    Wild... Ms. Dauwalter and Mr. Stanley were my middle school teachers and the cross country coaches. Ms. Dauwalter did an incredible job of fostering a true love for running and it's been incredible watching her grow since I left her classroom 5 years ago!

    I love this message. For me, running WAS the addiction. It was my chosen pain, that replaced the pain of depression. Now, I run because that is my choice, not to escape, but to embrace :-)

    Phew! I am 1 week away from my first marathon. Started training at 50 yrs age, BMI of 28, and took me 6 long months.
    Have sacrificed sleep,, Entertainment, with lots of running across trails and parks.
    Now, 6 months later, can't wait for it. Did 3 , 20 plus miles runs. BMI went down to 26 already.
    Wish me luck 🤞

      Well done. You are amazing and love your commitment. I understand as I was 2 months off turning 60 when I trekked Everest base camp via the 3 passes. Walked in very high altitude 4K to 5K meters above sea level for anything from 9 to10 hrs per day.

    As someone who runs ultra marathons (nowhere at this level) you know the person who won this video for me, the support person at around 20 minutes who said (when Cortney was leaving the station) "have fun". That's what you need when you are in that spot. You need someone to remind you that you love this stuff and you are out here by choice and to have fun. It just changes your mindset!!

    I'm here because of a short Joe Rogan interview I saw with Courtney. Her running achievements are ridiculous. You hear it. You read it. I watched it and I'm still dumbfounded by her greatness. She's unlocked a special pain thresh hold I don't understand. The best part, for me, is her humble, good nature. She could be a super next door neighbor or your kids teacher!

    That's crazy at the 181.5 mile marker (aid station) she says "I don't know how much fight I have left in me." and "I'm in a weird, weird space right now." She then sees Kyle catch up to her then it does look like the camera cuts for a moment then I love how she has that look in her eyes (something clicked in her at 27:26) once she sets down the Gatorade and then she says "Kev are you ready?" Such inner drive and inspiration!

    As a triathlon guy who has never been in first, I can't imagine how demotivated I'd feel to be out in front and then lose it. I think that her finishing sub 50 hours after losing that lead is a massive testament to her drive and dedication and fortitude. I think many other athletes would have called it after being in such a bad head space and then losing the lead. Many other athletes would have lost the drive to finish. She's an absolute beast.

  • @Sjudit84

    I donno why I started crying. But the whole crew is so down to Earth and she is so smiley and appreciative of life yet here she is doing an unfathomable amount of miles and makes it look like nothing. And people who can achieve so much...I am just in awe...
    And of course I also feel my own punity in the grand scheme of things as well.

If you lose all of them, you stop. Courtney has found a way to rally one or two of these things to overcome being down in the other. Amazing.

      She's probably amongst the strongest athletes alive? Are you kidding me? This lady crushed all the other racers in a race that was 240 miles long. Wiped the floor with them by beating them 10 hours ahead. She isn't human. She's super human and super humble.

      Hi Rose, thank you for watching the film. We're so glad to hear you enjoyed seeing the behind the scenes of the struggle that went into this race. We also felt that by showing the reality of how hard this race was with stomach problems, etc. it would allow you to really process how deep she can dig. It's great to hear you experienced that from the film.

    What's amazing to me is WHERE the 200 miles was completed! I've been mountain biking in that area around Tahoe, and it is unforgiving in many ways. Running 200 miles on a track or on a flat, groomed course like gravel or something is NOTHING compared to this venture right here. Astonishing.I love that her highschool coach came to watch her. My junior high coach came to the Olympic Marathon Trials in 1996 when I ran; it was a really cool thing. :)

      easy...this is impressive but lets be fair, no african runners do these events because there is no money in it. They stick to the big city marathons and the best marathon runners in the world can hold low FOUR minute miles for 26miles, *that* is inhuman. They would comfortably destroy Courtneys times. Nevertheless her spirit and dedication are inspiring.

    • @bpetersson5024
      @bpetersson5024 5 ปีที่แล้ว +21

      you have a point, but its a completely different type of running and I am not sure the Africans, or pure track athletes like Rupp, would survive a 240 mile race with 30k ft of elevation gain. The African presence in track is more a matter of easy access than the money, because the competition in track is intense. But in terms of pure athletic effort, if you challenge both track and trail people to do both types of races, I would bet the combined results would favor the trail runners. Track is purely physiological, with some drug enhancing thrown in, perhaps. Training to survive 240 miles and do it in 57 hours is purely mental with a lot of technique thrown in. @@patrickharrison1913

    • @jsplit9716
      @jsplit9716 5 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      @@bpetersson5024 the thing is the mindset of these african runners is very sturdy. They grew up with nothing, for them "going in the pain cave and being okay with it" is part of normal life. Remember, some of their parents even still hunted by running down animals. If there was enough money in it they would crush these races.

      @@patrickharrison1913 well the one you forget is that they are training for a marathon. We don't know how fast Courtney could run a marathon if that's what she trained for. A 26.2 Mile road race is different from a 100 mile trail race

    I achieved 16:07 on a treadmill last week and I am training for a 5k competition. I normally do lots of HIIT (minimum 3 times a week). I do 2 sessions a day. During my lunch break 5k tempo run and in the evening i normally do HIIT (10x400 at 21km/h +). I started doing 5-6x1k at 3 min pace twice a week. I used to do long runs but i find HIIT so much more beneficial - my overall performance improved exponentially, my testosterone level skyrocketed as well.
