      They'd be blown out of their mind. In the 17th century, sailors still believed in legends and had never seen anything floating not made of wood. Perhaps ship designers an engineers of the time would be even more impressed. Bear in mind that a lot of that age's best tech was made for seafaring, and so they would probably be the ones who'd have best understood the width of the tech gap between us and them. It wold pretty much be like if a current NASA engineer had a live look at the Enterprise spaceship.

      Roberto Corbara It would contain materials that haven’t even been discovered yet. The internal combustion engine, LED lighting, lithium batteries etc. Many of these things have been invented in the last few decades. It would be awesome to see their reactions.

      Just consider the rig with the sails furled in the boom and deploy with a push of a button and with masts and booms made of carbon fiber with fiber optics sensors system inside the carbon the measure the loads while sailing. Even for us, today sounds like science fiction.

    it is like a work of art. I too thought "oh it has no glass then I saw the camaflauge windows. All I can say is that I would hate to see one of those sails fail. Nothing about this ship would be cheap. The hull looks seamless and the color is beautiful.

      The color was still changed short after it was released I think, from white to grey. And for that billionair it could be considered cheap, less than 1/20 of his total net worth lol, money isn't divided very fair in this world, but it's an awesome thing to have.

    Hi, I notice a significant interest in this video I published some time ago. For all of those who would like to know more about Superyacht A, here is some interesting info:
    Initially, she was called Project 787 during her construction at Nobiskrug shipyard in Germany. In the shipyard words, "Born from the desire of the owner to push the boundaries of engineering, and challenge the Status Quo of the industry, Sailing Yacht A is undoubtedly one of the most visionary projects Nobiskrug has ever been involved in"
    Delivered in the year 2017, with a LOA (length) of 142.81m, a beam (width) of 24.88m, with exterior and interior design from the french designer Philippe Starck
    Gerard Dykstra designed the sail plan at Dykstra Naval Architects in the Netherlands. The rig type is a three-masted schooner, and she is mentioned as a sail-assisted motor yacht.
    The unique masts were created by Damon Roberts, director of Magma Structures in the UK. He is the mastermind behind the most innovative masts systems in the world.
    The hull is made of steel, with a superstructure of Steel/GRP (Glass Reinforced Plastic). Her maximum speed is estimated in 21 knots, with a cruising speed of 16 knots. Her gross tonnage (weight) is 12.558 tons.
    The propulsion is a two MTU 20V 4000 M73L hybrid diesel-electric system, which produces 7300kw, a total of 9790hp. Her masts tower 100 meters above sea level, and they are the tallest, freestanding composite structure in the world.
    Superyacht A won the World Superyacht Award 2018
    About her interiors is all a mystery; she has eight decks. On the six-deck, there is a touch and go helipad. We know she has a large swimming pool in her main deck. We also hear that she has an underwater observation pod. In her mainmast, I also notice a crystal elevator that can go all the way up to the crow's nest of the mast for a unique observation 100m over the ocean. I also hear that she carries a crew of around 54. Ok, that is all I know, and it is great she is still a mystery, so let your imagination fly. With unlimited resources, what would you build?

    • @NAVISmagazine
      @NAVISmagazine 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      C Hunter Yes, you are correct. Motor Yacht A was his first experience. Then he invited a group of the best designers to create Sailing Yacht A, the winner of the competition wasn't Starck, but for some reason, he didn't deliver, and the owner decided to go with his second choice again, Starck. Now, I would love to see that first design.

    It's funny how under the numerous videos about this "yacht" (ship more like) either the bulk of the comments either love it or hate it. Like, under one video everyone likes it and another video everyone thinks it's ugly. Just shows how easily people are swayed by others opinions. Psycology aside, this is certainly an imposing vessel. That initial shot of the enormous bow is something to behold. One can't help but think that some people just have too much money. I'm not jealous, much....

    I have seen this many times during construction and testing but I never saw it close enough to see the many flush hidden portholes. I always thought it must be like a cave with no views except at the top -now I know better. I am amazed that they just use fenders like I do.
    This seems like a monstrous waste of money until you consider how much it would cost to have such a huge luxury home in many locations in ports around the world. If you rent you still have to move a large support staff and adapt to each location. This is actually sensible for a billionaire.

    • @troubleMakesThree
      @troubleMakesThree 4 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      That's ridiculous. Even if you are right that the cost of running this beast is cheaper than multiple luxury homes around the world. It's cruising speed is 16 knots. There is no way it's going to be able to replace multiple homes. Its just some rich guy, showing everybody how rich he is. Not to mention it's the ugliest boat with sails I've ever seen (It's a motorsailer, not a sailboat).

Only so many safe ports in the world you can go.

    Gloomy and depressing. The good part of our age is a renewed interest in innovation, education and technology but aesthetically we are a disaster: clothing, cars, movies, architecture, interior design, yachts; all are just depressing and bleak. This boat is about the grimmest of any pleasure boat I have seen. Oh for Mr Morgan's yacht.

    Even out of the width of 25 meters you could create a sailing yacht lol

    amazing I’m guessing that actually is a decomishioned Navy Ship they turned into a Mega Yacht pretty cool what a lot of money can do here is another interesting thing if it is converted to private and used for Pleasure the owner doesn’t need any special Certifications or liscense to Captain it , although sometimes insurance companies may have their own requirements since that would be a high replacement cost and could easily do a great amount of damage to docks and other vessels
