You have to keep in mind that even stockfish probably needs to run like 5 secs before spotting a move like that. You have to remember Svidler when he was younger was a super gm level player. With the help of the eval, I wouldn't be surprised if he found it himself. However, I do not rule out the chance he used stockfish in such a tense and complicated position.

And now with Magnus/Hikau/Wesley/Nepo who play stellar chess and make the game look savage. I think future generations will play near-perfect chess, but it will make the game look boring and repetitive.
Magnus' nervers are something else. I think Kramnik talked about it. He said something to the effect of Magnus may have strongest nervous system of all the players. It can be such a deciding factor in crunch situations.
I think it's hard to judge. if he was up against someone consistently stronger than him and closer to the #5 player, then we could see how his nerves hold up. As it is, he's confident because there's not such a challenge present and his track record proves that. he doesn't have to rely on having hard nerves in the same way that his challengers do, and certainly not to the same degree. not by a long shot. i would assume he blew past that when his brain was developing as a teenager and he was already crushing. then again, maybe the nerves helped him develop his skill with the game. pretty chicken and egg. there's also the idea that he sort of doesn't care about chess that much, as evidenced by his dipping into poker and dipping out of chess and all that stuff. it's clear that he doesn't take the game over-seriously - meaning like he obviously takes it seriously, but not *too* seriously - and I'm sure that helps a ton in quelling nerves as well, not having your entire worldview or self-worth tied up in the game if it's the center of your life, etc.

I really feel heartbroken for him he just lost his mom and now he lost to mvl after such an amazing battle he just literally outplayed him but in the games he was winning he made some minor mistakes which were completely non understandable and very uncharacteristic of magnus same with alireza in cct finals also he blundered his queen against nodirbek lost classical for the first time from pragg and also from many low rated players like 2400-2600 they held draw and also won against Carlson so i believe honestly he is pretty much on his downfall and he is far away from his prime even though he always strikes back and shows us why he is still the no 1 but yk it doesn't feels the same as before even though I won't be surprised that after this loss he wins the crunchlabs masters but after 2-3 years I believe he will loose a lot of ratings... I did the knight sacrifice, I pushed the pawn and was very pleased with myself for getting Vishis moves before he played them, but It seems no one in the world got the underpromotion to knight. A brilliancy I think.

The stalemate was only one move ahead and the only black idea. It's more like a flashy move to end the game rather than a true testament of skill.

This is a case study in both how to play a fantastic end game and alternately how NOT to announce it. Too many chess announcers feel compelled to stream of thought shout out potential moves in an effort to be first one to mention a move. The end result is a wonderful end game being a little less so for the viewer and a lot more frustrating. It would be analogous to Bob Costas having the camera switch to him as he shows us on a white board all the possible outcomes, meanwhile the game winning goal is scored off camera.

"Omg it was a blunder" but bro you just looked at stockfish...you didn't know it was a blunder at all until stockfish evaluated it as such. It didn't matter, they both already knew that Vishi is going for the draw. Whether Vishi smiles or not doesn't change anything. If there was a mistake from Vishi if you can call it a mistake is that he assumed that Magnus would just settle for a draw but instead Magnus played for a win.
I think that after Kb2, black just needs to go Ne2. This attacks the queen and covers C3. After the queen moves, the pawn can push to C3 with check, and the king has to move anyways (probably to A3 since A1 still isn't great even if there is a fork. If anything, I think white is behind a move in this variation. But it really doesn't matter.
Ne2 attacks the Queen, without possible check, and supports the pawn, who moves with check So Qc5 c3+ Kb3 c2 Qb4+ Kd1...pawn becomes queen, and even no check possible
Bruh thinking about knight promotes aren't crazy. What's crazy to me is the calculation speed and depth of the endgames as a whole. That's just my perspective as a 850-900 player tho.

It's funny, I could never even play 5% of my moves like Magnus. I was never very good at chess, especially compared to other intellectual things I was good at. I would have lost in the first 10 moves. But once he got into that position I saw the under promotion as being the best...

The rook is #2 to the queen. You promote to a knight when stalemate, fork, check is a concern
