#drivewaycleaning #blockpaving #pressurewashing
I did my folks block paved driveway 3 years ago. Pressure washed, kiln dried sand and then sealed with 2 coats of wickes own block paving sealer. The sand is still intact, no stains and the colour is still good to this day.
Hey that's my job! :D Great work buddy
Omg I know this video is 1 year old but I have to say this is one of my absolute favorite videos on re-sanding I've ever seen! You clearly put plenty of sand down to make sure it goes down in those joints! I've watched countless videos and not one other person I've seen so far compares. They never put enough sand down and when they show the after shots u can clearly see that there's places that do not have enough. I have watched soooooo many videos bcuz its so satisfying anyways I absolutely 💯 love this stuff. I am glad I found your channel ☺ I am popping right over to subscribe as soon as im finished typing here 🤗 wow! Just sooooo so so impressed with you.
Its good to see that you re-filled the joints with kiln dried fine sand after the pressure washing. Too many people do or have done their driveways cleaned with a pressure washer without re-jointing it. The issue is that the pressure washer blasts the sand out of the joints that is critical for the stability and longevity of the paving. I have seen too many driveways that are loose and moving around caused by jet washing without replacing the sand and of course the weeds get a stronger hold in the joints that results in more concentration of the jet washing.
By far the best driveway paving is clay pavers, they don't need constant washing as they are impervious to soiling, organic or contaminants such as oil, A regular sweeping with a stiff broom and occasionally a wire brush for weeds is all that is needed. Clay pavers may be marginally more expensive to purchase, but the laying cost is the same as conc blocks and there is considerable savings on cleaning, replacing oil stain blocks, and sealing. Besides the natural material looks so much better.
Water proofs over wellies not tucked in! Great to watch someone else do one of the jobs i hate doing.
Brilliant
This brings me back to your videos of endless beam planing, but far less lengthy 🤣 good work
Ricky Banjo has competition, you need a sponge thumbs up hand to wave at the camera.
👏🏻👏🏻 No one can call you lazy!! Looks incredible
Definitely Resiblock sealer, but it aint cheap. Check it's suitable for your pavers - clay-concrete? it also sets the jointing sand hard so weeds can't grow, but make sure the sand is flush with the top of the pavers so there are no ruts, or dirt could settle in them and seeds can set. Does darken the colour of the pavers, just like when they get wet. It stopped weeds on my block paved drive for 8 years, but now needs reapplying.
Brilliant job. Glad you used what was on hand rather than purchase a new one. 👏🏻
If you use hydrochloride how did you apply it? I’m scared of using it. Our driveway is covered in lichen
The resanding process feels never ending sometimes doesn't it :D
Yep, thought to myself, I'll brush that in just before I leave. Barely managed 1/3 without wanting to throw the broom in the hedge! 😂
@@TheRestorationCouple xD it's genuine graft i hate it!
On the second day, why did you wet the blocks before pressure washing? Am I missing something?
I noted that too. I guess it just gives a bit of chance for the dirt to soften before you get to that patch?
that makes sense actually - it's probably that!
I wet it down before putting a weak mix of hypochlorite over to help with the spots. Not sure if needed but seemed to help, I scrubbed it in a bit too.
I used Kiln dried sand with a weed inhibiter and it kept the weeds down a treat.
I'd suggest the No Nonsense sealer from Screwfix.
i might look at that. ive struggled with many brands of sealant. i recently use a massive yellow drum full from everbuild. it just left a milk coloured stain on the blocks. i ensured there was no pooling so its very dissapointing when it takes a lot of time & effort
@@mattsidebottom7603 It sure does take quite a bit of time and effort. You can brush or spray some of them, if you found one easier. As it's been mentioned, the sealers can or should bind the Kiln Dried sand together that bit more too. Much cheaper, easier and less issues that some of the polymeric sands can have!
Hi Tim, when I glanced at this vid I thought it might be a driveway build. I'm struggling to find any DIY videos on youtube that walk through the process, any suggestions? One you'll do in the future perhaps?
Looks great, a nice satisfying job done 👍
If that drive is as old as you say whoever laid it did a good job looks really level still, not sunk where cars are parked
It’s all down to preparation, I went over the top and laid 12” of hardcore, then I had access to cinders and put 3” of this down and then sand. Put it down in 1988 and parked 7.5 ton on it a few times, still as good as new and it’s 70’ x 20,
Seems pretty good, settled in places around drains but the main section looks fine still.
You see where a car has been parked at 3:30.
@@frank1847 Good spot! Yeah that was the last section I went back and did. 👍
It's nice to see you re sand it after jet washing so many people blast away on their drive this blowing the same out of the joints and then either don't bother or don't know that they have to sand it again. 👍😀
The lengths we go through to get out of hanging out with the in-laws 😂🤫
Good job - surprised all the lichen washed off. Did you need the hypochlorite as well or did the pressure washer do it all?
Yes I did some hypo but to be honest even where I didn't the washer got it off, just seemed easier after soaking for a while with a weak hypo wash.
Was I just seeing things or was there a place off to the right where the pavers had sunk in. I thought I saw it during the overhead view. It was near the border closest to the grass. Timestamp 1:23 in he video
Yeah, it happens
couple of spots around drains where there was obviously some backfill before the drive was laid. I'll save that for a future job!
I just need to ask what type of pressure washer is it, and what is the bar pressure or psi ...
Its a Clarke, thats as much as I know. 😀Think it was Grandad's! Did the job great though.
Check out smart seal, I used the polyurethane one after the block magic and had my drive looking great even though it’s 25 years old
About to do mine to, anyone got suggestions on how to remove render for these driveways? Pervious builder drop some in spots and it’s been there for ages. Time to remove it!
Hi Tim, What product did you use?
Heh, I think we've used the same music for our steam washing timelapses on our channel. One of those UFO heads for the pressure washer supposedly does the job in a fraction of the time, cheap on amazon as well - I haven't tried one though. Not compatible with the temperature of our washer!
Great job Tim, just really hard to watch from a place where we rely on tank water. Watching that precious resource going on a driveway was quite painful!
great vid again, Tim. To all of you that are on the fence about the ISOtunes headset: definitely go for it. I bought one (and got a discount through this channel) and I absolutely love them 🙂
While you are washing with pressure washer taking away the layers of sands underneath of blocks .
Because you haven’t got enough to do I guess 🤷🏻♂️
Used 3 different sealers on our patio and block driveway and all 3 did sod all to stop green algae and black spot appearing over winter. South facing garden on natural stone. Easier just to pressure wash each year. Waste of money.
Tip for doing by garage without seal, I opened up and went from in the garage outward and was very little in garage.
You haven't seen the filing cabinets the other side! 😂
Have you tried one of the big spinning discs with multiple for clearing this type of thing? They seem quick and don’t leave the tell tale stripes. You can run your wacker plate over the sand to get it fully bedded in.
I wouldnt bother with a sealer ive used a few different brands and never been very impressed still end up having to pressure wash them again in a couple of years.
Content and brownie points with the in laws, double bubble
But not with the neighbours; rotating surface-cleaner attachment badly needed.
Yeah they look like they would be much better for the job 👍
block paving should/ and is best sealed after sanding and it will last for years use RESIBLOCK SUPERIOR two coats and recoat after 5 year wash all dirt off each year easily.
Good man
A job I do every year, and a witch of a job, forgot the sand last year and boys the moss etc made me pay. Still always looks the better for having it done.
👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 I just love a good power wash video...and then the teaser to show you have moved in to work shop...my day just turned out great 😂😂 until next video🙋🏻♀️🇬🇧💕jane
Your Dad?.
Just seen it ..sorry typing error late without glasses 🤓 🙄 😂
Check out the Bournemouth jet wash on TH-cam
Dope.
Resiblock 👌
Do not bother with sealing. Sand is more than good enough
Ricky Banjo looks a bit different these days!
sat
When you finished did you hit them up for £700 or was it £800?? You know, for the kids' university fees and all the extra time. 😉
Oh and Thompson Water Seal applied by sprayer.
😂 all I left them with was dirty windows! 😬 I did clean up after myself but that spray back gets everywhere!
To hunk people get paid for making videos like this. Think I’ll make one of me washing my car or maybe cleaning my windows.
Sorry, you should never power wash block paving as its the sand that locks it together NOT the pattern as so many believe. Re sanding helps but will never get back the original finish. After a career in this stuff I have seen so many sites ruined by pressure washing.
What are you meant to do then???
