  • 2022 Oct 15, Sat. 73°F - Just an hour away from the bustling Milan, we got to Lake Como by train. Lake Como in Lombardy region is commune with nature and lovely people right in a beautiful lake at the foot of Swiss Alps. And the best places to appreciate Lake Como are the ones that are well-served by ferryboats. Gladly, with quick/easy ferry connections, we made it to 3 ex-fishing villages - Varenna, Bellagio and Menaggio - in one full day of fun. These villages offer stunning lakeside views of Lake Como to great length, esp during sunset with hazy, lazy Mt Alps looming in the background. The slow, aristocratic romance of the old days can still be felt today as if nothing much has changed. Time can be really slow here, esp. when day-trippers like us leave the place. Excitement begins from ferry boarding to landing. On a clear, sunny weather, the ferry ride allows you to see the grand view of Lake Como, Mt. Alps and its lovely town harbor fronts. These towns are small and built on the hill. Expect a lot of stony steps/walkways and staircases to climb, not really ideal for people with walking difficulty. If you can, the best way to see the towns is by foot, and we just did exactly that in one full day. We had fun walking (passarella) the romantic/elegant/well-maintained promenade, climbing the steep staircases, watching people, birds and ferryboats passing by along the lake, roaming the old towns and rubbing elbows with fellow tourists in the town squares, visiting lovely churches, admiring towering villas and sprawling houses and so on. Hope you like this video production as much as we enjoyed our visit to Lake Como.

      Hi, Pedro. It was October when we were there. Weather reports predicted some shower, but it never happened. Rather, we were blessed with sunny weather at low 70's F. Thank you for the nice comment and the encouragement. :)

    Well done on the flow of this video guys. looks like you had an awesome time. I have only seen this from a train, but will return soon. My father and I love to inspire and be inspired by other travelers. As park rangers with degrees in anthropology, we are drawn toward content with information on culture, historical sites, ecology and local food. Yes, we had an awesome time worthy of tiring the feet. Walking to discover is more fun, personal and meaningful than all the parties and lauriats in the world. Didn't feel the pain because we were having so much fun. Glad we did this walk at least once in our lifetime. Nice to see father and son team exploring the world. I didn't get to do this with my father since he passed away too early. PLEASE continue travelling with your dad and it's the best gift you can give to yourself. Having fun was no one’s last regret ever. :)

      @@thegallivanthropologists Glad to hear that you enjoyed your Annapurna circuit trek. We did the Gosaikunda Lake circuit during the Dashain holy festival in Oct 2010. Yes, it's one of those feel good life moments you can talk about over and over again. If you're looking for places to travel next, please consider, if you haven't already done so, places like Bhutan, Sahara Desert Morocco, Mt Etna Sicily, Santorini along the rim of the caldera, Desolation Wilderness Lake Tahoe and so on ...

      @@tobirates916 Hello, Tobi. I'm deeply sorry for your terrible loss. I'm struggling in finding the right words to say at this personal moment of your grieving. May I just share with you what a dear friend wrote me when my mother passed away 3 years ago. He said, "Accept what is. Let go of what was. And have faith in what will be. Life moves on. Take good care of yourself" Having gone thru grieving myself, I can tell you the process of grieving may take some time. Please hang in there. This too shall pass. My heart and prayers go out to you and your family.

    Hello! Awesome video! Planning to visit this fall. How was the commute from Milan? Was it difficult to navigate? Thanks!

    • @ONEJOURNEYONESTORY
      @ONEJOURNEYONESTORY  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi, Gayle. It's manageable. We decided to skip Como and focus on mid-lake -- Varenna, Bellagio and Menaggio. Hopping 3 small towns was more than enough for a day trip. From Milano Centrale, we took Trenod train to Varenna-Esino, and took about an hour travel time to get there. Going to Como follows a totally different route/train. Get to Milano Centrale early to know how ticket machines work, where the train platform, the Metro, the buses etc ... To avoid the queue, buy online tickets. Also, we stayed at NYX Hotel, a 3-minute walk from Stazione Centrale Train Station and Milano Mercato Centrale. This made our daily commute much easier and quicker since Milan has a sophisticated rail/transportation network system. Lastly, be aware that there are so many strange people hanging out in the area after dark. It made us feeling queasy. Please watch our Milan vid if that would help in your planning.
