That's right, there's no relation between the introduction (film) and real life, but I got the point of the video. But he makes a common mistake that all teachs make and you showed it on one of your videos.
He echoes what the st says "She finished her university" and he said the same, and when she said: "brother born" ok he let her finish and then he said "her brother was born", that's ok, but he could encourage her to say the example correctly by her own. If she coudn't then he gives feedback.

@BridgeTEFL Is it easy to find a job as an English Teacher (consider that you have taken a TEFL course) in the USA?
Which one is the easiest English native speaker ou a non-native speaker?
And what about post-graduation in English Language, is it common in the USA?

What do you say to the student if you didn't understand what they said?
I could understand the girls but I didn't hear some words.

So one question was he supposed to echo the students, I just watched a video on here saying don't do that? Am I wrong?

    Hi Kameleonic & 6834033,
Thanks for your comments--those are all really good points. The goal of these videos is not to show a "perfect" class, just a "real" class where not everything always goes as planned and even experienced teachers make mistakes. It's good that you analyzed the video and came up with techniques that could have improved the class. That's exactly what we want people to do with them! :)

In the example given the past perfect is used, but in the class room the teacher focuses only on the past simple. Was and were, he/she did or didn´t do, not what he/she had done/ hadn´t done etc. Please respond.

    Hi Carlos,
It was in the United States.

The clip suggests that we are about to see how the past perfect is taught and then we get a lesson on the past simple. Also, you haven't replied to the person who reminded you that the present is often used to describe film plots in real world English. Is teh past simple being introduced for the first time here? If so we could focus on habitual action in the past e.g. I washed my hair yesterday, I got home late last night and so on. What did you do yesterday?

I think the most important thing is that you can understand the three aspects of grammar no matter what tense you utilize. Regards

That icebreaker should have been better introduced and run:D

We've started a TEFL social network where we are trying to build a community of TEFL teachers around the world to meet and share experiences and tips. If anyone is interested take a look at tefl-me.com. It covers lots of areas and has a blog, forum groups individual profiles and a map to indicate your location in the world to help you meet other TEFL teacher when you are on the other side of the world.

Especially when they need to use past forms of irregular verbs. How should they know them if they haven't been taught or introduced to them?

Unfortunately, the background music is too distracticting, I could not focus, which made me stop the video. Remember that adding features is not always necessarily a good thing. :)

Please go through the transcript. It couldn't have been done any worse. For students who may not understand some of the pronunciation, and tried to get the words from the transcript, they would be learning Greek rather than English.

You better start to correct systematic errors such as (did you have `a` babies?, `a` graduated, she `want` to ). Just because the subject is grammar doesn't mean that all other parts of the language would be ignored. Research clearly illustrates that systematic errors might fossilize
