Far-Right Sweden Democrats poised to play huge part in Sweden's next government | DW News

  • In an election sweep that came as a shock to some, the right-wing Sweden Democrats are now poised to be part of the governing coalition. As Europe awaits Swedish election results that balance on a knife's edge, some are asking: How did this happen? In Sweden, a bastion of tolerance, a nationalist and anti-immigrant party is on the cusp of joining a right-wing coalition in government. A look at the party's origins and trajectory provides some answers. What is the current state of election results? On Sunday, Sweden held nationwide elections for its legislature, the Riksdag. Although 99.9% of the vote has now been counted, a winner has not yet been officially declared.
    Exit polls Sunday night initially indicated victory for the Social Democrats' center-left coalition, which has been in power since 2014. But as vote-counting progressed, the right-wing bloc consisting of the Liberals, Christian Democrats, Moderates and Sweden Democrats is on track to win, currently with 49.5% of the vote. The left-wing coalition has 48.8% of the vote. Social Democrat Prime Minister Magdalena Andersson has already conceded defeat. While final results are expected at any moment, the Social Democrats have so far received the largest percentage of votes at 30.3%. Currently, the Sweden Democrats are the second-strongest party, gaining 20.5% of the vote in their best-ever election performance. That makes them the biggest party on the right, in front of the Moderates who came as a close third with 19.1%.
    The cliffhanger election is not expected to be resolved until all postal and absentee ballots are counted.

    As an immigrant in Germany, i would say uncontrol immigration is bad.

      You might be a good immigrant but it seems to be kind of hit and miss. For some Immigration is a kind of way to take their revenge on western countries that destroyed their home. Maybe if NATO didn't wreck their homes to begin with they wouldn't have this sentiment.

      Sweden has long been considered one of the most boring countries in the world. Many people see it as a country where there is not much exciting to do. There is no possibility to go to a casino and play slots or participate in a poker tournament. There are also no large amusement parks or water parks where you can have fun with family and friends. Instead, people here spend large parts of their time working and paying taxes. On average, a person in Sweden works 8 hours a week and a large part of the salary goes to paying taxes. This means that once you retire, you are usually too old to do the things you always dreamed of doing. It is as if one has been deprived of the opportunity to live one's life to the fullest.

      The moment I stepped into that room, I swear it was like entering an alternate reality. For many, Sweden is synonymous with a high standard of living and welfare. But it is also a country where everything is expensive. The prices of food, accommodation and other necessities are often higher than in many other countries. This makes it difficult for ordinary people to live the so-called 'American dream' of working hard and then enjoying a comfortable and luxurious life. Instead, many struggle to get the economy together and to be able to live a reasonable life in Sweden.

      @Wildminecraftwolf ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I mean you could look at it that way, but if its killers killing killers, then im fine with that. You have to have a solid conceptualization of evil to understand this viewpoint tho. Some people are truly beyond redemption. If they want to live by the gun, let them die by the gun. Gangs are just playing their own game in their own world and thats how they want to live their life. Offer them a chance to leave and they wont. Its who they are now so leave them be, let them kill eachother. Police should only be there to step in when they start "playing" their game with people who never signed up to be in their game. Its the culture and economies job to keep the youth out of the gangs, not the police. Legalising drugs, good support systems for addicts, and a saftey net for the population and the gangs will start to kill eachother faster then new members can join and they will become extinct. The solution is not to fight fire with fire, violence with violence, police V criminal. It hasnt, isnt and will not work.

      I'm pretty left when it comes to most economic questions, but im also for a restrictive immigration policy, why? Because i feel like if i want us to keep the welfare state that we have here in Sweden, then we cant increase the number of people not working, the welfare state will collapse if to many take out of the system and to few put into the system.
      So my immigration critique is inherently left-wing in it's reasoning. I want to protect our liberal social democracy by restricting immigration.

      It is a term often used to describe crime that is considered to be linked to poverty and social problems. It is a problematic concept because it contributes to creating stigma and stereotypes around people who live in vulnerable areas or have a low income. Instead of understanding and addressing the underlying structural causes of crime, society tends to blame the problem on the individual and their socio-economic background. It is important to understand that crime is not a simple matter that can be explained by a person's socio-economic status. There are many factors at play, such as social conditions, mental health, level of education and access to resources and opportunities. By focusing solely on low socio-economic backgrounds as the main cause of crime, the complex underlying problems are minimized and overlooked. Furthermore, the use of the term 'welfare crime' leads to society missing the opportunity to address the real causes of crime and instead focusing on punishing and excluding the most vulnerable groups in society. It's time we as a society take a step back and start looking at crime as a result of structural problems and inequalities, instead of using it as an excuse to continue to stigmatize and marginalize certain groups. We need to work together to create a more just and inclusive society where all people have the same opportunities and resources to live a good life. Only then can we begin to fight crime effectively and create a safer and more harmonious world for everyone. Let's stop using the word 'welfare crime' and instead focus on creating fair and equal conditions for all.

    As a Swede and lived in some other countries. I can clearly say that right wing in Sweden is on the same level as many other countries left wing parties. All parties in Sweden is more or less socialistic.

      @erik bengt yeeh, you are wrong but you probably haven't lived in another country so you don't know the difference. I have for example been living in Poland for some years. Polish Pis and Sweden democrats are light years from each other when comparing nationalism and the view on immigrants. Polish left wings have more of the same view on immigrants as Sweden democrats. And Sweden democrats are a high tax party, as well as even Moderaterna compared with other countries. It doesn't exist any low taxes and small government parties in Sweden. All parties in Sweden are "Sossar" more or less, for example, do all of them accept high taxes and a huge and ineffective welfare system.

      @erik bengt interesting, you suddenly set a rule whom to compare with because you realised you can't argue otherwise. The whole West Europe is socialistic to start with. So comparing a bunch of socialist countries is not interesting. At least I'm interested in the whole world when comparing, which is more than western Europe. Have a good evening!
