I do think he mentioned the Faceless-Men caused the downfall. They were founded by a rather twisted Valyrian that relieved people from their suffering by killing them. He - or his followers decided his own people needed euthanasia and they sabotaged a blood-magic rite.
Probably the Faceless men along with the maesters were also involved in the Summerhall-disaster, with Egg even summoning cousins from Essos. - Who says that the cousins from Essos all were cousins. The Black Pearl of Bravos still exists, so her bloodline didn't join, nor did Brown Ben Plumm's grandparents. Neither of them wanted dragons around again, especially, if they knew it needed a human sacrifice they didn't wish to be turned into. This sounds like the job for a faceless man.

I think that was what the Doom was. An experiment that went horribly wrong and the fire worms infected everything in the capital.
I did remember a tale talking about how even dragons would burst into flame from the heat of the volcanic eruptions over taking them. Maybe it was volcano lava, but the worm infested in the dragons burning them from the inside out. Those who survived the infection of this magical bio Harvard event. Became the first patient zero of the Grey scale virus. Similar to the experiment of the child of the forest making the first white walkers to defend their homes, during the Age of heroes.
They dabbled in the small science and, over time, became obsessed and used wild magic, unpredictable magic to perform great and terrible things.

Like suggesting out of his brief writing on the creatures that he decided to include the fact they had faces, for no other reason than they had normal wyrm faces is so autism brained lol, like he was just naming body parts for the sake of naming body parts "they had faces! and mouths! and setae too, used for locomotion by compressing and decompressing their bodies. and this is the clitellum! my god they have anuses too!" like its so dumb lol, obviously he meant human faces, and the context clues of common sense and logic combined with him stating they had "hands" fuxking hands a anatomical feature found exclusively on humanoid life, kinda seals the deal for me.

I wonder if these are what Bran saw in his first vision (in the books) when Jamie pushed him out of the tower window. We know he saw Jon Snow in the cold north, and also dragons. This would mean that Drogon would not be the last one, if it is in fact a prophetic dream and not something from the past. There are too many things that point to it being a prophetic vision, though. We do not know what he saw at the very end of that vision that frightened him so much that he awoke in tears, but those disgusting things would do the trick.

The idea that dragons were a man made creature in his lore is so dope. Acknowledging wyverns as separate non domesticated natural creatures is also him calling out ppl saying his dragons are not actually “fantasy accurate dragons” plus making a dragon a homunculus of both valerians, wyverns and fire wyrms- the latter which gives the wyvern portion its size and ability to breathe fire, its strongest weapon a shout out to dune and its use of giant grounded worms that are directly correlated to the ruling houses (targerean/atredes) power. Also the mini fire wyrms that sprout out of her is also accurate to the mini worms in dune. So cool grrm. So cool
