Living in Australia, I can't really comprehend the low temps you have to deal with in winter. Some really good advice here. Have a safe winter.
I watch your videos for the weird form of relaxation they afford. I also watch to help a uk based business during these weird times we now sadly live in. I must say though that I found everything you spoke about quite eye opening and gave me much to think about. Thank you for taking time out of your day to produce these videos Sid. I subscribed last week after finding you randomly placed on my home page (thank you algorithms). I’ve been working my way back through your videos and have enjoyed all - always leave a like! Wishing health, wealth and happiness to an Englishman (and his young family) from a disabled Scottish woman who particularly appreciated your mentioning rock salt!! 👍🏻
Here, a lot of the guys put up and take down Christmas decorations in early December and early January too. A lot of us want decorations, but just can’t do the physical climbing anymore. $900 paid last year🤷🏻♀️

Really good tips! I would add, pace yourself, don’t worry too much, because someone will always need a roof looked after. You keep up with advertising and somehow it will stay in the back of someone’s mind, and they’ll remember to ring you and book you in.
A other idea for the cold month is to have a snow/ice service.
It can be as simple as using a snow shovel, broom, rock salt and a smile. Clear the driveways for people at there home or shop front. It's often a nice little money maker for those few days your normal job is just not possible. Plus you still be able to speak with those costumers and recommend your other jobs for when the weather goes warmer again.
You might only be able to charge a few bucks per costumer. but enough of them can still make your day more profitable then doing nothing.
Even if you’re making 4k a month in winter it’s worth it
Over here in Finland it gets really cold and dark during the winter, and that affects exchange students a lot. They too get adviced to start taking vitamin D. Even though those winters aren't new to me, I also have to take vitamins nowadays. If I don't, eventually I'll be too tired through the days no matter how much I sleep, which then affects the motivation. I started taking the multivitamin pill with my morning coffee year around and haven't had an issue since. Maybe that's something people out there who get tired and lack motivation during dark winters could try too
I'm not normal: this is the only time I'm thriving. So spiritual, so cozy, so calm. Everything is calmer. In sunny time of the year I feel exposed, uneasy, everybody moves and it's so god damn hot... I prefer doing physical labor in cold and wet rather then hot and dry, as well.
If you like fish eat more of it in the winter, full of vitamin D

Just a note regarding freezing water in wfp work, you can add isopropanol without affecting the water quality, get mine from window cleaning warehouse 👍🏻

Really informative video. Makes me appreciate how hard the work is. I will keep that in mind for my jobs n the States. I’m elderly and it is much harder for me to do my own jobs so now using contract work. Helps me ask detail questions before hiring a contractor.

Great video. Got to keep thinking the glass is half full and remain positive as the winter months (dec-feb) are tough. I'm exactly the same though, it's not the reduced income, it's the reduced work and sitting at home some days that do my head in!

A good tip in the winter is offer a service of putting up peoples outdoor Christmas decorations a lot of cleaning businesses locally to me offer this service and it’s a great way to keep an income coming in mate when it goes quiet mate 😊😊
Winter is hard for me as a flower grower/florist and I usually close. Hard times. But it bounces back quickly in jut Spring. Thanks for great content as usual 😊
Lots of people would still want Christmas/winter decor in their house ie. dried foliage, wreaths, table scapes etc, lots of people do it. They’re going to the clients house with all of the stuff that they think they would need and organise (decorate) it. Maybe in-house workshops? Kids as well would love those, something easy to make for christmas, early spring decoration. At my workplace we get flowers every Monday, all year-round. Just couple of ideas :)
This topic sounds familiar lol! Our time falls back this coming Sunday the 7th and will be dark by 530pm! We've already had below freezing temps...I don't like winter! Take care and stay healthy!

Great informative video. With regards to roof cleaning in the winter, a pressure washer with a hotbox or a dedicated steam cleaner would allow you to carry on? As it would not matter if the moss is frozen, the high temperature would still clean it.

Great tips there Sid👌👍 Has you know my main trade is Carpet & Upholstery cleaning with Gutter clearing bolted on to my business. I'm booked nearly up for November for gutter clearing/cleaning plus i get asked if i could do pressure washing which i have just bought the same as your old one (Wilks) just to see how it goes.. A physical job like window and roof cleaning is very tiring. It's no harm to have a couple of months rest. A know a few window cleaners who pretty much take a break in winter, apart from a base commercial route a few mornings per week. I'm not a full-time window cleaner and after 5.5hrs of window cleaning yesterday, I was exhausted LOL
One option would be to offer carpet cleaning services - it's all indoor and with a good machine, you can do pretty good

Hi Sid, thanks again for another informative video. With regards to the gutter cleaning, do you find the gutter vac is powerful enough to clear the down pipes without having to take them apart if blocked?. Many thanks.
So far yes, I havnt had any issues but im sure eventually ill come across some that are a bit too backed up, rare occasion though im sure

Here in New England in the US most people who do work like yours end up doing snow plowing and other work like that. None of the jobs are fun in the cold, that’s for sure.
Hi Sid...Do you think one could get away with doing gutter cleaning without the machine and just do it with a scoop and a bucket or can you recommend a reasonable price vacuum machine.Thanks.
Cold weather is not our friend :) I have a small oil radiator ready for the cold nights :)

Carpet cleaning is the same way- it stops dead Thanksgiving week (11/25) and doesn’t start again until at least Feb. 1!

to be honest i run quite hot as soon as i start working but tracksuit bottoms under my trousers and two hoodies and im all good :D If im doing a roof in december im usually in my tshirt after i've set up the scaffolding haha.
i have a superdry jacket thats great for the windy days though i love that jacket. Gloves are just a nightmare i've never found a good waterproof pair that last. Magnum army boots are golden for cold weather

Winter is as busy if not busier than summer we find
I’m dead the opposite I am more productive and happier to work in the cold months than summer months..
Luckily I have 200+ regular customers (window cleaning) that support me all year round.
However I do pick up a lot of gutter cleaning throughout the winter months on top which is always a bonus.
Hope we have a dry crisp winters day on the 6th December

Also I definitely don't clean windows I pay window cleaners as you wouldn't catch me cleaning windows for 8 pound a house .

Just wondering Sid if you do carpet & upholstery cleaning during the winter? BTW I was watching a guy pressure washing the roof of a house opposite me today. No goggles, no hi-viz, no safety helmet and he was standing on top of the roof. At one point he was sitting on the middle of the roof spraying both upwards & downwards! Scary stuff to watch.
According to Tradman screen wash in your water will stop it from freezing that's for window cleaning
or add vodka. however people might look odd if you are haling bottles full of them at 8:00.

You mean Hypochlorite from farm sales shops 😂
A 25litre drum of Hypochlorite is about £25 from farm merchants, does a frighteningly good job.
No I mean biocide which is used for roof cleaning which is over £100 per 5L

honestly everyone uses diluted Hypochlorite,
It’s evil stuff so only use about 1litre to 5 litres dilution,
I do my patio once a year put it on with sprayer leave it and it’ll take it back to new brick,
It’s basically patio cleaner but super concentrate.
