I am fixing up an old french lathe Ernault Batignolles HN170 with worn out ways. I barely had enough to buy the whole thing and now each month I spend about 200 dollars on tooling. I just got a used tool post Aloris type and your video is kind of a preview of what I have to do on mine. Change the bolt and bore out the new tool post that is 42 mil instead of 52 on my compound. For that I will need a 4 jaws chuck that will be next month. Thanks for taking the time to show us your work.
Seems to me the smart lathe gives you much greater work envelope and much of the benefit of CNC at much lower cost. I can see the upside in an industrial tool room, prototyping or architectural fab where large items/short production run or one off. Looks like a great solution.

Can the smart lathe be programmed to keep a constant surface speed when facing parts and parting off?
Yes, you can, it shows more on this video: th-cam.com/video/-5SvxI2whGU/w-d-xo.html. I hope that helps.
Very smart Machine
