Exactly!!!! I totally thought the twist was going to be that Lisavet stuffed them afterwards because of all the mention of taxidermy and that went absolutely no where!
I missed the liveshow, but I also gave it 5 stars and am glad so many people loved it! My recommendation for people who liked this book would be Blood Countess by Lana Popovic. It's a YA Sapphic horror that is also inspired by Elizabeth Bathory and it's amazing.

I love all of these hosts in discussion together, especially for a book that I enjoyed so thoroughly 😍
I hated that this book wasn't really adding anything to the genre of lesbian vampires. I honestly didn't feel like it should have been marketed as LGBT at all. I never felt like Marion actually liked Lisavet on any level, I felt like they had no chemistry. It also seemed poorly thought out because it just plays into the tired trope of the predatory lesbian. I think this could have worked if Marion had a relationship with one of the other blood maids (so that the only lesbian relationship was not just the one she was forced into) OR if they had ended up together which would have required Lisavet to be better written. I love stories where we have morally gray gay characters but Lis wasn't even morally gray - she was just a straight up villain. We never got any reason to feel any sympathy for her or really any kind of interest in her as a character. To me it just felt like this book was playing into stereotypical predatory lesbian tropes without making any commentary on it. Killing Eve or Interview with the Vampire are I think better examples of "good" toxic queer relationships. This one didn't feel like it was saying "they're toxic but they want to be together because of this" it literally just felt like it was saying "this lesbian is taking advantage of all these girls" and that's such a tired story.
3 stars. Loved first half but about 1/3 way in figured out ending and hated it. Was interested in idea of bloodmaids selling blood instead of their bodies in exchange for comfortable high class life serving the nobles but the hasty ending that took a right turn wasn't as enjoyable or interesting as the rest of the book for me.
After waiting 3 whole months my library hold came in and I hope I get to read it this year.

So sad I missed the live show! I gave house of hunger 2.5 stars. I found it slow & boring & predictable unfortunately.
Yeah, it was awful! 🙈 YA is so not for me! Also, I never got vampire from this…. Did I miss a supernatural element?
