I remember being so angry when he left to join United. Now having had years to reflect, he was right for leaving. And good on him for getting himself a premier league winners medal. Truth is as a club, we weren’t serious then and we arnt serious now.

Spot on. It never bothered me when he left for Man Utd as i couldn't blame him wanting to join them. Maybe if he wasn't so injury prone things could have been different but the hat trick at Chelsea and that absolutely insane volley at Charlton will always stay amongst my favourite memories of RVP
@@Carlin-qt4jk same here. I didn't get how at the time, people were somehow resenting him for actually wanting to win the league... which he ended up doing. I never had any issues with RVP, Fabregas etc. They have all pretty much been proven right in their moves and Arsenal keeps going down year after year. So sad to see.
I completely understand Robin's version of events and believe him. Business is ruthless but I believe he meant well for the club, the fans and wherever he went on to.

It's clear from RVPs face and answer when the interviewer said 'but didn't you make it clear with your demands that offering a contract would be pointless' that he is being economical with the truth. He knows full well that if it had been offered he wouldn't have signed it

If your a United fan your not a very good Supporter. Fergie was ruthless! he sold major players Ince, Kanchelskis, Beckham, Van Nistelrooy but he always knew what was best for the team. Arsne knew Robin had to go too

SAF was ruthless to some players who are against the club, unprofessional, bad behaviour, etc. but Van Gaal would kick players he didnt like even tho they are giving their best for the club.

His problem was that once Southampton managed to figure out our strategy and how to route it he felt personally embarrassed and refused to play attacking football again in order to never feel that embarrassment again

Played is a figurative term, he spent much of his time injured, he was given numero uno status at the Emirates and only really had one stellar season. I think his ego and demands is why arsenal got rid as they knew he wasn't ever a longterm investment, which proved to be the case when he left for utd and was done after 1.5 seasons.

Another huge LVG mistake made...Loved watching Robin play for Utd, like he was born for it. Wish we had him years prior and 3 more following.
Van Persie, Chicarito, Evans, Welbeck, Rafael, Evra... he gutted the squad and hired players who were not up to it or past it.

This guy won us our last league title. He is still very actual.
When Arsenal players leave, I have always blamed the club for not providing the right environment and culture for our players to sustain success. Yes we built a stadium and the debt had to be paid but consistently lose our best players every season was the downfall of our club. Our fans have always blamed the players but it’s good to hear these stories where we get a true reflection of the harsh world of being a footballer. I heard similar stories with Adebayor and others where the board treated them like shit. Since Kroenkes came to the club we and he gained a bigger percentage of the club we slide further and further downwards.

Everyone at the time knew United needed a goal scorer, the fact that Arsenal were willing to sell RVP to United wasnt really entirely his fault imo. United n Chelsea were their rival n they sold him. Now 2022/2023 season, imagine United selling CR7 to City or Liverpool. RVP's transfer was worse than this.

I think the reason why arsenal young team failed to win anything worthwhile is because wenger decided to bin senior players off too prematurely. Senior players like Vieira, Campbell, Lehmann, Cole, Henry, Pires, Gilberto were being allowed to go one by one every season eventhough the young players were still in great need of their guidance on the field. Even SAF always kept senior players in his team, like Schmeichel, Pallister, Cantona, McClair in the 90's and Giggs, Gary Neville, Scholes in the 2000's.
The biggest difference between Man UTD and Arsenal...£50k per week. 😂😂😂

oh and by the way, go check out how ivan gazidis ran milan. same modus operandi. old players out.no matter what van persie did it didnt matter(gazidis's meeting with rvp revolving the 7 points feels almost like a disingenuous charade to me). board was just adament about letting him go(poor arsene though, trapped in the middle). given the kind of personality rvp has (frank, does not like politics, family orientated warmth, open, sometimes brash etc etc) it is no wonder he suddenly went bonkers momentarily and release that open letter.

Different standards. United didn’t accept failure under Ferguson. Almost all players at United will say, at United, losing is not an option. Unlucky for Arsenal, you have one of the greatest strikers, even at that age, having that hunger and desire to win, and then you decide to sell him. I remember loving the idea of us having RVP, from the off it was "Wenger has fleeced United, they’ve paid silly money, they’ll never win the league with an an injury prone striker, on his way out".
Won the league in his first season and I believe was the league’s top scorer. Love the guy.
