Hi Chris, good to have you back! I love the idea of pitching the old (review) with a thin layer of new to anyone. I will need to try that out this week in *enter random work meeting* and see what happens:-) Also, your use of the word "debacle" made me happy (and vinyl record player made me chuckle as well).

Chris, this was one of the most graceful videos I have ever seen! The necessity you did was done with such grace, your a tactile genius.
If it were me approached the same way (it happened a few times back when I was an independent "volunteer" print journalist in the industry), I would have explained my "terms" and flat turned them down anyway (saves a lot of trouble). As it happens, I did exactly that those few times. I don't sing for pay and I don't expect pay for my passion either.

You are a polite and civil man Chris. I will try and follow your example. One thing that occurred to me was the price of the “Vinyl Record Player” in review and the claims of it being “...best on market” and its having “...first-rate sound quality.” Really hard to imagine that there are “vinyl record players” on the market costing tens of thousands of dollars, and the little box from Angel’s Horn is just as good. After viewing a number of reviews and researching details about this product, one glaring detail bugged me... Why is a cartridge alignment tool included with a product who's cartridge can clearly not be adjusted? I've reached out and asked on more than one retail platform for an explanation and each time never get a straight answer within the platform's forum. Instead, Angel Horn consistently wants to engage in private conversation. In addition, it seems their only reply to this query is that the included cartridge is the only one compatible and already aligned, which is actually not true. Bottom line, Angel Horn comes off as charlatans, constantly dodging real concerns brought to light.

I'm not trying to defend the product, but:
Why would one judge the quality of the platter by using it as a percussion instrument?
Why would one want to slow down a platter with their finger?
I don't see the antiskating hook on the model, hence I'm not sure if the antiskating problem is still there.

    • @thevinylattack

I was watching Record-ology's review of the same Angels Horn record player with Bluetooth and speakers and the first unit he reviewed was just hopeless in terms of speed accuracy while the second unit he received seemed to work fine. His strobe disc showed the speeds working quite accurately (Granted, not a hyper-accurate digital analysis of the speeds being tested) and his records sounded decent enough, not that I expected much from the speakers provided.
I still wouldn't buy any Angels Horn record players, but the second one he had received did seem to have been improved compared to the previous lemon he had reviewed.
Either way, there are too many dodgy record players out there and dubious companies that want to profit from the vinyl record revival, so it pays to stick with companies with a better and more consistent track record.
Thanks for another great video, Chris.

@@brandonloyo1394 Record-ology is a great guy and for Christmas, he generously sent me as well as six other viewers one of his record players he had reviewed while he paid over $56 to ship the record player from Colorado to Canada (while I would have gladly paid the shipping charges had I known).
Sure, I don't like Crosley Cruiser suitcase record players either, but the point of his videos is to attract newcomers to the record hobby while also providing honest in-depth reviews of any record players or turntables he has or receives. He fully demonstrates the pros and cons of any product he reviews and there are plenty of times when he refuses to recommend a product and often states when a product is good for a novice entering the hobby versus people with more experience.
There will always be people out there that look down on Record-ology or on newcomers because a lot of audiophile snobs have lost the point of the hobby which is to enjoy the music with whatever equipment one has depending on the budget one has and regardless of where one starts, one can always upgrade.
The first Angels Horn record player he reviewed was garbage and received a negative review, but the second one he received worked well, but that unpredictable track record is a reason to avoid this brand altogether as I stated clearly.

    • @TorontoJon
      @TorontoJon 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

@@thevinylattack Yes, I believe you and even if the second one the company sent you had worked well, that would only prove that buying Angels Horn record players are a crap-shoot and few people want to gamble when buying audio equipment when they would prefer that everything consistently work properly right out of the box with no issues whatsoever.
That's why I agree with you 100%, Chris, that Angels Horn is not worth the risk or the cost when there are more reliable brands out there. Even an entry level Audio-Technica turntable along with a thrift store vintage receiver and speakers are a better starting point than an Angels Horn system. :)

Hilarious, but kind of sad at the same time, though Bluetooth & turntable (or in this case, "vinyl record player") are two words that should never go together. 😅
I mean, if you're going through the trouble of playing a record, you're already going for best sound quality, so I don't know why anyone want to connect something with Bluetooth to it, as you're going to lose sound quality. It might be negligible, but call me old school.. I have no problem with wires making the connections, and actually prefer that, with headphones or otherwise! 🤷🏻‍♂️
