  • Ok, so I said in the video I’d state in this video description the adventure, um, I mean issues, that led down the path to Tone’phrey Bogart - the bogie’fier.
    Here we go…
First, the original paint job. I generally use lacquer or Rustoleum enamel to paint my stuff. However, when sourcing paint locally for this amp, during the covid-19 shortages, the only brand I could find that had the colors I wanted was Krylon. Well, not knocking Krylon but lets just say TWO chassis (one of which was this amp) that I painted with Krylon had to be redone. The stuff just didn’t stick. I did all the normal prep, used Krylon start to finish (primer, etc), but it just didn’t stick very good…
Second, after striping off the Krylon and spraying with Rustoleum and getting some great results, well… The wife bought me the super duper deluxe Mojotone chassis stand. I did a video on what happened, but long story short… In my zeal/rush to use it I didn’t take notice of the big ole round nuts on the inside of the stand and YEP those big ole round nuts wiped out the new paint job. Can you say that suck’s, man…
Third, I decided to strip the chassis and go with no paint job. And, to be honest, it looks very good this way - at least I think so…
Fourth, the 7f7 sockets and tubes. One of the original loctal sockets for the 7f7’s broke. Wanting to use two matching sockets I bought some NOS loctal sockets. I’m not sure what was up with the sockets I received, but no matter how well I cleaned them (deoxit, scrapping, etc) they just didn’t make a good connection with the tube pins. So, I bought some new ceramic loctal sockets, which were so cheaply made I just sent them back for a refund. Not to give up I pulled out a couple more loctal tube sockets I had laying around, cleaned and fiddled with them until they seemed to make decent contact with the 7f7 tube pins, but… No matter what I did I just couldn’t get those 7f7’s not to have one issue or another (buzzing, microphonic, etc). I checked things, rechecked things, etc, etc, to no avail. So, I ditched the 7f7’s all together. I bought a batch of NOS 6sl7 tubes and some new ceramic octal sockets and… What do you know, things started working just fine.
And, the final thing was the NFB. I had the amp wired up for non-variable NFB. But, when tweaking resistor values for it I couldn’t decide on a value. Mainly because several different values had their own charm for lack of better words. So I was really wanting to wire it up with variable NFB. BUT the front/back plates were already made up and installed AND the variable NFB would require not only drilling a new hole in the chassis BUT also making a new back plate…
Did I say the final thing, not quite. It seems that Bogie is spelled Bogie and NOT Bogey - which is how I had it spelled originally - oops...
So, yep. Bogie knew what he wanted and the amp was going to continue morphing until it reached it’s present state. Who knows, maybe it'll continue to morph in the future too...
    Here’s to BOGIE...
Thanks for stopping by and watching
