be at uni in time! So she drives the last Kilometer with her broken bike to uni,gets into her course and sits down,only a little late. No questions are asked,until her professor notices her little scrapes and how she's shaking,so he asks her,if she's fine. Her response: yeah,I only got u der a truck on the way here,but I'm fine!
Yeah,that professor was a great man and told her to go home and see a doctor,to see if she's really fine.
Fourteen years later,she still rides the same bike while on a bike tour with me and my brother
Edit to clarify: she didn't end up under the wheels,she got between them in the middle of the truck,so she wasn't driven over by the truck,but it was still a shock and from the fall and gliding a bit over the street,she was still hurt. If she would have gotten under the wheels,she probably wouldn't have survived!

Yeah it's crazy! My teacher saw a kid literally end up flying into the air after being hit by a car, falling down, unconscious for like 3 seconds then just get up, brush themselves off and start casually walking to the mini tescos. After that she ended up properly passing out, but people had already called the ambulance and he said they got there only like a minute after she properly passed out. Its the massive adrenaline rush, insane amounts and it's like making you forget and you are like.... Hmm.. What was I doing? Oh yeah grabbing some doritos from the shop!

Last semester, I was late for my Organic Chemistry finals cuz a kid fell off a jeep and I dived to catch him. On a highway. Going 45 miles. Oncoming traffic.
Showed up to exam room an hour late, torn shirt and dripping blood. Prof and class eyeballed me the whole time. Never gave explanations, nor am I given reprimands.

When I was in like, 1st grade, this girl was late to class (most likely eating breakfast). The teacher asked her why and the girl said "I had to go to the doctor's"
This was a lie but instead of shaking it off my teacher said "The doctor's doesn't open this early in the morning and your appointment already passed x amount of weeks ago. And if you did go, what vaccine would they have to give you? I would also need a doctor's note to make sure this is true." The poor girl was feeling pressured and cried. Her head was down all day. She was embarrassed and all of the kids were just staring at her while she was crying, which was visibly uncomfortable. I kinda still feel bad for her even if this was so many years ago.

She's literally a 6 year old in the first grade and the teacher gave her a whole speech about how she was wrong. Poor girl

Not really a "late" story, but still a pretty good one. I was the student. One day in middle school, I was assigned homework in two classes: English and History. So I sit down, complete the homework, and relax to watch some TV. About 15 minutes later, I notice a slight tearing sound. I look to my right to find my homework isn't there. I frantically search for it, the tearing noise getting louder by the second. So I get to my dining room only to find my cat sitting there with both assignments, *eating* the paper. I immediately think "I need proof, my teachers will never believe me." So I got a video of my cat eating my homework.
The next day at school, I get to my English class, and my teacher asks us all to get our homework assignments out. When she gets over to my table, she asks me, "Cat Nat? Where's your homework?"
To that, I simply reply, "Here," as I pull out the tattered remains of half an hour of work.
"What happened to it?!"
"My cat ate it."
"Yeah, sure. That's the oldest one in the book." I pull out my phone, and proceed to show her the video. By this point, everyone in the class was watching us. She sees the video, and I will never forget how shocked her eyes looked. "Just...bring another copy tomorrow." Everyone in my class wanted to see the video, but only before she quickly hushed them back into their chairs. My history teacher already heard about what happened in my English hour, I guess that's what happens when a student's pet literally ate their homework.

My friend's dog started having puppies while his parents were at work and he had to help her. He delivered 7 adorable Chocolate Labrador puppies, and he took a crap ton of pics and sent them to me. I told the teacher and showed her the pics and she put them on the projector. We went through them as a class and there were many "awwww"s and "so cute"s that day. It was awesome and the next day everyone kept highfiving him.
0:06 literally happened to me except I was on time the next day. It was October 2019 before Halloween when something in my garage over heated wiring, caused the propane to explode and burned down my house and garage. I am very thankful that within hours of it happening my friend had already set up a room for me in his house and had food. It’s not something you can relate to unless it happens to you. Seeing your memories, your life’s works, your bed, your awards, your guitar, rollerblades, watching you become homeless and owner of nothing. Just a bum on the streets now unless you got good insurance. It effects you in ways you can’t describe, this is gonna get pushed aside but don’t force anyone you know whose been in a fire around one. It hurts, when we look into the dancing flames, all we see is our childhood or lively hood burn.
If my house burns down, I don’t really own that much but there will be one thing and one thing only on my mind, my Xbox 360 hard drive, I have more than 10 years of memories on that drive, I can always buy a new Xbox, a new TV, it’s the only thing I own that truly is not replaceable, all I have to do is pull it out (I took the cover off so I have fast access to it) and I’ll have saved years of fun times

I told my teacher I got my foot run over by a car and needed to go to the nurse. She didn't believe me so I took of my shoe (I know your not supposed to when your foot is hurt) and showed her the tire tracks on my shoe and how my foot was heavyly bruised. (it was not broken thankfully but still couldn't walk without crutches for two weeks).

In my school we were told that a kid was late and gave no excuse. Was given detention and was one strike from more serious measures. Turns out he found a lost toddler on the street and brought them to safety at a nearby school in order to find the parents. Safe to say that when the school found out, all his misdoings were erased.
my school has 1 hallway. it’s pretty small and the lockers line that one hallway. well last year there was always kids late to class because one of the special ed kids with a wheelchair would weave through the hallway and cut people off, so everyone would just walk behind him. he even ran over people’s feet for fun. the teachers never asked further when people said they got stuck behind him. the school now makes him go through the halls at different times lol

The principal asked why I should not get a detention. Well the line of 'My teacher told me to not show up if I forgot my books seems valid enough.'
Also told the principal that if I get into trouble for this then I will not be doing anything a teacher tells me to do again.

Not me but my friend from the next class told me a student told the teacher by msg, that he will be late. He later turned up to school, hair messed up, uniform and pants stained with mud. He said he pushed a younger boy addicted to his phone aside from getting hit by a bicycle and he got hit instead. He had blood dripping from his knee. It turned out to be true because the next day the parent of that child came to out school and told the principal. And the principal
praised him a Infornt of everybody during assembly the next morning. The boy didn't came to school the next day( the day the principal praised him Infront of everybody but he wasn't here) because I THINK I heard it from someone that he actually broke his right arm and had head dmg by a little bit. I knew this because I walked pass that boy while going to the toilet.( I asked my friend who was in his class for the while story and the next day the principal praised him)
Think my best excuse for showing up to work late was, I was mountain biking late in the afternoon and fell and broke my jaw/some of my teeth. When I showed up for work the next day, I said through a locked closed mouth “sorry I was in the hospital for a lot of the night...broken jaw” they put me on light work for the next while until I could talk to customers again
When I was in elementary school, I use to go to an after school program (sorta like an evening care facility for elementary students) at my local community centre with a fire department attached which was at the other side of the field/playground owned by the school because my parents both worked late. One day after completing my school homework at the after school program, I was picked up by my parents and I forgot my homework binder at the community centre. This wasn’t a big deal because I could easily pick it up in the morning before class. Well long story short, the community centre burned down over night due to an electrical fire with my homework binder inside and the teacher just had to look out the window if she wanted to verify my claim.

Mostly because shit happens sometimes and there are legitimate reasons why people are late so it doesnt make sense to punish people who were late/absent for reasons not in their control
@@RaikouA Yes I understand. My point was that being late is not something one should even be punished for. It's somewhat similar as grounding a kid for self harming or failing a test. I believe people should be encouraged to learn and not forced to with fear of punishment.
A kid being late might be doing just fine in school learning wise. Punishing people for being late is silly. It's just some authoritarian bullshit that rules are rules and thus holy. Rules are just rules, they don't really matter.
I have a pretty good story:
One day when I was riding the bus we were going through a open fence to drop off the high schoolers and our bus hit the fence and took off the mirror.We parked in front of the the high school and had ambulance,fire trucks and police cars check everyone one of us to make sure we were ok.We missed half of 1st period.Btw our bus driver got fired and can no longer drive kids so now she works at Walmart.

I had a couple months ago, that I locked myself. My keys were inside and I had to go to school. Took me almost one hour to get inside, i was half an hour too late.
Another time, actually previous month, I locked myself again! But this time I had to go to work but I still had to walk with my dog.So I go out, but because most of the time there is someone at home, I didn't take the keys...... It took me more than 3 hours to get inside, and it resulted in being one and half an hour late for work😂
Edit: Also one time, my dog ate half of my homework. Teachers asked for evidence: so I held up my half-eaten notebook😂😂
Everyones saying their teacher's ask why they're late when all my school needs to do is get a late slip, show it to the teacher, then throw it out and just sit o-o

Student here... a few months ago on a monday... I fell down from a public bus and injured my leg. My college is strict with attendence.. having lower than 75% attendence = not being able to sit for exams and having to pay $15 for a retake. As you can guess... went to college with the injury... when I should've been treated as soon as possible and rushed to hospital, I went to class instead. Was late by 5 minutes for the first class cuz of limping that day... naturally didn't get the attendance.

The moral of most of these stories is to FREAKING TALK WITH YOUR PROFESSOR! If you are upfront about any issues or hardships, then they will usually work with you and make arrangements with you. They can’t help you if you don’t keep them in the loop of information!
About the guy late to work because of car theft and robbery... Can confirm, I was cashiering when my job was robbed, and the situation didn't really click with me until weeks later, at another job no less. My boss at the job I was robbed at had given me a mandatory two week break, but I kept working my other job like nothing happened until the manager there started getting visibly agitated about the upcoming holiday shoppers. I lost it, and everyone was confused as to why I was the one crying in a utility closet, including me. Adrenaline is a heck of a drug.

Former uni teacher here, but when I was in high school, our house got broken into in the wee hours of the morning and they took my phone and some of my parents' jewelry (rings, watches, etc). It was The Battle of the Bands in my school later that day and I wasn't able to inform my bandmates I wouldn't be able to go to last-minute band practice in the morning. They only found out when I got to school that day to prep to perform with them. It doesn't exactly fit the question 100%, but some of these I resonated with.
Not a teacher but it happened to me. The teacher was having a conversation with some girl by the doorway I didn’t want to cut in between them because I imagined that was rude.I guess the teacher didn’t see me so the bell rings she closes the door in my face the door hit my nose but i was locked out side. When I knock to get back in the teacher was like why were you late I said you closed the door on my face she didn’t believe me. But as we were talking my nose starts bleeding from when the door hit me. 😂.

Moved to the city and got a job at a hardware store. Had to use public transit to get there and I was still very unfamiliar with it so I missed the stop I needed to get off at on the way to my first shift. I got off at the nearest stop when I realized, and I was just on the far side of the hardware store parking lot... But in between me and the parking lot was: a fence, a creek, a barbed wire fence, and then a giant hill. I could've gone around but then I'd have been late for sure. It was spring so the creek was flowing but the hill was icy. Climbed through all the crap, showed up completely soaked, covered in mud, and sweaty as hell with 2 minutes to spare. Was hard to explain that one.

I went to community college in Fort Worth, TX to take my required courses before university in order to save money and hassle, and in case you aren't aware, Fort Worth is very proud of its cowboy culture and the Stockyards. One day I was driving to my afternoon class, when I got stopped by a huge cattle drive headed its way downtown, complete with wagons, cowboys riding horses, and dozens of longhorns. It was like something out of a Western. I found it amusing, and I also wanted to make sure I didn't get in trouble for being late, so I took pictures for proof.
Sure enough, I was almost ten minutes late to class. The professor asked why, so I showed him the pictures. He got a good chuckle out of it before he let me sit down and class proceeded like normal.
Not me. A famous celebrity in my country. Kim Chiu her van got abushed. 8 shots yet she still go to her job. Shooting for a drama series. Respect.

I got hit by a car omw to a field trip(had to go to hospital and missed the trip). My teacher was pissed that i missed it and didn’t call in, but i did go in the day after because it was close to exams. The teacher felt bad for not believing me.

11:16 This didn't happen at school, but on the way home. My bus driver crashed the bus into someone else's car by accident and we had to wait about 15 minutes for another bus. He actually dented their car and was standing outside, having an argument with the owner. Luckily nobody was seriously hurt just a few bumps and bruises.
Last year I was about to leave for school (already kind of late) when I looked into the garden and saw a hedgehog being trapped in our chain-link fence. It somehow managed to get halfway through one of the holes but couldn't get his butt through it and couldn't go back due to his spikes. So I just texted a friend saying I'm going to be late because I have to cut a hedgehog out of our fence. The teacher was quite amused.
The same thing happened when one of my friends asked a male classmate why was he so sad and quiet and did someone die jokingly. Then he explained it to her that her mother had just passed away and the look on her face was horrifying.
I wrote this paper for a course in grad school. I went to print it out the next morning - everything came out in gobbledygook. Brought this print to class and showed it to my prof. He laughed and gave me extra time to rewrite it. At the computer store, they told me it was a chip that bit the dust. This computer was still under warranty, but fixing it would cost more than getting a new computer. So I happily left the store with a new computer, went home, and rewrote the paper. Got an A on it too.

My dad, back when he was in high school, once got in trouble and had a teacher try to call his parents. They weren't picking up, my dad said “they’re not going to pick up, they're in Antarctica. Teacher didn’t believe him, he was telling the truth. My grandfather’s a documentary film director, he was shooting a movie there.
In highschool, we had open lunch.
My buddies and I thought we would drive down to McDonald's.
It was a little further than we liked, but we figured once in a while would be fine.
But on this particular day, we got to McDonald's fairly quickly and was making good time.
The issue came when returning.
We had to cross train tracks. And for whatever reason, that day the railroad company had decided to pull up the old rails, and put down new rails.
Now it was interesting to see the machine that does this, but it took about 45 mins.
Needless to say we were late back to school.
We entered the office, explaining why we were late. And the secretary just said not likely, and our tardiness would not be excused.
Lucky for us, a teach had came into the office just after us, and said, " They are telling the truth, I was caught at that crossing too, Why they decided to do that today is ridiculous".
So we got excused, but the secretary was not happy, kind of a Karen.
