Just an observation here, not trying to be negative. Was waiting for it to be discussed in the presentation. There is oil/wetness at the pinion flange (front of the differential). This indicates the pinion seal is leaking and would also explain why the fluid level was low before draining. Usually, the pinion seal begins leaking because the pinion bearings (there are 2) are worn. This would also explain why "noise" is coming from the differential. Ideally, there should be no noise and no amount of fluid changes will remedy the situation (although, the gear lube definitely needed changed on this 240D). The ONLY fix is to pull the differential and change the bearings and races. The noise and the leak are only going to get worse. Additionally, there's enough pipe dope on the drain plug to seal about 10 of them. It only takes a small amount, across the threads. When the plug is installed, all the thread surfaces are coated due to the rotation of the plug. I would have also cleaned off all that excess pipe dope as it serves no purpose on the outside of the threads. All in all a nice video. Very nice "Hazet" wrench. For 200K+ miles, a little pinion leak is pretty minor. These were great cars.

Baloney, he confused the Christ out of people, with the LIMITED SLIP option. Which means you need different oil and hence different API BS etc etc etc. In his defense he did say that there are rarely a W123 or 300D with limited slip.. BUT what if you just happen to be one of those unlucky lemon-biters who has one... Then this video just opened a can of worms... Unless you totally understand limited slip, LOL...Screw that, I just want to change that smelly stinky diff oil, that my pesky chihuahua keeps getting a hard on over, because she thinks, she is smelling Belgian Chocolate......... SIT BOBO SIT.. GOOD DOG

How can you tell if you have a limited slip differential?

Good show! I mostly liked the greasy, croaking, farting noises you made while filling.
