A religious person may say how could you ignore the majesty of god and heaven and all its eternity for your short life on earth. Whereas a non-religious person could see this as, why would you waste your gaze to the stars as a search for non existent paradise instead of awing in the wonder of the universe.

West Detroit....and Maynard grew up in MIchigan, for a good part of his life. Skied with his dad. I tell folks, Pink Floyd makes you wonder, TOOL makes you THINK.
This song brings me closer to god. I know tool isn’t exactly the most Christian band, but I think this song helps me to humble myself and realize our mistakes. Time and time again I deny my creator. The one that gave me this beautiful life. The creator of this beautiful planet. The beautiful starts in space and time. I would also like to thank you lord. For always giving us a chance to prove ourselves faithful, despite our evil and selfish nature. I wish to see you in your kingdom and serve you eternally alongside my brothers and sisters in Christ. Amen to the most high.
Our blessed lord can use even the most staunch critics of his existence to carry out his will. This band is describing exactly why God sent his only son, our blessed Lord, to die for mankind's sin. Without Jesus.. we are lost and cut off from the glory of god.
"Repugnant is a creature who would squander the ability to lift an eye to heaven, conscious of his fleeting time here." Only Maynard could fit such a sentence into a song, perfectly rhythmically and melodically.
My mom died from cancer during the pandemic and I couldn't be there ...I've always had a deep emotional connection with tool and apc and they're music. I instantly started crying when I read your experience and I realized that feeling these emotions through your experience helped me immensely, greatly and magically spiral onwards towards infinity. This wasn't expected but I thank you more than you could ever imagine and I expect that I am destined to pass an equally magical experience to someone else who will cherish the moment and realize how little time we have to be here alive and breathing. Thank you
It starts off slow and simple, then it goes hard, and ends soft and simple. It's just what evil does. It starts off I'm infancy, and eventually destroys itself bringing it back to serenity. Songs that point this out are heaven and hell and I can ride my bike with no handlebars.
My dad is 79. I introduced him to Tool today with one of my favorites. He’s hard of hearing so I told him “that’s ok, Tool is best when played loud”. He was just sitting there slowly nodding in time with an amazed look on his face.
My grandma is 91, I play guitar and sing for her at least once a week. She was a fantastic opera singer, then singing teacher, but just can’t sing anymore due to her age. Her favourite cover I do is ‘Sober’. I don’t do it gently. Good music is good music.
Your dad at 79 has no idea how lucky he is to listen to probably the best band in the galaxy, my dad is 58 and said to me "I would probably love them guys if I just found the time" 🤣 I'm going to keep trying to find him that time to listen to these gods of music because he won't regret it
Most incredibly talented music and lyric writers hands down. I’m 51 and have seen so many bands and listened to so many. I feel absolutely privileged to have grown up with Tool and their incredible music. So deep and makes you think. No sheep here, only incredible minds and talent, bar none. Thank you Tool your music has gotten me through so much!!
6:25 is like that part of an extraordinarily edgy fight scene where the choreography is so realistic that you don't know if the protagonist is going to survive, but then he starts getting the upperhand
The drum build up from 4:05 - 5:24 is absolutely insane! I remember hearing this song for the first time stoned & listening to drums while the entire song built! The way Danny brings in the Toms at the end just before the distorted guitar hits, I remember jumping out of my seat in excitement! Couldn't believe what I just heard! Tool Are Band In The World......PERIOD!!!!
That's the great thing about Tool...you've heard a song a 100 times before, but on that 101st time, you're still hearing something new, something you hadn't noticed before!
This song is so majestic, ethereal, alluring, aching, transcending.....TOOL at their very best. There will NEVER be anyone who even comes close to their perfection. Simply divine.
an older friend introduced me to tool when I was 15, I'm almost 18 now. I read comments from older people saying how they've just discovered tool, and wished they discovered it earlier. my life has just started, but I feel a deep sense of gratitude, because I know that through the highs and lows that i will face, I will have one of the greatest works of art to turn to.
I was born in 1983 and discovered them right around 1995 so just a couple of years after their first full length album. Kind of “lost touch” with their music for a while after that (not sure why) but rediscovered them in my late 30s and now I listen to them daily!
I've been listening to them for close to 30 years. Puscifer is great too. Undertow plays loud enough the neighbors complain. Tell them just enjoy the tunes.
wishing you well on your journey. For me, at 46, I have always been deeply plugged into powerful music and would not do it differently if I could. I found tool when I was in high school in the early 90s and fell in love instantly. May you find healing when you need it, power when it serves you, and a wisdom that takes many a lifetime to understand. This music is what you make of it. It can be fun to listen to and it can change your life in ways you may not understand at your age. Welcome aboard!
Of course putin wants to do the opposite, rather than divide in two he wants it _all_ for himself, spoilt little brat that he is. It's because there are others like him, though, that things get ripped in two.
Agreed, I've heard em all. For some reason I listen to this one the most! I love it, all music made by them is a masterpiece in some point of your life. I just can't help but play this one over & over. I could listen to it on repeat all day ever day SERIOUSLY!!
I saw both of them live, with Linkin Park, at Epicenter in Southern California, in 2009. Alice In Chains was incredible live. Chester was, Chester. I took his first name as my middle name. TOOL was insane, as Maynard had broken his leg, but still came to the festival. That is the only time I have seen Maynard perform in front of Danny, Adam, and Justin. He never does.
I'd like to believe Maynard would respect my reply here. Man was God's slaves, we freed ourselves from his chains only to allow man to create another god to bow before "Government". We are only free when we let go of all the chains and imaginary boundaries we create
I can remember that feeling I got; the first time I heard Tool. Being 14. Walking through the living room with MTV on. Sober comes on…and I’m drawn towards the tv like a moth to a flame. Caught up in the sound; mesmerized by the video…Feeling something..different. Part of me thought it was Magical. And all of me realized it was just; Necessary. Needed in the world. Needed in my world. This song; gave me the same feeling the first time I heard it too. That’s all. ❤️ much love.
i got into tool back in ther 90's and the first song of theres heard was sober so mezmerizing that im still listening to them to this day, and until i die.
I don't believe for one second that these four musical geniuses just happened to find each other. No, they were brought together by a powerful force that is far greater than we can even imagine. And it has proven this by giving us TOOL. THE MOST INCREDIBLE, UNTOUCHABLE BAND OF ALL TIME AND BEYOND
That's the beauty of the universe. Itself is the force that creates the causes and effects for great beauty to happen, the right people to meet, and the correct circumstances for our imaginations to run wild. We CAN imagine it, see it, if we simply open our minds.
I just realized today that this song is about Solomon's trial, in which two women both claimed to be the mother of the same child. Solomon threatened to cut the child in half and give each woman one half. The women's (or rather, one of the women's) sin was thinking it was all about themselves, rather than seeing themselves as part of a greater whole. The true mother understood this intuitively, and gave up the child so that the child could at least live (Solomon then gave the child to the real mother). But the two women are just a metaphor. The whole world is clamoring for ownership over a planet that fundamentally isn't theirs, thinking it's all about themselves. It's petty and pathetic, and so, to give perspective, Maynard borrows from Solomon and suggests: "cut it all right in two."
@@thomasdecorail8825 The Pot? Jambi? Wings II? Whole album is wild and should be listened to from start to finish, as each track only has its true impact when it’s listened to with what preceded it, and what is to follow it. Not many albums achieve this.

On one hand I'm very envious of future generations that will have all of Tool's music available, but on the other I'm glad to be alive now. New Tool album is one of the things to live for.
This is easily the most underrated song on this album. I never hear anyone mention this song, yet it's on an entirely different level. And that groove that kicks at 6:45 to 7:10....damn!
They are aliens, this is the most trippy and everlasting music that someone said does not age, or go out, its just getting better. The riffs and drum sections, from tribal to just pure heavy druming, with out of world sequences and timmings, you just loose your self in this easily. Great stuff:) This was my band in 90s when i dreamed of drumming this band songs, and now is 2024 and still listnening, and breaking my brain when trying to drum along. This is my evergreen band. So glad i managed to se them few times live.

Opiate - The scared and confused angry child. Undertow - The child has grown, and is still not happy. Facing and beginning to fight his problems. Ænima - He's still fighting, figuring things out. Still in pain, but he can see the other side now. Lateralus - He isn't quite at peace yet, but he's past the nitty gritty. He's growing and finding himself in the world and the cosmos. Exploring his spirituality. 10,000 Days - He now thinks back, and watching the present day. He, once knowing the pain and struggle the people of earth face understands whats happening. He chastises, tutors and tries to guide people in the right way. Yes, this album is spiritual but, it is very earth focused. (Mostly). For to further your spiritual path, you must first understand your earthly self. Without a ground to stand on, you cannot fight like he has. Fear Inoculum - He's begun to move past his pain now, and continues to guide those around him. He teaches the lessons and learns them along side us. Tool is a personal journey to me, this is what I've gathered so far. (Or some of what I've gathered) (I left out their tape before Opiate because it's basically Opiate with less quality. Still like it tho) Edit: Glad to see there’s some similar outlooks out here. Tool’s always gonna have a special spot in my heart

@@BayandurPogosyan It was, some classical composers tuned to A=432Hz, but now there are uploads of songs that are edited to the pitch of 432Hz and people get the placebo effect, thinking that the 432Hz version sounds better or some go the extra mile and straight up believe that they feel more relaxed or focused when listening to the 432Hz version. There's some very limited evidence and theories that suggest that 432Hz is the most resonant frequency with the Universe or something like that. It's all a hoax and a placebo, basically. While A=432Hz does have an effect and it does bring a more mellow quality as opposed to A=440Hz, the instruments themselves must be tuned to A=432Hz, which is not the same as changing the pitch from A=440Hz to A=432Hz in software. Same principle as slowing down a song in software and playing it at a slower tempo.
@@darkySp all evidence I've seen is that frequency resonance is more dependent on the acoustics than anything else. Just play different pitches at a high enough volume in different rooms, and you'll see what I mean. The rest of it, yeah, it does affect the character of the sound in a small way, but it also might make it sound a bit out of tune. Also, you're right, most people do not understand musical instruments don't produce a fixed-frequency sound wave you can just manipulate, there's a lot of overtones and other stuff that goes into the body of the sound, and just changing the frequency does not recompose the body, it just shifts it.
As I listen to this song while leaving my family, friends, and girlfriend behind in Syria, I am overwhelmed with a mix of emotions. The haunting melody and lyrics seem to perfectly capture the intense feelings of loss and separation that I am experiencing. The lyrics "Angels on the sideline, Puzzled and amused, Why did Father give these humans free will?" hit particularly hard, as I struggle to understand why we must be torn apart by war and conflict, and why we must suffer such great pain and loss. At the same time, the song's message of unity and the call to "divide and fall in the end" offer a glimmer of hope, reminding me that we are all connected in some way and that perhaps someday we will find a way to overcome our differences and come together as one. Overall, listening to this song while leaving behind everything I know and love is a difficult and emotional experience, but I hope that it will help me find some sense of peace and comfort during this challenging time.

CageFightingNuns Underated by whom? Not Tool fans, surely. Perhaps fans of Michael Bolton or...Stryper. So I guess I'm agreeing in a roundabout way, an incredible album that has helped me get through the past 13 years.
I always think of them as two sides of the same coin. Lateralus is a celebration of the elation that comes with one transcending the limitations of human society. 10,000 Days is the somber acceptance that comes when one realizing that one must still coexist with said society until it can catch up to you.

Tool is an experience. No other artist except maybe Hans Zimmer can take control of mind and body the way Tool does.
Musically it starts off soft, quiet and beautiful. Eventually goes into brutally flawless. Seamlessly.
It starts off slow and simple, then it goes hard, and ends soft and simple. It's just what evil does. It starts off I'm infancy, and eventually destroys itself bringing it back to serenity. Songs that point this out are heaven and hell and I can ride my bike with no handlebars.
Key word of survival- brutal...tradegy, elation, pain, numbness..

This is one of the greatest songs ever created. Long live *TOOL*
Tool is the best Rock band ever in my opinion
I also think its about the duality of man in general, inspired by that. If you watch the video. It's everything

If anyone is interested, TOOL tunes their guitar and bass to a frequency of 444hz not 440. If they can’t get the sound just right
Thank you!
I was expecting this to be one of those dreamy, pretentiously spiritual comments about 432Hz resonating with their G-spot or something.
@@darkySp wasn't it just a competing standard. After all, you need two instruments to be in tune with each other.
Overall, listening to this song while leaving behind everything I know and love is a difficult and emotional experience, but I hope that it will help me find some sense of peace and comfort during this challenging time.
very well said...
One day we monkeys will see each other as brothers and sisters... I wish you find your peace ❤
Recently started appreciating Tool. This is first time hearing this. It makes me wonder what else I am missing. WOW
Make sure you give Maynards other bands a shot while you're at it - Pusifer and A Perfect Circle
Well, you have recently found one of the best bands ever, so congrats. Now do whatever you can to catch Tool live on this latest tour. You’re welcome in advance.
Everything.

One of the best band to take u on a musical adventure ...love tool..
Absolutely incredible- the energy it provokes makes me feel alive
Tool has opened me up tremendously and spiritually over the years. I can’t tell you how many purely magical experiences I’ve had listening to their music, not to mention while seeing them in concert twice in the early aughts. Their music has helped me burst wide open and discover abilities… Tool is simply unparalleled in my world.
"How they survive so misguided is a mistery... "
So perfect...

This is one of these Songs i think everybody should hear.
Peace Keeper i cannot disagree with your statement at all.
If more people could grasp the message of this song, society would change.
I dont think people can understand though. Its part of the human condition
It is a good song
I dont think even half of the worlds population would understand
Peace Keeper
Requires to much work.
Most want easy.
The proper way to build a progression. 10/10. Perfection.
This song is even more relevant now than it was upon first release
Ever since one Oct 7th
One of the greatest songs of all time. Perfectly encapsulates human civilization.
Right in Two Lyrics
[Verse 1]
Angels on the sideline
Puzzled and amused
Why did Father give these humans free will?
Now they're all confused
[Chorus 1]
Don't these talking monkeys know that Eden has enough to go around?
Plenty in this holy garden, silly monkeys
Where there's one you're bound to divide it
Right in two
[Verse 2]
Angels on the sideline
Baffled and confused
Father blessed them all with reason
And this is what they choose?
(This is what they choose)
[Chorus 2]
Monkey killing monkey killing monkey over pieces of the ground
Silly monkeys, give them thumbs, they forge a blade
And where there's one they're bound to divide it
Right in two
Right in two
[Chorus 3]
Monkey killing monkey killing monkey over pieces of the ground
Silly monkeys, give them thumbs, they make a club and beat their brother down
How they've survived so misguided is a mystery
Repugnant is a creature who would squander the ability
To lift an eye to heaven, conscious of his fleeting time here
[Bridge 1]
Cut and divide it all right in two
Cut and divide it all right in two
Cut and divide it all right in two
Cut and divide it all right in two
[Interlude]
[Bridge 2]
Fight over the clouds, over wind, over sky and
Fight over life, over blood, over air and light
Over love, over sun, over another
Fight for the time, for the one, for the rise and
[Verse 3]
Angels on the sideline again
Benched along with patience and reason
Angels on the sideline again
Wondering where this tug of war will end
[Outro]
Cut and divide it all right in two
Cut and divide it all right in two
Cut and divide it all right in two
Right in two
Right in two
I would consider bridge 1 and the outro as the chorus and the rest are verses, but that's just how I hear it.
Thanks bud from Canada 🇨🇦!
Thank you Churchdog.
Thank you!
Thank you
This song should be known to the entire human race how often does the relevance of these lyrics show up in existence and future of humanity
Any time you think God has forgotten us, come listen to this, and realize we are the ones who forgot God
Blessed to you Brother
We just realised it was all a big con
lol, what?
Awesome
10,000 days was a massively underrated album. I put it right up there with Lateralus as co-favorite Tool albums.
nah it wasn't underrated, any smart tool fan will tell you that each album was better than the previous, so fear inoculum should be better than 10,000 days
IT was underrated because some people felt it was as solid as the previous 3 records.
heres my ranking of their albums
1. Aneima
2.Undertow
3.Fear Innoculum
4.10,000 Days
5. Opiate
6.Lateralus
TOOL is not a Door, TOOL IS A KEY!
