Would you eat wild mushrooms?
I don't know one from the other, I wouldn't wanna wind up hallucinating.
Yes, I love foraging for wild mushrooms.
We grew up eating Morels, both red and brown ones. We would all spend the day in the woods hunting mushrooms, poke salad, curly dock and lamb's quarter. Mom would pack a lunch- simple foods- and we'd either eat on the hood of the car or a blanket on the ground. Sometimes daddy would catch fish. Mom soaked the Morels overnight in salt water, she said it got bugs out. She would slice the big! ones horizontally, flour them in seasoned flour then fry them in bacon grease. Oh my gosh they were good! We might have pokesalad with curly dock and lamb's quarter, and a pan of cornbread with bacon meat cooked in. Other times mom would fry mushrooms and tenderized steak together. Gosh poor folks eat good 😋 Im hoping you have a bumper crop of mushrooms dear, I know you know how to put them up so you'll have mushrooms when the snow flies again. Enjoyed watching dear, stay warm stay safe and GOD bless
When i was younger i found plenty of Ink Cap mushrooms in my backyard and fried them in little butter with sweet onions and potatos...of course with salt, pepper and chili flakes... So delicious!
Yes I would and have
Warm food on a cold hike especially made with foraged food is one of lifes great pleasures.
I had a small steel thermos Id break the eggs into and have the other elements in plastic bags (didnt have zip locks) add the egg and tie the bag top and boil until ready.
Id use the water for a warm drink and set off again, no mess left behind just footprints in the snow.
Thanks Silas you remind me of my youth and all the hours we spent in the woods. Coming home at night and my mother always wanted to know why I smelled like a campfire. Good times.
🇨🇦 My favourite part was your expression when you lost that piece of bacon 🥹
Thanks for posting I enjoyed it
I really don’t have anything to say, I’m just trying to help you with the like and comment. Keep up the great channels. Better than anything one tv these days.

Silas, All food tastes a lot better in the woods especially when you can add some mushroom spice!
What a great hike and enjoying the outdoors. Thanks for the idea on the omelette in a bag, that looked delicious. My favorite part, is that you take time to pray and give thanks. Peace
Wonderful that you took some time to relax. While the snow is beautiful to look at it's horrible to drive in. I'm ready for spring. 😊😊
Make sure the bag u use for cooking is a freezer bag. Thicker 😂
Excellent chef silas cheers 🥂 😊
🙂
wow you make me want to go out camping love winter camping
Grew up with lots of memories harvesting wild mushrooms, as in 1970ies were still tons around. But later they became rare, think mainly it became fashionable to get them. Mushroom omelette is delicious.
During the shut down of 2020 it became very popular to go hunt them. It’s been very competitive since then
I liked the video from sart to finish. Keep up the good work.
That omelet looked great.

I liked your method of cooking the mushrooms and the eggs and bacon.
You can cook them that way at home as well. Very handy

Yikes. Never even thought of that "Ziploc" thing. I gotta remember that one. Coolness!
Just one positive comment I like to be added,no matter what you post,Im watching and I entertained😊
Everything tastes better outdoors. But mushrooms, ou boy, they are the best.
Love your videos buddy
Nothing better than some good mushrooms
I wish I knew how to tell the good mushrooms from the bad. I'm happy you had a successful mushroom hunt and a meal!
Me too it would so great
It’s taken me a lot of years to get to where I can identify wild edibles fairly easily
I liked the new way to make an omelet I'm going to try that way next time I go camping thanks for the idea.

Great idea cooking in the bag like that... Would make a great deer hunting lunch!
That is the easiest way to cook eggs for sure, comes in handy when your feeling lazy.
Hi Silas, over here in Australia . I love what we call wild field mushrooms cooked in butter with only salt and pepper . They mainly grow in old cow pads (cow shit ) lols U have to get there in the early morning . B 4 the dry out in the sun . All good blessing to yah .
Foraging for fungus and other food is Awesome!
Sounds like a good idea.
FUN FUN MAN .... I WANNA DO this sorta thing also ...at some point soon
Mmmmmm wild shroooooms 🍄
Mmm fresh picked wild shrooms, almost better than… well you know. Ya need to get climbing spikes if they’re going to continue growing up there. Blessings brother
Omlet in the woods.
👍😋
I always take a machete with me when hunting mushrooms, oh , and a bag or two. If you have any black oak trees around that part of Kansas look for hen of the woods mushrooms in the fall growing by them. Recently I’ve discovered hunting truffles under pine and hickory trees but you have to dig them up. Always enjoy your viddias and appreciate ya taking the time to make em.
No oaks at all unfortunately. Only about 4-5 varieties of edible mushroom grow in this area. All the chicken/hen of the woods, chanterelles, etc grow out east
Love your channels Silas, and maybe a collapsable pole sae for those hard to reach oysters? Just a thought... God bless from Canada.
Looks like you are having fun getting away to yourself.
I'd fire up one of the bucket trucks you have to get up to those mushrooms way up in that tree. (10:11) That was a nice bunch.
Another good video, my group does primitive camping several times a year, and we always take out garbage that others leave. Leave it cleaner than you found it. My first time finding oysters was because of a squirrel eating one.
I would definitely eat wild mushrooms
Something to add to your pack, I carry 50’ of brick layers line attached to a Monkey’s Paw for a throw line.
GOOD JOB!
That was fun. Thanks for the tip on making the omelet. Great idea.
You don’t need to worry about me littering Silas. Now I’m going to go fix me an omelet…. with ham.
Thanks Silas, you found some tasty wild mushrooms! It's funny as my eldest has just been going on about trying chicken of the woods!
I wish those grew in my area
@@moreadventuresmadefromscratch same! Now TH-cam is showing me mushroom growing videos, think I'm going to give it a go!
I never met an omelette I didn't like! The more cheese the better!
I would've ate that piece of bacon off the ground.
I know me.
👍😋
Man, you need some pole climber gaffs! Only thing is, those trees don’t look safe to climb. You need a cherry picker truck! I enjoyed this walk in the woods, thank you!
Plus you can always carry mushrooms or blackberries in your hat. My grandpa taught me.
YES! I would eat wild mushrooms. IF I were as knowledgeable as you are, but I'm not, so I steer clear of them. Nice how you're able to actually cook a hot lunch on a hike. Interesting as always!
Just watched, now I’m hungry.
Hey next time bring enough for everyone lol
great video that looked delicious needs ketchup lol
get yourself a extension painters poll and put a cut out can to cut them off the tree like picking apples
All of the above
Thank didnow
snow is pretty interesting camping hack. will keep that in mind
You make me want to go find mushrooms.
It looks beautiful
Look out for the train and look out for the shrooms!
Would you make some videos about your junk yard clearing away old vehicles metal detector too
thats a good idea omelet in a bag.
ahhahahahahha
Yes,would eat them if I could. But I'm not able to go for a walk in the woods anymore. Besides I don't know what is what. I just buy mushrooms at the store and eat them raw alongside meat.
@ShoeSniffer-qu7gg Not lazy. Lots of health problems and pretty darn old.
I wish you were closer! I like to share mushrooms with those that aren’t able to do it themselves. If you really want the experience, you can order oyster mushroom grow kits online for fairly reasonable.
Wassup
Hi
Hey Silas- how can you tell which mushrooms are not poisonous? I always wonder when you're hunting and eating them.
Years of experience and learning from other experienced hunters. Definitely never eat it unless you are 110% sure
@moreadventuresmadefromscratch Thanks ! Really enjoy the shows- take it easy!
put them in your hat
When are you going to learn to keep butter, seasoning and a tote bag? You're always forgetting those or tools etc.
Poor Silas LOL
