Hi, I notice a significant interest in this video I published some time ago. For all of those who would like to know more about Superyacht A, here is some interesting info: Initially, she was called Project 787 during her construction at Nobiskrug shipyard in Germany. In the shipyard words, "Born from the desire of the owner to push the boundaries of engineering, and challenge the Status Quo of the industry, Sailing Yacht A is undoubtedly one of the most visionary projects Nobiskrug has ever been involved in" Delivered in the year 2017, with a LOA (length) of 142.81m, a beam (width) of 24.88m, with exterior and interior design from the french designer Philippe Starck Gerard Dykstra designed the sail plan at Dykstra Naval Architects in the Netherlands. The rig type is a three-masted schooner, and she is mentioned as a sail-assisted motor yacht. The unique masts were created by Damon Roberts, director of Magma Structures in the UK. He is the mastermind behind the most innovative masts systems in the world. The hull is made of steel, with a superstructure of Steel/GRP (Glass Reinforced Plastic). Her maximum speed is estimated in 21 knots, with a cruising speed of 16 knots. Her gross tonnage (weight) is 12.558 tons. The propulsion is a two MTU 20V 4000 M73L hybrid diesel-electric system, which produces 7300kw, a total of 9790hp. Her masts tower 100 meters above sea level, and they are the tallest, freestanding composite structure in the world. Superyacht A won the World Superyacht Award 2018 About her interiors is all a mystery; she has eight decks. On the six-deck, there is a touch and go helipad. We know she has a large swimming pool in her main deck. We also hear that she has an underwater observation pod. In her mainmast, I also notice a crystal elevator that can go all the way up to the crow's nest of the mast for a unique observation 100m over the ocean. I also hear that she carries a crew of around 54. Ok, that is all I know, and it is great she is still a mystery, so let your imagination fly. With unlimited resources, what would you build?
C Hunter Yes, you are correct. Motor Yacht A was his first experience. Then he invited a group of the best designers to create Sailing Yacht A, the winner of the competition wasn't Starck, but for some reason, he didn't deliver, and the owner decided to go with his second choice again, Starck.
