    Just rolled over 10,000kms in the LDV T60 MAX Ute last week so thought I'd do a car owner's review of what I personally like, dislike and have experienced with the T60.
    It's known internationally from Saic Motor Corp Ltd. as a Maxus T90 and and goes hard in places like Malaysia as an MG Extender but here in Western Australia I bought it as an LDV T60Max Luxe in late 2022. On Road and Off Road, it's been 4wding on various 4x4 tracks and ODA, towing and used as a daily all the way up to 10,000 kilometres or 6,200 miles if you're watching from the US.
    When buying the T60 I looked at the other Utes in this segment and found them to be all fairly competitive but the T60 was the Ute of choice for me, only pipping the Mahindra 4X4 PIKUP because of a few creature comforts and with the power it looked like I could have some fun. I also considered the GWM Ute Cannon and the Ssangyong Musso.
    Naturally I also looked at the Toyota Hilux, The New Ford Ranger, Mitsubishi Triton and the Isuzu DMAX but couldn't personally justify the spend on these vehicles. Not when there's so much on offer at the lower end of the dual cab price range from China and India in the Australian marketplace right now.
    Super keen to see what the Hyundai Santa Cruz does to the Aussie Ute Market soon too!
    If you've got any questions for my first 2023 review for You Tube, ask away in the comments and I'll get back to you. And sorry no BTS on this video although there were plenty of mess ups.
    Either way and as always, Thanks for Watching!

    High respect to the host for having the patience to diplomatically reply harsh comments thrown here. Chinese brands are certainly learning fast but in most developed countries like Australia, aftersales it seems is still down to the dealers. For countries where consumer rights is as strong as melted candy, having a responsive distributor is the only way for the brand to move forward. The real issue with Chinese brands is that we do not have any strong evidence of user history. It is not all about the products, but aftersales, responsiblity for recalls and advancement in technology determine the longevity of any automotive products. Of course unless you have a bunch of consumers who believe cheap products are the best in the world and other brands are just suckers for having high prices.

      Thankyou. And you’ve hit the nail on the head! In an original edit I had a segment on choosing your dealer before the car because after sales support is important. I’ve got a great dealer and service department who make me feel welcome. They’ve taken me out the back and shown me under the car on the hoist so I understand more. Great team. So after sales is sorted well for me. Choose your dealer is my message!
      Time will tell with these young motor corporations around recalls and updates. The improvements between models so far in LDV have been welcome, evidence of them learning fast. But yes without mass consumer use learnings will be limited and based more of imitation than information.
      I think there’s also going to be an element of those who are fed up of paying the high prices of Japanese/Taiwanese built dual cabs. Personally I’d love a big 79 or a Y62 patrol, one of those RAMs would look good in my driveway too. But in the meantime, I’m having fun in the T60.
      Thank you for watching, reading and commenting. 🙏

      Well I am not sure there are many brands in Australia covering themselves in glory when it comes to customer service...... Toyota with Hilux had huge DPF issues that remained unaddressed for years and then there is Jeep which has a God awful history of treatment of its customers and then Volkswagen lied about pollution and the Ford Fiesta gearbox was a disaster that took years for Ford to address....... apart from that all good😢.

    • @jay-fl4pv
      @jay-fl4pv 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Chinese cars are so cheap that good after service is not possible. Buy one and see for yourself. Toyota and a few big companies at least look after in some ways and fix issues.
      Chinese technology is copied or bought, most likely. Ssangyong company sold to India and sold to China, then Korea company got it back. Everything will be cheaper to compete with other companies, which is the only way. Chinese cars won't at last. Do you see any old Chinese car on the road. But there is old Toyota or even old ssangyong musso on road.

    Anything will an LDV badge that’s 2019 or below will rust away in no time stick… however since then they have addressed this and have really stepped up their game in the way of quality and build. I love the reviews absolutely. I am planning to buy t60 2023 max lux blue colour as I have always loved Ute. Thought of buying this. Just wanted to ask is LDV reliable for you if you maintain it well?

    • @DiceyRicey
      @DiceyRicey  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      The blue looks fantastic! Very vibrant.
      I use the T60 everyday for work and family duties during the week. And as you can see around the channel on the weekends I get it going off-road.
      Aside from the issues mentioned in the review I’ve had a wheel weight fall off, needed a re-balance and I’ve got a replacement belt on the way as mine squeaks when cold.
      However, it starts every time and drives wherever I point it. Recently it drove 4 hours, 400km to do 6 hours of off-roading in the Julimar State Forest before driving the return 400km back home in the same day.
      It’s reliable enough for me!
      Jump onto some of the Facebook groups for the LDV T60 though. There’s a few people with some issues but I think majority would agree it starts first time every time so far!

    This one does seem a lot better than the 2020 models. My work has about four and I've driven all of them. With the 2020 model there are alot of issues 1. Suspension ruff as guts my tack use drift car is more comfy lol. 2. Rust all over them on all of the t60's we have everyone of them has rust luckily the dealership has taken it under warranty just waiting to be fixed. 3. We had 2 loose a turbo within 50,000. Headlights from factory they are wound up to the highest point making other drivers blinded which can be wound down to fix though but high beams are non existent. And the one that annoys me the most every time you turn the car on the radio goes to 10 which is loud. We have had other issues too that I cant remember right now. But its good to see they have fixed some of the issues with the newer models at least

    • @DiceyRicey

      I’d heard and read a few things (issues) about the earlier model, in particular the models before the trail rider and TR2.
      I reckon the next generation of T60 will be the one to watch. Chinese car companies, especially SAIC, have evolved fairly rapidly between generations.
      Keen to see what happens over the next 5 years with the auto market in Australia. Hopefully it’s for the best!

      Hmm, don’t quote me on it but I’ve read that previous models and makes coming from China were utilising recycled metal which could have impurities that in turn could cause rust. That’s how rust was forming underneath the paint.
      The rust issue with the T60MAX does not seem to be present. Personally I still go for a search around my car for rust or bubbles on the regular (#paranoid) but there’s nothing to be seen! 🤙
      I’ve got a video coming out in a couple of weeks about oxidisation and corrosion. Check back then if you’re interested.. or Y’know bust a like and subscribe.

    Just done 10,000k, I love it. I tow a 27 foot 5th wheeler it does it on it's ear. One major problem I've incurred. Drove home from up town shopping, wheeled into my garage and shut her down. Turbo cooler fan kept running even though it wasn't even warmed up from such a short run, but they all do.
    IT THEN CAUGHT ON FIRE AND DESTROYED EVERYTHING FROM THE DASHBOARD FORWARD.
    Signs of the centre of the blaze showed to be at the driver's side front corner at the turbo cooling fan.

      Great question! I don’t know the answer yet. I’ll see what I can find out and circle back to you this week.

    • @DiceyRicey
      @DiceyRicey  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Well, it’s been a week and I’m afraid I haven’t been able to turn anything up yet regarding galvanisation on the T60.
      I’ve not received a response from Ateco or LDV however the dealer is going to check with the rep.
      I used AI to search the web for galvanised body and chassis on the Ldv T60 Max. It initially turned up results from Carsguide and drive where their reviews stated a galvanised chassis and body. However I could not find it myself.
      Incidentally there appears to be only a few cars that are hot dip galvanised and I couldn’t find any details on hot dipped galvanising for say a Hilux. There does appear to be some form of non-reactive coating on the steel under the car which would prevent moisture but only where it has been applied.
      Interestingly I found an article dated March 20, 2023 by Neerav Bhatt, that states that all MG cars in Australia are “fully galvanised”. With MG and LDV both part of SAIC motors, perhaps there is some level of electroplating going on.
      That article is here: www.bhatt.id.au/blog/mg-australia-confirms-current-range-of-cars-fully-galvanised/
      In conclusion, I’m still searching.

    Ive got a 2023 since end of April and have already done 32,000ks in it. Only drama I have had was a heater hose split and spat all the coolant. The heads up display gave me a warning and LDV organised a tow truck to their shop. I highly rate mine, but that lag when you go to take off from stop is annoying as. Reckon I will put a throttle controller on it to try and resolve, but it has heaps of power and great efficiency.

    I noticed that you're close to the ocean, so I'd be interested to know if you've had any rust issues, i.e. if you've noticed any traces of rust in the more concealed parts of the ute's bodywork, especially where panels or body parts are bolted together. There was a recent story doing the rounds in the media where a GWM ute owner living close to the ocean, with all the salt in the air and whatnot having brought to the surface the substandard undercoating and rust prevention manufacturing treatment on his vehicle. Chinese car brands, by virtue of their short history in the Australian car market, play the underdog card, so I'm curious to find out if their recent popularity is proof of their true value for money, or an act of rebellion from the Australian consumers tired of all the crap more established badges have been able to dish out because of lack of decent competition. On the face value of it, your positive review should make the rest of us think twice about still doubting the Chinese brands, but is your experience the norm or the exception? Have these new brands, like LDV and GWM, gotten their basics right yet, or is their aggressive pricing still masking basic problems? In the case of the dissatisfied GWM ute owner, his dealer's dishonest attempt to deny him his consumer rights is what had brought the story to the public's attention in the first place, whereas you dealer seemed to have been ready to remedy your ute's issues without any fuss, so this naturally raises the question of how good and willing are the Chinese brand's dealers, in general, at resolving any after-sale quality control issues. Your review is welcomed, but single-handedly having taken on the responsibility of becoming an unofficial brand ambassador is not without risks, especially if owning an LDV turns out to be a very different experience for others who then may turn around and not only unfairly dispute the validity of your review, but also question your integrity, and that's a very big burden to take on your own.

    • @DiceyRicey
      @DiceyRicey  ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Howdy thanks for watching and commenting.
      Regarding rust in the panels, roughly a week before doing the bulk of the footage in this review I cleaned and did another ceramic coat. I did not notice any rust in any of the panels. However, when I fitted the Bash plates there were a few oxidised bolt heads which I replaced with stainless steal and I noticed oxidisation on two weld spots up the front of the vehicle. I’ve looked into rust protection which would be advised by most dealers around here and was advised by mine, I have yet to apply it. I didn’t observe any rust corrosion though.
      I’ve mentioned a few times online that the dealer is as important as the car. The aftersales support I’ve had from my dealer has been great. They’ve been responsive and positive throughout so my issues that I’ve raised have felt minor. Choose your dealer when you’re buying a car has been my suggestion.
      Are people likely to have a different experience to mine? Sure! This is a review of my ownership of the T60 and I reckon a few people would question the integrity of my review and that is probably wise. That approach will only lead to more research and a more informed experience for them.
      So yes to surface oxidisation at this stage, choose your dealer when you choose your car because after sales support is important and treat this review as a piece in the research puzzle.
      Hopefully that helps a bit?

      Chances are the engine or gear box will fail on these Chinese cars before the rust hits, for 37k you would find a good 70, 80 or 105 series Landcruiser or a GU/GQ patrol you can find all of these in a chopped ute or factory ute on some and will last 10x longer than Chinese crap and still have some beer money left over and the warranty on Chinese cars isn't worth the paper its written on. I live on the beach about 50m away from the sand and the older 4wds have a lot less rust than the newer 4wds thicker panels proper rust treatment. My old 4wds have minimal rust issues and all have over 400,000km on them and any rust they get is easy to remove or get fixed by a professional. Places me or my neighbours have worked for have cheeped out on theses Chinese utes or similar shit utes like tritons, rangers or Colorado's if your a small business owner or looking for a decent 4wd that will still be running in 5-10 years time and be reliable get something that will last if your looking for a tax write off get a cheap Chinese piece off crap.

      I had a Quad RAM for 2 years, dragged a 3ton CV around Aus twice and we only got rid of it when we wanted to go the MotorHome option. Towing, the RAM was perfect 20lt/100 and around town it was 12lt/100. Off road we did a lot of soft sand stuff and it never got bogged even on standard tyres. And were talking Jurien Bay talcon powder sand not the compact stuff that you can drive a Falcon on. Only off road issue is its slightly wider than the general tracks so your always heading across cambers and getting scratched on tight tracks. Only mechanical issue was after getting a bar fitted they (off road animal) didn't seal the bulk head properly so water was getting onto the main ECU under the dash. The truck was out of commission for a bit of time because it took a long time to find the issue, ie: it only happened after it rained and we live in WA. Would love another one but $85K for a 2018 is just too much is we arn't going to use for towing. @@JimmyNZC evidence? I can’t give you something directly but I have read that they have lifted their game in relation to the metal they were using and the protection they for using AND when I saw a dealer 8 months ago and asked about the issue. There is a warranty on it as well. I believe they used cheaper materials in the past 20-21 and changed their ways.
      I have 2 x 2022 models and have kept an eye on them. My business works very close to the surf industry and to date have not seen any signs of rust / bubbling / signs of poor materials in relation to the metal. I think there has been a few law suits for that reason and LDV responded by changing their ways.

      No no, my bowels remained in control despite my actuator flap issue.
      I probably could’ve worded it better in the video.
      The Actuator flap I’m referring too is the acoustic flap which is controlled by an actuator. It is a group of components that are part of the exhaust system. Located roughly half way down the exhaust under the T60 on the right hand side.
      My flap, I should say the T60’s flap, was making a metal on metal squeak which I referred to in the video as an “Actuator Flap”.
      So, no loose bowels. 👌

      Ah yes, they’re no Japanese engine although a lot of the mechanicals are German and I read that the engine is Italian. Probably not Lamborghini quality though unless it’s one of their tractor engines as the T60 does sound a bit agricultural.
      Thankfully mine has not had any rust problems from new and their seems to be little rust issues with the latest models although the previous models have seen some rust issues for sure!
      Currently Re-sale value for any car is very strong thanks to the long wait times, although a return to a pre-COVID car sales environment would see the value of these things drop considerably vs. something like a Hilux.

      Gosh if my track record wasn't to get a new car every few years it'd be interesting to see if I could get 33 years out of it. Although I, like you, don't think it could do 33 years of off roading. They aren't there yet!
      Regarding your 80 series, done any mods to it? Or have you kept it pretty stock? The older cars a great for modifying due to the low level of standard safety kit. For example, I'm limited to what sort of bar work I could install on the T60 because of the front and side airbag deployment. Also limited on lift height because of ESC. This applies to most modern 4WDs now, the mainstream brands have companies like ARB working on ADR compliant mods with urgency, but do you reckon with all the tech in 4WDs these days, especially with the incoming wave of hybrids, will any of them last as long as an 60/80, GQ/GU?

      Hey Ricey. Apart from the question about long term reliability especially driving it as any other (Japanese) 4WD owner would e.g. towing a caravan, 4 wheeling, sand driving, remote touring etc., I’d be interested in what you get on the resale of Chinese vehicles and hence, the depreciation.
      Also, similar to Hyundai and Kia when they first came out, the early models were a bit ‘how ya goin?’ especially past around 50K kms (ala Hyundai Excel), I suspect that it will be quite some time before the Chinese cars prove themselves to be viable contenders in comparison to the tried and proven Japanese 4WDs.
      Perhaps it’s already been done in TH-cam world but I’m looking forward to an owner of a Chinese 4WD doing a review in the midst or after having done ‘a big lap’ possibly even towing a caravan or camper trailer 😉
