I hope to one day do work like this for a living.. along with watercolor cards... think those two make a good combo.
People don’t know how HARD it is to write calligraphy that slow and steady. When I do calligraphy, I have to do it fast so the line aren’t squiggly. This lady is so skilled and talented to be able to write like that, not to mention her font is sooo elegant!!😍
It came completely naturally to me.. I thought it was so easy and a lot of people thought I was crazy or some savant at calligraphy, but I think my background in Graffiti and art just allowed me to have a really steady hand, but also a great understand of letters and feel for how to use the ink/paint.. Spray paint is in some ways similar to Calligraphy. With the angling of the can and the spray and the quick changes in pacing and movements to achieve a thinner or thicker line.
It’s bad enough to think that we have misplaced the art of writing a letter, but this is a reminder that we have neglected so much more. Bravo, Ma’m. A work of elegance! Thank you.
I absolutely love how this isn’t sped up and making you feel like everyone can do this as quick as other people write normally. It takes time and patience and makes me feel so much better 😂
That’s so funny, I did this for a client with a note that wasn’t so positive. They stated that their name was so beautifully written that they kept the letter.

I can’t remember seeing my kids and grandkids report card showing and testing for handwriting. 😔 I guess with technology few people have “cursive hand” anymore. Want to see some upset people? Require everyone who is due a stimulus check to sign it in cursive script rather than print...😳 No, I better not go there. 😇 Love the calligraphy

I had to learn cursive writing too, especially when i was the angry kid again and my father told me to write 10.000 times: You have to listen to your mother and do your homework...or stuff like that 😁 It helped me to write in a way, i never would do today, plus i didn't had to do the homework my mother gave me, cause i had to write for weeks 😂
Belief & patience in you, being never afraid of failure, sticking to the basics will get you the letters you want. Imitation is the mother of invention, keep this in mind.
Lovely, Suzanne! No sooner had I seen “Com” in the address line, I knew it would be Commonwealth Avenue in Boston. I live in a suburb of Boston and have traveled on “Comm-Av” many times. BTW...your script is beautiful. Mine is not nearly as precise due to neuropathy in my fingers nowadays. Yet I was blessed to have been taught “Spencerian Script” over 50 years ago by the late George Hilliard, a gentleman who had worked in a bank his entire adult life and did all the ledger entries using this script. Can you imagine what that must have been like? What Mr. Hilliard taught me was essentially what you’ve demonstrated in this video, but with a little less flourish.

I'm a left-handed beginner staring at 200 blank A-7 envelopes which I need to transform into Cunningham-esque works of art. I'm certain I want to use Copperplate but was wondering if you have documentation on the specific alphabet used in your video.

Wow. This is my childhood passion, I used to do this almost everyday in school during classes. While my teacher is lecturing, I am busy doing this stuff. Sadly when I began to work after college my passion died due to stressful shifts at work. I'm just glad that my 6 year old daughter is now the owner of my old tools since shes fond of it too. Before I don't want anyone touching my tools, now it was me who personally handed it over to my princess.
Just gorgeous! I have struggled with capital B's & D's for years, never loving them ... but I love your's and will try to emulate them. I have never tried the side nib pen, but may just add it to my practices.
Some time in the early 80s, I watched a film about a mediaval era in England. In one part if the film, there was a letter written by a prince to a church member. The handwriting in that letter (calligraphic), really got me motivated that I began adopting the style in my daily handwriting. Even though my handwriting is NOT a true calligraphy style of writing, I still use the same writing strokes in it.

This is always hard for me, and I often leave too much space between the lines of writing. So, how close together should they be? This would be sooooo helpful! BTW, your copperplate is some of the most elegant I have ever seen!
I assure you, if I was to be a postman, these beautiful letters would get delivered only after I hasd taken them home and stared at them in the candle light in amazement every evening for two weeks straight!! 😍👍👍
What a pleasure to watch! It makes me sad that not only is calligraphy a dying art form, but that some kids aren't even learning proper cursive writing in school anymore. One day, in the regretfully near future, an envelope addressed this way will likely be returned to sender, because no one at the post office will be able to read it. :(
Sadly our post office system works different. There are computers which read the adress automatically...we need to write clean and in non cursive... otherwise the system can't read it.
My grandchildren (11 and 15) can't read cursive, so they have no idea what their grandparents have written in their birthday cards. Oh well, they probably don't care - as long as a $20 bill falls out of mine. And $100 from the other grandparents. 😔😁
So when you're finished and ink is dry, do you erase the pencil grid on envelopes? I've seen others use some mirror trick or laser liners to avoid the pencil marks. Just wondering which is more helpful and practical.
@@ctky478 it works great. I use a light-box. You have to tape down or anchor the paper in place though. I use a paper-like transfer tape with light tac, as used in the Sign making industry. It is also called application tape.

@@ctky478 Yes...It can be practised....most of science students do this to trace the original diagrams onto the record sheets.

Beautiful, thank you for sharing. How do you draw the pencil guidelines on each envelope? I have seen other videos where the calligrapher uses a light box and a guide sheet slipped into the envelope.

what about all the lines on the envelope? what do you do with those? rub the out? if so, won't they still be seen?
USe eraser and once the ink is dry, they are getting out and not beign seen ;)
