    One of my favorite Olympic races, Watts was a master technician, a beautiful race!

    I remember this race so well, and it was great to see it again. Quincy Watts with that adorable baby face, just put the gauntlet down, kicked in the after burners, and got that Olympic Record. What an AMAZING RACE!

    It's a shame that Quincy Watts was never able to recapture this form in the following years. It would have made for some epic races with Michael Johnson.

    Just fabulous running. His last 100m he holds on through, you see the moment he almost falters and he just found a way to work through it

    Most beautiful quartermiler form I've ever seen! This is why his proteges, Michael Norman and Rai Benjamin have great form!

    • @rced2330
      @rced2330 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Rai, yes. But Norman just failed badly. He can't break 44 seconds anymore, and 35 minutes ago, turned in his first Olympiad with a yet another, sluggish, mid 44, out of the money effort. Yikes. What the hell happened to him post USC?????

      @@rced2330 I think he said that he has a minor injury that if pushed to hard will result into a bigger one. I agree, I want to see him in his USC prime on the world stage.

    I watched both Lewis' compete on Randalls' Island, NYC 1991 to qualify for Tokyo's World championships. What an honor to be in the same venue with guys like Steve, Carl and the Gods of the sport.

    Shame that both Watts and Kevin Young (400m hurdles) were so devastating in 92 but then both declined so quickly. Injuries played a big part for both. Shame.

      Training for the 400 and 400 hurdles is brutal and takes its toll on the body. That's what makes Michael Johnson so remarkable. He was the best in the world, if not in history, for the better part of a decade. Yet he also suffered many injuries that limited his performance.

    That backstretch by Watts was spectacular. The only other backstretch that was that amazing was Juantorena in 76.

    I remember the names but not the race. Thanks for the upload. The commentary was so Lewis and Watts that we learned next to nothing about the other Olympic 400 meters finalists.

    I thought that in his semi-final, Quincy looked easier. i think he could have run close to 43 flat on the day, but he was obviously holding back a bit to save energy for the final, in which he looked maxed out at 43.5. An awesome run though.
