as someone who actually used an i7 965x, the official max memory size MAY state it supports up to 24GB, but realistically it supports up to 48GB. the specification sheet was written before larger 8GB DDR3 Sticks were available i had 48GB of DDR3 ram in my old 1st gen extreme system. unfortunately i had to ditch it in 2016 and use my 2nd desktop with an i7 3770k because games started requiring instruction sets that the 1st gen intel CPU didn't even support. kinda sucked, because any game that didn't require AVX ran so much better on my 965x than on the 3770k... and nowadays i am absolutely fucked because i'm still using that 3770k but games now start requiring AVX2.0 which the 3770k doesn't support lol i was hoping for Intel to introduce a brand new HEDT platform ever since the midlife of X299, so i held myself back from buying it because i was hoping that they finally go 7nm with an HEDT platform. looking back at it now, i probably was smart not to jump in on the 10980XE because it seems like the 12900k and the 13900KS dwarf it entirely with performance right now i'm hyped for the i9 Ultra 285KS, hopefully it will have much more PCIE lanes than the dogshit intel has been doing in the past 5 years - it seems every year they been removing more and more PCIE lanes just to increase their CPU performance or to add support for DDR5 or whatnot. i find it annoying that my computer from 2011 has more PCIE lanes available (and i used almost all of them) than a flagship CPU from 2024... this is ridiculous

8GB 2060 Super is worth looking for, they're all very similar to GTX 1660 Ti though. Slightly faster, RT isn't worth enabling on them really. DLSS support might be worth it though, have seen 2060 go for £100 or less though which is a good bargain.

I worked for Intel from 2005-2014, watching the tictok the whole time, getting new CPUs every year. My i5 3330 was used from 2012-2019 and likely is still being used somewhere, it was sold to fund my first Ryzen build. Although Ryzen has taken over my current household performance systems...AM4 is so upgradable..I still have a i5 2400 running daily in a office machine. I had a 3770k for a few years in there also and would use one again in a second. Those Sandy/Ivy bridge leaps were Intels last huge releases to me.

i don't really like "overclocked" charts. In my almost 30year experience using pc i have overclocked many CPUs, and my final conclusion is that you can do one of these things: 1) do a small overclock, almost unnoiceable, just by tooning an extra 100 to 200mhz on the base clock while using the default config, a mid to high end mobo and an aftermarket cooler. This will allow a minor boost beyond stock settings but wouldn't be taxing or produce a noiceable reduction in CPU and components lifespam 2) you can push a mid-tier overclock, by boosting 300 to 500mhz the default settings, and get a very good improvement, but asuming the extra cost in terms of high end motherboard and good cooling solution... but also asuming you will get components degradation after a couple of years, so don't really expect the Motherboard to work without any fail for 10+ years, also CPU will be degraded overtime making it hard to stay overclocked without throwing much voltage. This is the overclocking path many people take at least at some point in their enthusiast life... but the gain won't be enough to justify all the extra cost and trouble. 3) you can go extreme 600 to 1500mhz above stock (give or take depending on sillicon lotery, CPU model and generation), pretty much like in this video, and get outstanding charts, but working in an extremely unrealistic enviroment for anyone watching this, since you know that components will degrade very fast, and after 2/3 years your pc will be screaming in pain. Of course you can go from stock to OC'ed back and forth, but changing BIOS config all the time isn't the smartest move for anyone who has its workstation with most of family memorys and work and personal stuffs in it. well, at the end of the day... stock charts are the only ones relevant, since it is what 95% of the ppl will use anyway

I have an FX-8320 build that at stock was way out performing the i5-3450 system I built to replace it, everyone kept saying that the i5 was a lot faster. The i5 was slower, and the FX-8350 and FX-8370 were also slower than it running at stock. Turns out there was a significant difference between Windows and Linux for gaming on FX Processors and using Windows benchmarks was pointless. Tempted to test it to see how it's changed on the Linux side in the last 4 years but I only got 120GB and lower SSD's available. Got to test that later down the road. Got to replace CPU heat sink on a Opteron 1385 system first. Did my 3950X build after the 5950x launched, the priced dropped on the 3950x and all the scalpers bought up the 5950x. Then AMD started releasing more at a lower price shortly after the release with max buy limits and screwed over a lot of scalpers and that was funny as hell. I upgraded to the 5950x after the 7950x launched and the price dropped to under $400.

One thing to note is AMD cards of that era did not handle tessellation very well. Tessellation was primarily present in the OpenGL pipeline...and well Nvidia always handled OpenGL better. It was sort of like how ray tracing is today. When you look at it like that it's kind of incredible how the 390x even managed to come within 30% of the 1060 6GB in Heaven. It's also surprising to see it beat the RX570...well not that surprising since the RX 400 and 500 series cards while called "Polaris" were actually just GCN 4.

The .1% lows are horrid due to the cross-die latency since core 2 quads have 2 dual core dies on the same substrate. I assume a core 2 duo would perform worse overall but stutter a lot less.

Just a few very minor corrections: 1 - It IS actually an 8 core CPU, with 8 integer cores paired into modules sharing some cache and FPU. AMD was transparent about the CPU design and made this information available to DAY 1 reviewers. 2 - The Official RAM spec is NOT "up to 1866". It WAS DDR3 1866, and supported up to DDR3 2400. It would also support DDR3 as slow as 1066, but this harms performance. Otherwise I enjoyed this video.

welll technically it's still a capable GPU for 1080p gaming, it will somehow trade blows with Rx 580 8gb and just a little bit (5 to 10%) ahead of Rx 570 8gb. The problem is that it will consume 2x as power as the Rx 570 which is insane in the cost/performance. That being said, with a modest power-consuming CPU like a 65w TDP R5 1600 (to give an example) that will use the gpu at its best, the R9 390x will game pretty well at 1080p, and that for a total system consumption of less than 600w, which is around the same power consumption of an Fx8350 paired with an Rx 580 8gb (which is a way more common build). At the end of the day, there are too many Rx 570 and 580 out there, gpus that will perform around the same but with way less tdp and way better driver optimization, to really consider 390x as an option... but it is fun to know what's its current standpoint

CPUS haven't really advanced since the LGA1155 i5 2500 and i7 2600. Once 3.4 Ghz was obtained everything from that point was purely just a numbers game. Software for multi-thread processing, was still in its infancy until software developers began to how to use multi-threads CPU cores in modern gaming.... A i5 2500 or an i7 2600 are still very capable CPUs in 2024 and can be had for about $20 today.....

It was a good companion in my times when I was a student and couldn't afford an expensive rig.

Great video! I have an Alienware m14x r1. I upgraded it to 16Gb of ram and a 500GB SSD. It has an i7 2670QM and an Nvidia 555m graphics card in it. I was able to install Windows 11 on it and it runs fantastic! These old Alienware laptops have fantastic build quality and for everything but gaming now, my laptop from 2012 works perfectly fine! I encourage anyone who has one to push its limits and if someone who doesn't have one finds a good deal on one to get and enjoy it!

I had two of those in crossfire which almost doubled the performace. Both GPU's and the CPU are watercooled (Coolance) and running on an EVGA X58 Classified mobo. That 15 years old system is still being used today by a friend of mine.

If you want the ultimate P4 get a Pentium D, all it is a dual core P4.
