    So mad I missed the live. I’ve read them all and they were all five stars. The third one has been my favorite.

    My ratings of the series are 4.5, 4, and 3. I will be continuing only because they’re quick and easy to read 🤪

    I feel like these books are really geared towards people who love Janet Evanovich. The Stephanie Plum series reads very similar to these books and that series DOES go on forever and ever with similar tropes and things happening (There are over 25 books now). I find it really fascinating and would love to know if any one who was on the live show have read series like these before.
    I also loved them on the reread. It didn’t change my rating at all.

      I love the Stephanie Plum series and will continue to read all of them. They are also very readable. I think what makes it better than Finlay is that each book can stand on its own and wraps up whatever mystery was going on

    • @BookishMandy
      @BookishMandy ปีที่แล้ว

      @@monicamoss347 fair and valid points! I’ll say that Evanovich also does a great job at recapping what happened in the previous books if it’s relevant.
      I don’t know, maybe I’m just easier to please sometimes. I love Finlay as a character - she’s a mess and the books themselves show her as a hot mess. Does she need to be a good mom/person/have it all together to be a good character?
      I don’t know. I’m here for it.
      But yeah, I’ll definitely reread Stephanie Plum too. Grandma Mazur. All I have to say. 😂

    I recommend the Elderly Lady series by Helene Tursten. Quick tldr - it's a collection of stories from a little old lady's life, that's not scared to get rid of someone that's in her way. I think it's only 2 short books!

    Finally finished book 3 today! I think this is just a case of you guys not being used to cozy series (which is totally fine/valid) . I'm 29 books into two different series and the same love triangle is going strong! It's more about the crazy stuff they can come up with each book/case

    Very late to this, but i just read all 3 this weekend (can't wait for the 4th one) and i have to say the 3rd book is my favourite!
    The 2nd one being most fan's favourite choice is surprising to me bc god damn it's my least favourite. I hated that the plot revolved around her ex husband lmaoooo. The 3rd book being mostly in one location was so fun and a nice chance of pace from her other all over the place books. Added a different type of tension to it (and the image of Nick all shower-wet and going stepdad mode?? hello i think my ovaries are still quivering). Ever since that one line in one of the books where Vero compared Mrs Haggarty to Estelle Getty made me love Mrs H even more - picturing Estelle Getty doing the things Mrs H did in the 3rd book had me giggling like crazy, and biting my lip not to wake the whole house up at 3am bc i just couldn't put the book down!!
    And the whole love triangle thing...... **SPOILER ALERT*** thank god that's (perhaps temporarily) ended. Nothing puts me off a series more than a pointless love triangle, especially when they are never evenly matched in 'competition'. It's honestly one of the laziest things a writer can do to add tension IMO.
    Can't wait for the 4th one to come out, but it kills me that i'll probably have to wait another year, as i've been collecting them in paperbacks, and i cant suddenly switch to hardback bc it'll bug me seeing it on my bookshelf

    I don't think anyone in this group has read Stephanie Plum because this book is obviously inspired by that series in terms of the absurd tone and wacky characters. I wouldn't be surprised if it becomes like Stephanie Plum where there are 3928 books in that series.

    I finished the book yesterday but couldn't make the live show! I've rated the series 5/4/3 but even though it is a sloping scale I still really enjoyed it. I appreciate this book club pick because I read 3 books for it! And they were all fun and fast paced. I can't remember the last time I caught up with a series. I will read book 4 but like everyone else need it to have a point, a conclusion.

    I dont know what book were you all reading but on book 1 Steven retained Vero's payment to coerce her into having sex with him. That's rape. And Finlay brushed It off as something "typical" of him and she's still hung up on him. And the man she's suppose to kill is a serial rapist that blackmails his víctims yet Finlay feels bad for him too and then she's not the killer, a man killed him, keeping Finlay "innocent" and "sympathetic". Notice how all the morally grey decisions fall on Vero, the latina woman.
    And the motherhood thing. Book 1 starts with Finlay whining her ex wasn't mantaining her life style and he wanted the full custody of the kids. The little girl sliced her head and Finlay fixed It with tape, the baby she gave It to the father crying with a dirty diapper, does she even want the custody of her kids? Is the author aware of how family court favors fathers the most?
    The whole book was actually terrible, i was surprised you all hyped It. And it's clearly an attempt to a long ass series like the Stephanie Plun series, remember the movie One for the Money with Katherine Heighl? That's a 30 books long serie

      @s j it's literally everything they complained about book 3. You have serious lack of comprehension skills. What's even the point of consuming media at high speed and not even try critical reading? Better stare at a wall, you might catch one thought. Or you do you but stfu when others try to have a real conversation about books that's not just vibes and stars

    • @CosimasNiehaus

      lol in what world does family court favour the father????

    • @rocio9863
      @rocio9863 8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@CosimasNiehaus in this world. Mothers get custody because they're the pimary caregiver but only when the father are not really fighting back. Fathers fighting for custody often happens out of post separation abuse and not real interest on seeing the kids. They can get It by accusing the mother of being neglectful, abusive, mentally ill, etc or just by showing they have more money, a better place. On the other hand if the mother accuses the father of abuse the court favors the father assuming the mother is lying to get her way. You should read How Many More Women? and Eve Was Framed. Just because there's laws It doesn't mean the individuals who apply them are not biased. It's also interesting how people just assume the ones favored are women, as if that's the only explanation to absent fathers.
