I have to admit, When I think about it looking at the 295 GTX board I remember being impressed aswell. Seeing the 2 giant GPU cores next to eachother really felt like supercharging your pc.
To be honest i only had a 3870x2 as a dual gpu solution in my entire life and was not convinced about the lack of smoothness while playing games, so i sold it a few months later to buy a HD 4870. Those were times where i didn't knew about frametime spikes and the like, but to my eyes something was wrong with the performance. Anyways really cool and interesting video as allways. Please keep the content coming!! Love this old gpu battles videos and your skills on making them!
Man where was this video 6 months ago! I've been building a retro system and was torn between these exact cards, ended up with a Gainward GTX 295 (for better or worse, not seen the results yet! Hope I chose right!) EDIT: I think I'm happy with my choice, especially since my 295 was half the price of your HD 4870X2!
@@nexus_tech It's 100% healthy for now, repasted it with Thermal Grizzly Cryonaut and only broke one of the plastic snaps! Just need to find a case big enough to house it comfortably!
Hi and thanks for the great video, I love this old hardware, both of these cards used to be my unattainable dream and even though I'm an avid Nvidia boy :) I'll also see these cards as a draw because those old radeons had and still have their charm and even I also have a few pieces on my shelf at home like x1950 Pro, HD3870, HD4850 and HD6970 :) thanks again for the video and keep up the good work.
Brings memories:)thanks gtx295 my first dekstop. Always fighting with my mate who had the amd. I had 2 gtx295 tho. Dell actually upgraded them for me for free, from 285 because the system xps730x was delayed for a long time. Imagine that today. Here are a 4090 for free
It has to be noted on Cysis 2 the game renders a full tesselated ocean beneath the map which is only there for slow down amd cards. On nvidia cards it's not there. I think there is a mod to fix that.
mhm tad incorrect on a couple of things. The later version of the 295 had locked VRM's so you couldnt adjust voltage! Second, the cores were basically 275's with 260 memory bandwidth. nothing in common with the 280
Hello mate, hope you're well? Asus cheaped out on the cooler & heatsink material, big time! On the other hand, those 295's heatsinks look mighty impressive! :)
@@nexus_tech Not first and last time they did so, I have a 7970 Matrix and while PCB itself is great the cooler is well... worse than most of the others manufacturer ones and especially disappointing considering this and the lightning supposed to be the kings of 7000 series
Your Noise testing is useless. You are set a non-standard dustance, the case sude us iff, you don't state whay db weighting is used it should be 'C'. As mpnotor disyance doub;es ;;eve; drops by half . Room temp is needed for temp relevance. Good series and vid production
Hello mate! Thanks for your feedback - I take onboard what you're saying. I'm in no way able to control ambient temps. That section of the video is merely to let the viewer hear and see the noise levels and the tone of the fan. This is not strict science, the sound meter simply sits in the same spot and I record the levels of audible fan noise. I always look forward improving the video tests :)
This dried up thermal paste theory is a lot of nonsense. Yes, it's dried out when cold, but it starts working as soon as it warms up, which is why the rib comes off the GPU more easily after 1-2 minutes of running. It's job is to cold harden and create a better bond.

Not just a very good video, but also a trip down memory lane! Loved my GTX 295 regardless of how much I battled with it.
9:56 D3D9 65 FPS, and below "avg is 101.1FPS" Somewhere there is a 4000FPS for a hundreds of milisecond, to belive this result.
that was pretty awesome
thank you for the video
looking forward for the next one
Glad you enjoyed it! I will try to push a video out every week. Appreciate your feedback

Hehe! Mate! I know, not that I not owned the card at that time! Sorry hahah! Glad you've picked yours cheaper, is it still going strong ?

@@deludedmarxist those bloody plastic clips! Glad to hear 😊
SHEESH nice one!! love to see it
Thank you :) Appreciate it
this takes me back, I had 2xGTX295 in SLI and a 8800GT in PhysX system in a x58 evga board loved that watercooled machine
Waited for this one.
Hopefully you liked the video :) Appreciate it !
Your channel needs more views for such great content.
Glad you think so! Hope you're having fun watching :)

The cooling on 4870 x2 looks so fresh. Just make it bigger, put some rgb and it could be sold brand new today on modern gpus
I Love these videos please make more ! I prefer the ATI card though hope you'll get to 1k soon !
More to come soon - appreciate your feedback :) I could not pick a winner this time

Wow awesome, I know 4870x2 and 5870 were more powerful than 295 but I always wanted a 295
Lol 8:10
i got scared, i thought was my PC hahah.
Huh! Sorry hahah!
I wish they still made GPUs with wild ass artwork on em
Agreed! Whilst there are some interesting cards out there, they are mostly boring lol
4870x2 is ahead of its time design-wise
Last game tested had higher frame times with nvidia, so that should have been a factor, because amd card looked like it ran the game smoother.
Nice!
Thank you! Cheers!

Ok, now run TWO GTX295's in SLI .. all you need is two 8-pin power rails and two 6-pins!
👍
I really like the gtx 295 more but the Radeon is Cool too.
I feel as the two are truly enthusiast cards at heart! Can't decide on fav :)
maybe 295 vs 5970 too?
I might do return to some of the cards in future :)
Nice
Thanks for checking out the video :) Really appreciate your feedback
These old gpus are so cool. Modern gpus are so dull.
Surprising how the 295 with one fan cooled better. But It might be because it draws less power. Otherwise the 3 fan design is very inefficient.

Considering the amount of stuttering visible in the gameplay tests. Both cards are trash.
