What's YOUR favorite memory of seeing Return of the King for the first time?

I have some really great memories of both LOTR: Fellowship and ROTK.
I saw The first movie when I had just gotten out of Basic Training. I was allowed to go home for a week for Christmas. My friends all went to see it with me as I had missed it being away. It was awesome especially after being away from home for the first time for months and finally seeing my friends and family again. This was also my first exposure to the series so I immediately bought the books afterwards and read them while at Techc school.
I saw Return of the King on my first trip to Antarctica for the Air Force. It was right near Christmas and I was in New Zealand en route to Antarctica. My buddy said we should go see ROTK and it was amazing. Especially seeing it in the country it was filmed in.

Dude, seeing ROTK in New Zealand is epic. These movies really mean a lot to so many different people; it's wonderful.

Wow! It sounds like you've had some cool adventures yourself!
I told my regiment's retention NCO that I'd reenlist if he could guarantee me the Antarctica Service Ribbon and my own parking space, but he didn't bite.

Most indelible memory from my first viewing of The Return of The King: the gasp from the mom sitting next to me in the theater, when Denethor confessed that he wished Faramir had died in battle instead of Boromir.
Coincidentally, my most indelible memory from my first viewing of The Two Towers was a reaction from another mom sitting next to me in another theater, when the two unnamed little boys are drafted to defend Helm's Deep.
These movies were devastating for mothers with sons.

John Noble as Denethor is masterful in the screentime he has in Return of the King. Insufferable, villainous, sympathetic and pathetic all at once. It's a great performance!
