Israeli Palestinian Debate Turns To Family Reunion

- Outside of the 2020 AIPAC Policy conference, protesters showed up marching against Israel from a variety of different backgrounds and perspectives.
We decided to engage with different voices to either expose their anti-Semitism or to hold nuanced genuine conversations aimed at humanizing both Israeli and Palestinians, all while finding common ground.
The Palestinian activist featured in the video immediately recognized me and was excited to engage with my positions.
The conversation started the way most politically charged and polarized debates do, by regurgitating as many pre-planned trigger lines with the intention of demonizing and delegitimize Israel's existence.
Although there were plenty of historically and factually inaccurate statements made, my objective was not to intellectually outsmart and expose my Palestinian counter part. My objective was to break down the psychological walls that exist between Israelis and Palestinians that prevent us from communication. Walls that have kept both of our peoples trapped in a perpetual ongoing ideologic and physical war.
Thankfully, after realizing that I wasn't there to fight him nor to antagonize his narrative, identity and experiences, he began to open up. It sometimes takes a bit of work to break down the separation that we've been conditioned to know as the only reality possible. Isn't it time that we stop fighting the other and allow the next generation to build a reality together?
If you are reading this, it's time to pay attention. There is no future without either population. If you are Israeli or Palestinian realize that we hold our future in our hands and it's time we built that reality together as one.

As an Israeli, this video made me so emotional because when you watch conversations like this its makes you believe that there is a chance, even if its a small chance for both of us people living together in peace. we just need to communicate.

As an American Jew I never really considered Israel my home but Rudy has made me realize that I have more of a connection to Israel than I thought. It's been a long time since I visit and maybe its time to go again.

In a way, as an American mine too. I’m torn on this because I consider Israel a friend and want them to continue to succeed, but at the same time I want my government to stop getting involved in the Middle East. I’m okay with Israel telling us “thanks, but no thanks” on aid but I don’t want the nation to be crushed either. If Israelis and Arabs/Palestinians can resolve this conflict on their own I’m for it.

It hurts my heart when he says we Israeli kill their kids, when i was in Gaza back in my serving days, I've seen these terrorists pulling kids that went from school to home as human shield hiding behind them so we can't shoot them, then gave them grenades and weapons to shoot us.
That kid was barely 8 years old, forced to hold an AK-47 against a tank, he couldn't even lift the damn thing.
they threw grenades at us and we didn't shoot them back because they were kids but as soldier you've been taught to shoot down who ever is trying to kill you, because you are an army's property and you have to defend it.
I went to trial because of not shooting back to defend my self and exposing my team mates to danger.
Now what about them blowing up our civilian buses? Restaurants? Pubs? Clubs? Bus stations? Synagogues? sending blow up balloons in air with "presents"? Does those acts don't kill our children?
We need to stop listening to Media and Government and start talking to each other, they want us to fight their fights and make them money on our bodies, our families!
What does man need? a piece of land for his family and a decent job, we don't need these wars.
I cant remember the last time someone has blown up your buses or synagogue or school as you said. But the very opposite is true. What about israeli snipers who shot dead many civilians including kids and women at the fence of gaza including the beautiful young palestinian nurse Rouzan al Najjar?

What I wonder about every time I see the debates, is why people don’t know history...? Why does this "Palestinian" guy, sound so American? Just a bet baffled about that. Also, why is it so difficult for Palestinians to recognize a history outside of what they have been taught themselves? Was this guy muslim? Likely so. Is he able to view anything outside of what his faith teaches him? I'm trying to learn myself, as an outsider who passionately, supports Jews and Israel. I'm a little saddened that you say Westerners should not get involved; yes, seeing as we don't live there; on that level you are correct; but seeing as you need outside support so much, it does not seem right to silence us at the same time. I come out of a christian background myself, and you know how people are taught about Jews from that perspective, and some of the strongest supporters Jews and Israel have right now, are Christians who firmly and passionately, believe that Jews have a God Given right to that place. That creates passionate support there, good or bad.
I keep hearing about this all the times, about Jews killing Palestinians, and being an outsider I don't know how to respond to that one. I expect, I hope, the only time that happens is when it's a situation where some Palestinian person has shown themselves to be a threat to Israel. Suicide bombers and that sort of thing. Naturally, you are not going around killing Palestinians indiscriminately, for no good reason, as this side almost, makes it seem.
