@Mystic.i right, I have the feeling other people keep telling themselves others can only accomplish those things because they have talent. With that they are telling themselves they couldn't possibly achieve it without it - there are other reasons why he accomplished those things that other people can have as well. Determination, hard work, etc.

For all of those saying that they don’t have an iPad,
I think that the message that Samuel is saying doesn’t require an iPad.
All you need is a way to learn that YOU can connect with.
    OWN YOUR LEARNING.
Whether that’s an iPad Pro, iPad Air, notepad and pen or even an etch-a-sketch, as long as you’re breaking things down and building it back up, as long as you’re learning and not studying, THAT’S the secret here.
    Every individual learns differently.
It doesn’t and never will matter what device YOU have, as long as you have a method that works for YOU.

Mahadsa Boro I understand what you’re saying, and of course you need resources to create something. But in this case, it’s about learning, not having a machine powerful enough to edit 4K video footage on!! Learning is one of the most basic and primitive necessities of us as humans, and we were noting things down long before pen and paper, look at cavemen and how they used to draw on their walls!! Just because it may be easier somewhat to create notes on the iPad, the difference between machine and paper is minuscule when you think about it. My comment is about how it’s not a necessity to own an iPad to learn, but as Samuel says, you need to own YOUR learning. If it’s easier for YOU then by all means go for it!! But it’s not a requirement.

This should be required viewing for every single student upon entering college. (And why isn't Apple sponsoring this???) Thank you so much for taking time to create this insightful masterpiece. This is the last term of my first year in college. I am a non-traditional (older than average) student. If only I had seen something like this 4 terms ago, I may very well have a 4.0 GPA at this point. I have spent almost this entire time just "studying," trying to simply absorb enough information to "get the grade." It is in this moment I realize how little I have actually learned thus far. I will carry your message through the rest of my journey to a Bachelor Degree in Computer Science. :)

Dear Samuel. Words cannot express the gratitude that I have for you and this video that you made. 20 minutes of your heartfelt message help me release 46 1/2 years of anguish. I literally cried for a half hour. You see, I come from an uneducated family and the pressure to perform was so great that learning isn’t even on the radar. Scores, results, money, position, prestige...not once did my parents ever care about what I learned. In fact, I was so pressured into getting grades, I actually was illiterate until the 5th grade. Why? Because I was studying and I knew how to pass tests.
Learn violin! Why? So you can be smarter. Why? So you can earn more money! Go into business school! Why? So you can earn more money! And, after watching your video, I realized why I was so down to the point I tried to take my life 3 times. I had information but I never felt like I learned anything. My curiosity was always stopped. My imagination always ridiculed. God bless you Samuel. This was a huge breakthrough for me and I applaud you for your efforts here on TH-cam and elsewhere. Man, this is like a breath of fresh air. Best video on TH-cam.

I watched this video for the first time during quarantine, 3 years ago. I'm a 30y old woman and small company owner and was stuck at home, not planning on doing anything since my business can't be done through online shopping or internet. While trying to distract myself I randomly came across this video. It shook me to my core, I realised that I had never learnt to study, always kind of hated the school system even though I've always been extremely curious about many topics.
I went through high school, graduated without honors but having studied for about 1 month prior to the exams and never actually set foot in class. I just hated the environnement, being told how, what and at what rate to learn. I'm a deep learner, I was never able to just learn what was taught without a deeper understanding. As you can imagine, this didn't set me on the path of thinking I'd do well in medecine. My classmates that had graduated with curiculums heavy in sciences all failed, I majored in languages and philosophy. There was just no way back then (12 years ago) that I could even conceive of trying medecine, it was just for the other humans, the people that feel like a different species. I bit my tongue in envy, hurt, and regrets everytime someone mentionned med school since then.
I thought about leaving a comment a few times before but I decided to wait and be able to at least tell you I had achieved a tangible footstep in the right direction. Since this video, I got an Ipad, Pencil, applied to med school (Im from France, you can apply straight outta high school) end got rejected the first year. I kept running my business and studying straight out of work, on weekends, holidays, the curiculum that was required prior to the application, med schools want people that have some understanding of chemistry and biology etc, I hadnt been in school for 11+ years and didnt study those topics.
This year I got in, barely, received my acceptance 48h before the semester started. Nobody would ever have bet on me to do it, not even me.
I received my results from the 1st semester earlier this weekend, for my particular class there are 27 spots available to get to 2nd year.
    I ranked 6th out of 360 applicants.
I finally feel like I can accomplish something in my life, I have hope, drive and wonder for the very first time.
And it's all because of you. You inspired me and for that I want to say "Merci Samuel". No matter the outcome, You have changed my life.

I'm 50 now and I failed miserably when I was at school. It wasn't because I was dumb, it was because I had too many questions. To start with, teachers saw me as a disruption, leading to physical punishment like the strap (try doing that these days), eventually I just started to switch off. I wish back then there were people like you that understood that we all have different ways of learning. It didn't turn out all bad though. When computers were available in the 1980's I realised that all my questions and curiosity could be useful and learning computer code became a form of art for me. Today I have a great, well-paying job that I love, but I truly regret not having an education. Your videos are inspiring me to think about it again. I don't think it's ever too late to start learning. Thank you, I think your videos will change people lives.

You have taught me something in this video. Before I started High school I always got good grades. I never really studied and I easy understood the content. But now that I think about it; even though I got good grades I never really learned anything really. I remember parts of what I learned but I didn’t really learn it. I learned in all of my classes except history and science.
Fast forward to when I started high school; I started to complain a lot because the teaching system and the learning system was different. And my brain and I had gotten so used to just getting good grades without trying that I started to fail. Even until now I still haven’t succeeded. I would complain about how the teachers taught; and how the information was being distributed. But now that I’ve watched your video I have realized that The problem wasn’t with the teachers but it was with the way I was learning the information. For me what I would do is the teachers would give us notes and I would just copy them them and then I never look at them ever until like we have a quiz. At my school the teachers don’t really have lectures where they talk to you and try to explain the information. The information is given to you online and it is your job to learn it and to understand it and to be prepared for a test. My whole life I only studied so I could pass; and I never really even studied a lot. But Iam not mad that I pretty much failed this year; because I now know that I need to own my learning. I should focus on understanding other than studying for the test.
You have truly inspired me Samuel; and now it’s my turn to OWN MY LEARNING.
    Thank you 🙏🏾🙂

Omg your school experience sounds like it was literally the exact same as mine: would really love assignments, tried super hard to make visually appealing and connective notes but have them actually be a waste of time and then being disappointed when you didn’t get the marks you felt you deserved given the amount of creativity invested into “soaking up” that content. Thank you for this really great vid. One of my main reasons for investing in an iPad Pro is for vids like this that make my creativity in note taking feel validated, and turn in into productivity that’s actually useful. Thank you

I bought an iPad just so I could watch Netflix while on my running machine during a particulary harsh lockdown in Chile. (No exercise outside at all). I also decided to study some GCSE's that I had failed on in school, I'm 49 now.... I soon gave up studying for exactly the reasons in these videos, that my note taking was just copied from textbooks, I didn't remember any of it and was bored easily. Now, more than a year on, having not picked up a single textbook, your videos have inspired me to stop watching Netflix and start studying using the diagrams and colours and fun ways of getting my creaky brain to start wherring again! Thanks so much... I wish you could be my doctor, you are one of the most enthusiastic, articulate people I have ever seen....

Very true but with on of my professors he did this in Macro for his definitions of terms. But he told us if there is any better way to word them and actually explain someone all that term might mean he is the first one that wants to hear it.
Not rly as a smart ass but as in his definitions where actually very good and ditched the book fluff I learnt so much and he reinforced that we got to actually learn which meant looking dumb asking dumb questions getting lost etc and eventually you got nowhere else but to learn it right.

You just mind blown me and all of sudden... for the first time in the past 17 years or so, I woke up with this new mindset just now. I can’t believe it. Once I see this video, I cannot go back 😂😭😭😭 omg thank you so much for changing my life. I agree with you 1000%. I just don’t know how to own my learning and as much as I do not like to admit because it’s humiliating, I don’t think I know how exactly to learn. I realized that my anxiety and my struggles with my studying strategies no longer apply because I had been doing it wrong. I shouldn’t have to punish myself for the wrong marks and the stress that brought up on myself because of the system. I need to own my learning but I do not know where to start...

Thank you for speaking directly to my soul with this video. I was always a curious child. I have always loved learning that I was a triple major in college (English Literature, Biology, and Fine Arts). I realized that I loved teaching, so I ended up teaching MCAT at The Princeton Review before I headed off to med school (even got awarded the Best Teacher Award in the US/Canada one year!). Then med school turned out to be a soul-sucking, cookie-cutter school that wanted to churn out competent doctors like a factory. It stripped me of my soul that I almost forgot why I went to school: to genuinely help people. Fast forward, I'm a busy doctor with my own practice now, but I'm still a student at heart. I miss learning and studying. (I don't miss the tests). I miss the opportunities that a university brings - meeting people and going to all kinds of events. I constantly learn from my patients and I derive joy from learning about their stories and their health journeys. Thank you so much for speaking up on the topic of failure. Failure shapes us. It makes us stronger and builds character and grit. I really enjoy your videos, Samuel.

Samuel, Tbh i have been watching TH-cam for like 8 years but only liked about 12 videos in total including yours. The way you explained everything and how you evaluated every aspect, I couldn’t help but be amazed the whole time through out the video. Sometimes it felt like a professional iPad commercial at times. Before watching this video i thought this was gonna be another typical “ipad learning” type video. But then i was really surprised and excited when i saw that you were representing the story like a movie. Its overall really really organised and perfect video.
I am still a student and I take notes on the ipad mini 5. But what I understood is that people don’t actually need an ipad pro or they can even roll with a sketch book or a notepad. Tools are just for helping the “learning process”. The main thing is understanding and learning how to do it and it can be done on any device or any types of physical text books.
Thanks a lot for making this video. I am sure this video has helped a lot of persons. And I also rarely subscribe youtube channels but you have earned a sub man. Never stop making these types of videos and also I also got goosebumps at times by watching the way you expressed yourself and gave motivational speech throughout the whole video. Thanks man really appreciate your videos a lot.

Samuel, I am in my junior year in secondary school going senior next year, this video changed my life. I am currently having my mind blown by the things you talked in this video. Now I finally know why I dislike opening up a book and *study*. I really hate it, I thought I was dumb, Immature, a failure, a burden. And why I was so good, knowledgeable, Intellectually at the things I LIKE, the things I enjoy to read about, to learn about, to think about.
It is because I was Curious. I was Curious about the things I like. The things that my friends think is boring. The thing they couldnt even care less. It was as you said in the video, I hated studying but love being curious and actually learn. When I open my textbooks i see myself as studying and the things there are just stuff I wasn't Interested and curious on. I am a person of logical and rational. Me stumbling onto your video at 4 a.m when next year is my first important step dedicated to my life is God's plan. Opened my eyes and gave me a hard but gentle pat to the back. Thankyou Samuel. I'll be coming back here soon. ♥️

i almost cried, this has touched me so much. i've always been one of those students who couldn't deal with our education system and always struggled, i have always been curious, asking questions, trying to connect everything to real life situations, trying to apply these things, and my institutes have always failed me in teaching me, and supporting my thirst for knowledge, and so have my parents. I am a microbiology student; this is the first video of yours that i'm watching so i don't know what subject you studied in college, but i saw biology notes, so if possible please share those notes with me, i would do anything to have you as my teacher. i also make notes like you do, but i'm not able to make complete notes due to my circumstances and my mental illnesses. it would mean so much to me if you could help me out whether it be teaching or sharing your notes. thank you so much. we need teachers and students like you in this world, ones who wish to learn and feed curiosity and not fear.

this makes me think of when we needed to read a book just to tell our class about it, an assignment that most people cheat on and never even read the book. I asked the teacher why its nessacary to do this and she told me that it's good for our vocabulary. I didn't agree with what she said so instead of reading a book and then telling class about it, I did 2 things. 1, I wrote a paper on why reading a book that's aimed at your age doesn't help improve vocabulary that much as compared to reading news articles about topics that you don't know as much about, and how it could further help develop a critical thinking skill by talking about/debating that article in class instead of just listening to someone talk about a book that you're never gonna read. the second thing I did was read a book and still present it to our class so that my teacher couldn't just say that I'm lazy. I asked her what she thought of my paper and she told me that she just doesn't care. That was the moment when I started to develop a hate towards our education systems and knew that if i wanted to spend my time being productive that school wasn't gonna learn me how to do that.

I used to enjoy the process of learning. I would read our textbooks many times, not to memorize but to have a deeper understanding of the concepts. And it also isn’t because I wanted to ace the test.. I just really want to learn and satisfy my curiosity. The score just follows. I’ve gotten one of the highest marks in a national certification
exam. However, med school is just overwhelming for me. The amount of readings you have to do take up most of your time. And as a student trying to graduate on time, you would rather choose to memorize than understand a topic. I just lost that excitement i feel on learning about a topic. That is why this video is sooo amazing. It gave me motivation to try harder and to find a way to enjoy learning just like how I used to. Thank you for this!
