8:08 I have loved this game dearly for the past 10 or so years since I've played it, and have analyzed and its themes and philosophical ideas for years. I never once thought how the job system was actually significant to the narrative of the story concerning Delita's wish to rise in spite of his class. Thank you for the new insight!
What a great video! I usually avoid "list" videos, but this actually went in depth and took time to give context. Thank you for covering one of my favorite games!
The art direction of War of the Visions is fantastic, but good lord, why the fuck did they have to make a FFT sequel as a godamn gacha? Jesus Christ, man. I'm so tired of everything gacha these days.
Final fantasy 6 was my first back on the SNES , then 7 was released and i was blown away, but Tactics was really special. To this day out of all the FF games i played, it is still my most favourite. The story, the characters, the music is the best ive ever seen.
Man I loved FFT and its psp remaster along with Tactics Ogre remake. It's good to know that SE hasn't forgotten about it, but its just so weird that FFT'S new game is a mobile based game. Maybe after Triangle Strategy SE would be interested in remaking FFT since its turning 25 next year. Tactics and 8 were my favorites of FF's Ps1 era.
Man, this game is like the Game of Thrones of video games, funny enough they both came out around the same time. Ramza, Delita, Agrias, Gaffgarion, the dreaded Wiegraf and the epic battle with him. Just such an incredible game for it's time in terms of storytelling.
FFT is my favorite game of all time from the music to story etc amazing. It was so detailed to the point where if you let one of the unique units crystallize the game will update their bio to say they died in combat. Or if you want to release a unit they will be sad .
I played Vandal Hearts before I'd even heard of FFT, and I fell absolutely in love with that game. When I tried FFT, I couldn't get into it; I think because of the much different aesthetic. Vandal Hearts remains one of my fondest gaming memories of all time.
Me too! I LOVED Vandal Harts as well! When I first heard and played FFT, I beat that once, but, I just couldn't get into it either, liked the story itself anyway! I still have Vandal Hearts on my PS3 hard-drive! My late-husband really enjoyed too. Helped me a lot with strategy, completely transformed future play-throughs! He was REALLY good at the strategy side of, not just RPG's, but, of many other games as well! I'm glad I'm not the only one that felt the same about FFT!
The music is what makes Final Fantasy Tactics stand out for me. Mixed in with the complex story the music during some battles makes you feel Ramzas turmoil because he’s a character that doesn’t want to fight but he has to keep fighting for the greater good because no one else will.
Final Fantasy Tactics and XI are my two favourites, and I think a lot of that has to do with their focus on variety over balance, as well as a heavy emphasis on lore. But of course, most people tend to prefer speed over strategy, so neither of them are very popular with the majority of their audiences.
Yasumi Matsuno and the rest of the dev team are gods. The Ogre Battle series is also a masterwork, especially Tactics Ogre: Let Us Cling Together (all versions ((including the One Vision mod)) are worth a play through but I think the psp port is best).
I feel a bit in the minority on this one, but I absolutely loved the original PS1 version over WOTL. So many quotes stuck with me from my childhood that it felt odd to see it changed to more of an old English in the WOTL version. It just felt like the PS1 version had more heart in the conversations. Though the added Dark Knight job was a great choice. FFT has to be the most replay-able game in the franchise, so it’s cool to see all these new facts after playing through it so many times. Btw, LOVE how you animated the new logo in the beginning!
All you need to know about fft is math skill holy eradicates the entire map with 999 damage and that's just 1 wizard with math skill. Imagine having 5...
When I first bought tactics, I really didn't know what to expect. All I knew is that it was a Final Fantasy title. I guess that's all it took. The game was an epic experience. Loved this and especially War of the Lions.
Absolutely loved FFT. I haven't brought myself to play it recently, though I've talked about it. My father passed recently, and this and only three other titles (NFS Carbon, Final Fantasy X, and Pokemon Red) were really the only games we both played together and enjoyed. As for the question at the end of the video, I think my favorite part of the video itsself was the tidbit about him working customer service directly. Especially nowadays, there isn't as much direct feedback from the higher-ups to the community itsself in regards to making actual changes, because the people funding these projects are primarily paying attention to the cost vs profit, rather than taking the time they need to create a genuinely complete experience.
Update: I've been playing it, and I might have broken it. Dual wield pistols, with Knight skill secondary ability. Another is a stronk monk, and thirdly a Samurai with Counter Flood, mastered Geomancer so no matter what tile the unit is standing on it responds with an element. (I've been on a Demon Slayer kick, sue me.)
Tactics Ogre - the precursor in many ways to FFT - remains a dearly held favorite also. Tactics Ogre is also a Yasumi Matsuno game (as is March of the Black Queen).
I legitimately do not understand how FFT's customizable secondary, reaction, passive and movement abilities didn't become a standard for the SRPG genre. In fact, to my knowledge it hasn't been reused or reiterated upon in even a single other SRPG so far.
@@PowerPandaMods Yeah, I kind of prefer Fell Seal's modern take on it to FFT's. I keep hoping someone will meld Fell Seal's upgraded class system with the story chops of a War of the Lions or Tactics Ogre.
If they did that, we’d get an entirely new wave of Tactics fans. I’d love to see more classes, new weapons & armor, more refine stats, bigger maps, & a PvP that’s balanced enough to be a fantastic player experience.
"impact as ff 6 7 or 8" and yet again, ff9 is left in the shadow of it full potential.. the only reason it fall off is because its release just about when ps2 is release.. its such an amazing game, better than 7 or 8..
The diorama aspect makes me want a new tactics games with Fantasian’s approach to diorama building now. Maybe Sakaguchi and Matsuno could collaborate again.

I'd take it for Steam or for Switch. Preferably Steam so I don't have to pay for online capabilities on the Switch any time I wanna play it with friends. But I'd take either right now. I'm desperate.
I figured you'd have mentioned how to get clouds buster sword too and that's funny since ogre battle March of the black queen and tactics are his two best games
I think the biggest information to learn was that 60fps was the minimum requirement they implemented... which goes to say that I think they could easily use the same format, make a new story, and simply increase the battle proportions to a larger scale because 60 fps is something we can easily do nowadays with our current hardware.
For real though. It was GOT before GOT became mainstream. Like, outside of the Lucavi angle, the whole entire game is about who is being put on the throne.
"there were over 400 individual abilities that could be learn and as there was no limit to the amount of abilities a single character could learn, it was possible to create what the developers dubbed super characters. It might seem like an oversight as creating these super characters would make the game unbalanced. but Ito planned the job system to work this way and the reason for doing so was so that the job system would dovetail with the game's narrative theme that people should be useful no matter their class or social standing....." - just pure genius
Everyone here should check out Final Fantasy Tactics Complete. It's a fan hack of the original PSX game that ports the PSP translation back to the original, and also enables the sound novels. As a note, someone out there put out a "Complete V2", and it's a buggy mess that has little to do with "Complete". Ignore that one.
This game made me fall in love with Black Mages and Dragoons. And damn it all I can’t get enough of the fanart. I’ve been playing it over and over for years lol. I have it on my tablet and will sit for hours tapping away. It’s cool to learn something new about one of my favorite games. I bought it out of curiosity one day after school just cruising Sam’s Club waaay back in 2002.
Here's something most people don't know, but once you notice it becomes impossible to ignore (and makes the game seem more melodramatic and hilarious). In War of the Lions, watch the animated cutscenes they added into the game. Every single one has a moment when a character stops talking dramatically, and the screen cuts to black, only to start back up again immediately afterwards. Every - single - cutscene - has this. It's hilarious, and very distracting once you notice :).
I am amazed that a scenario and story that started from a place of not wishing to be responsible ended up so well, and further that it is so beloved the world that was built (Ivalice) continues to see demand and reproduction in the overarching releases of the Final Fantasy product line.
Yes a online versus would be 🔥!! Not to mention some DLC that could at least give meaning to the new characters added in wotl! This game was my childhood & nothing made me wanna run home to play, level up, unlock & grab new gear.... this could be a real good money grab opportunity

After grinding the ivalice raids all day for tomes in ff14 this was perfect recommended video
best final fantasy game. Taps into foresight.
I've made a annual gaming goal out of this masterpiece and i can say I've played and finished it every year since it came out.
Truly a timeless gem!
I'm currently modifying it, to play through it for what must be the 100th time.
What a great video! I usually avoid "list" videos, but this actually went in depth and took time to give context. Thank you for covering one of my favorite games!
I want a true console FFT successor so bad. It’s even worse that there’s war of the visions but it’s a stupid mobile gacha game
WoftV's character design is awesome though. But the stages aren't as good as WoftL.
Project Triangle Strategy looks a lot like a proper FFT. In the meanwhile, you should check Fell Seal. Its a great tactics homage
Raul Bargas it looks great and I’m sure there’s other good tactical rpgs but I want the motifs and lore of final fantasy :/
The art direction of War of the Visions is fantastic, but good lord, why the fuck did they have to make a FFT sequel as a godamn gacha? Jesus Christ, man. I'm so tired of everything gacha these days.
@@BingBangPoe WotV is not a sequel though. It's not even in Ivalice. It's just a Final Fantasy + Tactical gameplay, not more than that.
Tactics Ogre LUCT and FF tactics reamin my favourite jrpgs even as today.. great video : )
Now, imagine TO with FFT graphics...
Man, this game is like the Game of Thrones of video games, funny enough they both came out around the same time. Ramza, Delita, Agrias, Gaffgarion, the dreaded Wiegraf and the epic battle with him. Just such an incredible game for it's time in terms of storytelling.
Tactics, by Ian.
Step one, monk + chakra farm
Step two
Black mage dropping Holy nukes
FFT + FF Union? Guaranteed like before even watching! I would pay top dollar for an FFT and FF9 Remake
There's a mod for FF9 (PC, steam version I think) that remasters it. Haven't had a chance to try it but it looks quite good!
FFT is my favorite game of all time from the music to story etc amazing. It was so detailed to the point where if you let one of the unique units crystallize the game will update their bio to say they died in combat. Or if you want to release a unit they will be sad .
Oh, wow! Awesome!
FFT is one of my favorite games of all time. Thanks for this.
And I always just thought it was just amazing mix of Tactics Ogre with Final Fantasy 5.
Love the music soundtrack from this game, great characters (Orlandu), and amazing story.
Agree so hard! Those are my two favs from the FF series. FFT sorely deserves a proper sequel!
Great to see all the appreciation for one of my favorite final fantasy games. I’m still a sucker for the original translation. Put it on steam.
Yasumi Matsuno and the rest of the dev team are gods. The Ogre Battle series is also a masterwork, especially Tactics Ogre: Let Us Cling Together (all versions ((including the One Vision mod)) are worth a play through but I think the psp port is best).
My first playthrough of tactics happened entirely on my walks to elementary school on psp lol
Big props for featuring War Song as the 'tactical' example in the intro!
I love FFT and Tactic Ogre, but I'm more excited if they'll remake Ogre Battle.
Doesn't need a remake. needs a new entry.
Loved being able to make an army of werewolves!
All you need to know about fft is math skill holy eradicates the entire map with 999 damage and that's just 1 wizard with math skill. Imagine having 5...
I wasn’t expecting to be surprised by all 7 facts being such a Matsuno fan but this video was such an impressive learning experience. Thank you!
Try War of the Visions. But job class is limited though.
It's used in Fell Seal: Arbiter's Mark, which is the closest thing we've gotten to a true FFT successor.
@@PowerPandaMods Yeah, I kind of prefer Fell Seal's modern take on it to FFT's. I keep hoping someone will meld Fell Seal's upgraded class system with the story chops of a War of the Lions or Tactics Ogre.
@@PowerPandaMods I had never heard of Fell Seal until now. Thanks, I'll check it out!
They seriously need to put this game into consoles, update this title with new content, & build an online PvP.
This all day long.
If they did that, we’d get an entirely new wave of Tactics fans. I’d love to see more classes, new weapons & armor, more refine stats, bigger maps, & a PvP that’s balanced enough to be a fantastic player experience.
I would play it so much!
I always wanted BADLY a multiplayer option to play with friends. Would've been fantastic!
@@Frejborg it’s been 3 years and I still stand by this statement. Remake this game with some updated features and tactics will shine.
WotL and Tactics Ogre are my favorite games of all time
"impact as ff 6 7 or 8"
and yet again, ff9 is left in the shadow of it full potential.. the only reason it fall off is because its release just about when ps2 is release.. its such an amazing game, better than 7 or 8..
Man, I need to pick this one up again. I never did get too far into the PSP version...
Also. Nice plug for Warsong/Langrissier thanks for that.
It is literally my favorite game and franchise. So.. yea. Thanks for that.
I tried when I was kid and failed but recently bought it and beat as an adult and it is wonderful
Nothing warms more my heart, than a video notification from Final Fantasy Union 🥰
Thank you for giving this treasure of gaming a deep dive dose of love.
The diorama aspect makes me want a new tactics games with Fantasian’s approach to diorama building now. Maybe Sakaguchi and Matsuno could collaborate again.
With how much the industry changed since the first game launched it would be very VERY interesting to see how they would craft something along the lines of FF Tactics
this game is still one of my top ten favorite games. I still use my psp just for this game
8 things you didn't know about Final Fantasy Tactics
Number 8: How to pronounce Beoulve
#9: You've been misspelling Yvalice since day 1.
#10: Vagrant Story uses a repurposed FFT engine.
lol People always pronounce names in various ways.
If any FF game deserves a modern day remake, it’s Tactics.
War of the Lions desperately needs an HD Switch port.
That would be the greatest! and there probably wouldn't be a slow down on abilties.
@@OvrlordEtna - The Android version doesn't seem to suffer from those issues, so I doubt it would be an issue for them in any future renditions :)
It’s nice to see that there’s still stuff I don’t know about my favorite game of all time
Cid's (ff7) theme in a soft piano in the background makes the video much better.
I think the biggest information to learn was that 60fps was the minimum requirement they implemented... which goes to say that I think they could easily use the same format, make a new story, and simply increase the battle proportions to a larger scale because 60 fps is something we can easily do nowadays with our current hardware.
Favorite game ever. Still choose characters name as Ramza Beowulf to this day
Play through this game at least once a year because of how good it is. We need a remaster for ps4/5!
I just downloaded this for iphone from the app store, and it actually runs great! Having a blast re-living the memories
I use to rent this from blockbuster over and over as a kid thanks to grandma. #2 ff favorite.
fact, final fantasy tactics is a lot like game of thrones except it has a satisfying ending and less sexual assault stuff.
FACTS
For real though. It was GOT before GOT became mainstream. Like, outside of the Lucavi angle, the whole entire game is about who is being put on the throne.
Well both are heavily inspired by The War of the roses
I think you have it the wrong way round. Both are inspired by Shakespeare’s history plays
@@derekhart410 and the Bosnian War.
"there were over 400 individual abilities that could be learn and as there was no limit to the amount of abilities a single character could learn, it was possible to create what the developers dubbed super characters. It might seem like an oversight as creating these super characters would make the game unbalanced. but Ito planned the job system to work this way and the reason for doing so was so that the job system would dovetail with the game's narrative theme that people should be useful no matter their class or social standing....."
- just pure genius
I opened the video knowing I probably already knew all 7 facts, but watched till the end anyways just because it's FFUnion
One of my favorite games ever, I just didn't like that the ending doesn't explain what happened to your other characters in your party (besides Ramza and Alma) after the battle with Ultima.
But definitely a masterpiece.
Excellent video. You're right, I didn't know a single one lol. Thanks for your hard work, folks!
Good ole FF8 music playing in the background. ♥️💘
7, I think
th-cam.com/video/Jj8wOisRIqU/w-d-xo.html
I remember when I finally got an sp and could play tactics advance under the covers for endless hours into the night
Ah man, my favorite in the entire series EVER, Ramza and Delita's tale really hits all those grand notes in a Final Fantasy title. That new gacha tactics game is such a shameful successor, I wanna play it so bad, but I don't think it'd be worth the trouble
