- Life Mart is a convenience store chain based in Yekaterinburg, Russia. With more than 350 locations, the stores combine fresh and healthy food with a coffee shop and dining area. Could this open-store concept work outside of Russia?

What do you think of this type of store. With no main counter to purchase items from. Simple grab what you want, and pay at a self-service check out. Would this work where you live n the world? Is this the future of convenience stores around the world?

future urban dining trend right there Russell
I think so.
I'm not sure if it was only me who noticed it. Lots of cities in RUSSIA are mostly clean. The design of buildings, especially the main landmarks, are spectacular. Honestly, most of your reviews of public transportation to supermarket stores etc. were excellent. It keeps me wanting to see more. Very articulate!
I noticed that too. Very clean streets 🙂
Your seeing it right, even 2000km from Moscow the places are beautiful and spotless. Of course not everywhere is perfect. How ever as a whole the places I see and visit are very nice.
Its quite dirty. Use Google Maps street view at any random locations. Looks like a Warzone 99% of the country
When Russians went to Poland and filmed it and put on TH-cam then the Russians that stayed in Russia commented that the video was staged because it's impossible to live in such clean conditions as in Poland.
This kind of shop would probably close in a few weeks in the US due to theft. 😅
Much faster, I think...
It's not even a thought here.
@@Sergey_Bezhentsev...only a few days, at best
Very trustworthy people required with this concept.
That's exactly who Russians actually are. Unlikely what some media might tell you.
Ekaterinburg is a cultural citty.
No Way !.
Such a store will not last more than a day here in Los Angeles.
I've seen lots of videos recently showing what's going on in NYC and the shops there.
I'm in Bulgaria 🇧🇬 we have only self-service checkout in stores
But, without a counter at all. The staff in this store were only in the kitchen and coffee serving area.
The colors really fit together, i like it 😊
I think so also. That green color and furniture on the second level.
Now that's something really up to date, Russell. This is what we haven't seen yet here in Omsk, Siberia. Soon to appear, I guess.
I am sure there not too far away.
They already have 16 stores in Novosibirsk, so they will soon reach Omsk.
Splendid review of the grocery store
Thanks. A bit of a shorter version today.
Always a pleasure to spend time with you
Can’t wait to get back to Russia
Lot's to look forward to.
In the UK the incidence of shop lifting has soared since supermarkets introduced self service cashier points were installed so much so that many have now erected one way barriers. Some others have also taken them out altogether.
Personally I want to be served by a human being. Also the number of times there is an issue with a scanned item on self service such that you have to call an assistant. You also need an assistant to do an age check when buying items such as alcohol.
It also seems that very few self service points accept cash.
In summary the self checkouts get a thumbs down from me.
I know you like to tour through stores - if you ever get to the U.S., make sure to visit a Buccee's. The LifeMart reminded me of it a little bit but any Buccess is a totally unique experience - at least check them out online.
this place is so cute and very home style ) like you come to your close friend party)
Exactly, especially with the cozy seating upstairs.
Dear Russell, like the famous song by Aussie Jamiroquai, with you, it is 'travelling without moving 'from my couch but it is good to go 'vostok' - thx Russell & Zhenya
Oh come on...🤦🏼♂️ The word "typical" is missing...
hehehehehe. ))) Sorry, for this title, i resisted. I can add it later.
I only wish they had something like where I live in Spain. Such a novel idea. And so cheap.
The prices were great. Not expensive at all.
Hey Russel, thanks for another video from my home town! The shop does give off some 7- Eleven vibes for sure, but didn't Japanese completely change it to what it now is? Maybe it is the time to change it once again?
One thing I noticed is, there's plastic everywhere. Here in Aus most packaging is now paper or cardboard, it has changed A LOT over the last 3-4 years. I am not just talking cardboard food bowls or coffee cups or paper straws but computers and TV packaging. Also, reusable coffee cups like my glass KeepCup that gets me ¢50 discount at my local coffee shop in Melbourne - I haven't bought a disposable cup in years (and saved a few hundreds of them, if you think about it). Hope this helps!
Right, a lot of packaging. When I had breakfast with my friend, we were talking about the exact same thing. Thanks for the Super Thanks !!!
Interestingly, in Soviet times, everyday products almost never had plastic packaging. For example, a seller would simply wrap a piece of sausage or butter in wrapping paper. And milk / sour cream bottles were regularly reused for a second or third time. When the new times of capitalism arrived, the plastic packaging came from the West in huge quantities. Ecological Soviet methods began to be considered backward and anachronistic, inconvenient for customers.
Looks like american Starbux or norvegian Narvesen convenience store chain. But in narvesen you can also buy some magazine to reed .
It's got a mix of about 3 or 4 different places.
@@TravellingwithRussell but it's popular .
reminds me a Vkusville chain in Russia
I was thinking the same thing. My local one though, is more like a supermarket version. These stores are more of a fresh food and takeaway style.
Unmanned shops have been around in Sweden since 2015. Two years ago there were about 130 of them, and the number is increasing. But in the Swedish shops there is no staff whatsoever. Without the kitchen section, though.
Hahaha! I’m going to a grocery store later! 😂
This store might be interesting then.
@@TravellingwithRussell I wish Jacksonville Florida had a store like this! This could be perfect for riverside or San Marco.
Very interesting, i think russia is slowly becoming like japan with the no cashier convienence stores maybe in the future all convienence stores will have no cashiers at all we also have self serve coffee machines at 7 eleven convienence stores in Australia
Some Russian supermarkets have both a live cashier and a self-service checkout. If there is no queue, I usually choose the live cashier because I like to exchange a few words with her (less often with him).
Will Moscow have one ?
Eventually they will. It's a franchise model of store. The main challenge is to set up the food production as well, 90% of the items are made by there own kitchens.
Yeah, there's the concept of "fast food." And this is the concept of "fast eat..."🤷🏼♂️😁
Exactly. go in, find your lunch, pay and head out. Or relax inside if you like.
I don't like this sort of thing at all. It takes away a job from someone. I never go through self checkout.
The same amount of staff still work in the store. Usually 2 or 3 staff are always in the store. Making coffee, or filling the shelves.
Can you pay with cash? I'm guessing the answer is no.
This is conditioning. Next up: CBDC, Social credit...
Russia certainly doesn't look like the "escape" that many believe it to be.
@@williamjp7352 Cash eventually will fade away like a thing of the past.
@@williamjp7352 you can pay with cach through self checkout as well, although cash is already a thing of the past. Not only young people, but also pensioners prefer to pay with a card. You can dp it almost everywhere, why carry papers and coins with you?
But this store had in another cities ?
Currently, Жизньмарт/Zhiznmart ( Lifemart ) stores are represented in 8 regions of Russia, including St. Petersburg. This chain of stores is constantly expanding.
They also have stores in the neighboring country of Kazakhstan and even in Dubai.
London has had several of these since 2021. Too impersonal for me.
This isn't totally staff-less. They have the employees serving coffee.
GULASCH
I love Gulash. )) I hope you mean the Hungarian meat dish.
I don't like this sort of thing. I'm a boring old fart and I like cash and tills worked by people. I see a lot of people especially younger people using self check out with phones and stuff so they may not have a choice in the future because when us old cash farts have gone all transactions will be electronic. I know some people think that's better. Just saying I don't like it.
I hear you. I do agree with you that it will backfire in the long run. That it’s a step to the total control over people, exactly like the Bible predicts. But there’s no arguing with the fact that it’s indeed very convenient to use self-checkouts, I use them all the time when I go to the grocery store. It’s better than standing in a queue.
Well I guess if we want it or not the prophecies will come true 🙁
@@spacetraveller9399 I don't know about prophecies. If it is what people want then it is their choice. Just saying I don't do it. At my local the queue for the self check out is about the same as for the till at the moment.
Great concept but I do agree it does eliminate an opportunity for someone to make some extra money to get thru university or simply make ends meet. Also always nice to have some friendly banter when making a purchase...less of a feeling of being “processed”
Not good practice ,human is better solution to serve than these robots
You still have the staff there making coffee and tea. They will also come over and help you check out, if need be.
Russia is short of 15 million workers. There is a shortage of personnel in all sectors of the economy. That is why there are more and more delivery robots, barista robots, cleaning robots, unmanned vehicles, self-service checkouts in supermarkets, and smart stores without staff. Businessmen simply cannot find staff. No one wants to do real work, everyone sits in offices.
Dont know what they are trying to do. We have stores without any personnel, that is open 24h each day. But here 3ppl is working, its like a normal store. And dont know why they need so many workers, 1 person would be more then enough
3:12 ice cream 🍨
Yes. I didn't get to try it, I did have sushi and sandwiches though.
My dog watched this video with me and I think now he wants to be a blogger too🔥
Woof, Woof. ))
