Mrs. Karnazes (his mom) was my middle school English teacher in the late 80's. At that time, I remember her talking about how she ran 6 miles a day and thinking, how crazy! Apple doesn't fall far from the tree.

I come back to watch this documentary, or at least have it on in the background, every couple months...it's just so genuinely motivating and warming, not only because of Dean himself but because of all the "every-day" runners showcased here that are pushing through their own barriers. Reminds me why I love the hobby.

I'm doing streak running, running a mile (or more) a day, every day... doing it for some years now.
I love it, because the only goal is to run every day. I hardly ever think about speed or distance, before I start... and it becomes a habit. I don't need much willpower or motivation, to get on my feet, anymore.

He doesn’t seem introverted. Instantly responds well to attention or being looked at. Lunges forward to shake a hand or acknowledge. Easily converses with unacquainted people. Often addresses a crowd of people voluntarily. Hard to fake it that well and would be exhausting. Likes the center stage and is good at it. Announcing a big goal and getting attention ahead of accomplishing is extrovert.

@@TheCrazyCatHouse iit's not bragging its smart business marketing. He wants to run as a job full time. Do you know how much he makes from sponsorship deals per event like this? Crazy amounts. The only way this is possible is to keep relevant in a overly saturated market. He has to keep retelling these events to build to the next. It's how he brings in sponsors like The North Face, CLIFF BAR and so on. Open your mind up to what is in front of you and you will realise the world isnt as closed as you seem to think it is.

    • @paulmetcalfe2514

@ShiftCtrl85 I guarantee most people would rather work a 9 to 5 job for 10 years than run 50 marathons in 50 days, and how is his lifestyle unattainable? Or mean that he can't be a role model for other people? Who the fuck has an average Joe as a role model? People look up to high achievers and outliers. There are plenty of people out there doing extremely similar things and trying to spread a positive message, it's not unattainable. It certainly makes it a lot harder if you have a negative attitude towards positive messages and people getting paid to do the things they enjoy like you do. Saying that most people could be fit and healthy if they didn't have real responsibilities is the biggest cop out answer ever. There are literally millions of people all over the world who have families and work long arduous jobs and hold down a healthy lifestyle. You are not excused from being healthy if you are busy and it doesn't give you the right to belittle what he has done. If a fully able-bodied person is not fit and healthy, it's because they have chosen not be fit and healthy. Jesus Christ there are people with no legs that complete IronMan's for fun, give up the excuses.

It's such a pure joy to watch this documentary as we are under the Stay in Shelter order in NY. I am so inspired by Dean that I decided to run 13.1 miles a day on the treadmill or around my backyard with hope to go outside at some point for the next 50 days. It's certainly not as arduous as Dean's incredibly inspiring runs but I am stoke to take on this mighty challenge myself. As a bonus, I will make $2 donation for every mile I run to some of my favorite charities.

Okay never in my life have I seen a story like this, of course I heard about the 50 marathons in 50 days, after watching and the amount of work which went in I was now informed how this all went down. The inspiration, I am sorry is so overwhelming. The stories and miles he was blessed to share with some amazing humans was amazing. The most amazing was the mileage afterwards, and the apparent amount of stress not done to his body which you expect would be substantial. Whatever this guy does it's merely for him and him alone diet and whatever else, he's superhuman and literary BORN TO RUN! Amazing film and thank you for doing this!

I feel privileged to have gotten to meet Dean at Rancho la Puerta last year, where he was a guest presenter introducing his book “Road to Sparta”, and I was also presenter (performing chamber music). I started running late in life--almost 10 years ago at age 59-and Dean inspired me to try a marathon. When he signed my book he wrote “See you in Boston”. I signed up with a wonderful coach who was also there that week (Tom Flahavan) and to make a long story short I qualified for Boston on my marathon last August. Dean is a humble, gentle person with a delightful sense of humor, and the new book is both fascinating and eloquently written. I’m still wondering if he’ll really show up whenever Boston is eventually run! (Having doubts about this September.....). Martha Aarons

And it was mainly veg, not fruit. 80% veg, 15% fruit. They don't eat much else. Fun party people.

      Always put things in perspective:
There are people who can hardly run 50 SECONDS...
So, well done to you, too. 😉

1:10:00 diabetes is not caused by a lack of running.
Diabetes -type 2 - is caused by insulin resistance. Insulin resistance is caused by animal fat getting stuck in cells preventing insulin from doing its job. Fat clogging the cells is the one and only cause of type2 diabetes. Type1 diabetes is usually caused by toxins damaging the liver - like mold toxins etc.
The standard American diet causes lethargy and sickness and the human no
longer wants to move. Dean does not eat perfectly but he is not on the
standard American diet - cause he eats a lot of whole fruits and
    vegetables.

Have you ever had any problems with running on pavement or hard surfaces like that? Any injuries or anything, or does that not bother you? Do you run on pavement or dirt paths mostly? I've heard a person can get injured on hard surfaces.... I'm interested because I'm a runner, and I'm just trying to figure out what is the safest suffice to run on.
