The writing at 2:01 was so unbelievably wonderful. How'd you manage to keep those ink beautifully raised? I'd imagine lots of ink on a nib and requires tenacious practice?

Exactly, that's why this is usually called "classic" calligraphy. Overtime tho, as everyone started having simple pens and pencils, these calligraphy styles declined.
so I've been practicing with my dip pen...I dip it into the ink and begin writing. But the ink seems to sort of ooze out heavier at the start of the letter and of course fads as you write. But watching these video's I see consistent ink flow. Tips to correct would be appreciated. Thanks

Thanks @@CalligraphyMasters He didn't cover anything about how much ink to fill up the nips. And what to do if the first letter has copious amounts of ink flowing out. But this was interesting. I'm new...notifications on!! xo
@@lauraandrews8072 haha not cringing at all. i started with fountain pens and then moved on to dip pens. I started with the speedball set as well but i got mine from hobby lobby lol Which set did you get? I started with the copperplate set that has the hunt nibs. Those worked really well and lasted a good while. But i have learned the cheaper the nib the quicker they wear out. I might be a little bit biased but watching Paul Antonio videos really help. I just saw the other comment you put up here about filling the ink and you're only supposed to fill up to the vent/ well (the hole in the nib). and even then you still want to just brush the nib on the edge of your ink container to remove any excess ink. With the cheaper nibs, especially after some use, i found it helpful to either kinda shake the nib a bit over a spare sheet of paper to get rid of some extra ink or to lightly brush the bottom of it on a paper towel to get rid of some excess ink and help ink flow. Good luck and I hope you keep practicing!
You don't say what kind of ink you are using. That may also be a part of your problem. Like you I bought the speedball calligraphy set and speedball black India ink. I thought I was going to cry because my results were so messy with drips. But because I wanted to write in gold, I bought the finetec watercolor gold palette. That forced me to mix the paint and paint it onto my nib. It helped to learn about the right consistency of ink which for the watercolor, should be about as thick as milk. So if I had too much water, I just mixed my paint a little more to make it a little bit thicker. While my calligraphy is still amateur, my ability to write without drips really improved. Also buy some nikko g nibs. They hold a lot of ink, and are easier for a beginner as the nib is very smooth. It requires a little more pressure to get the beautiful swells that you see with calligraphy masters videos. Hope this helps you.
I just started again. I have always had reasonable good handwriting, but I want to increase my level. I bought the Pilot Parallel ser to start. Would you recommend a very nice black and a blue ink? Something with very high pigment content and rich color. Thank you.
