    Great video, 1 important tip, always wash the paste off when you finish as it will blunt the blade if left on...

      That is a very important tip, always wash it off that’s why you should use a water based paste so it washes off easily, thank you for pointing that out if I missed it out on the video 👍

    Many thanks, just done my Suffolk punch 14sk. Dead easy after watching your video. Found a double ended tin of chemico grinding paste in local motor spares shop. It has course paste in one end and fine in the other end. Used the course paste instead of the sandpaper strip and it took the burrs off nicely, then used the fine paste as you instructed. First time I've done it in my 10yr old mower. It cuts pieces of paper really well now.

      Nice one pal, pleased to have helped. Is the paste water or oil based, hopefully water based as it’s easy to clean off👍

    Hi, I just found your video and I'm really glad I did.
    I've recently bought a Qualcast 35s classic and although it's in very good condition, I have started a full restoration project on it, so your tutorial will be very helpful when I reach the final stage of sharpening the cylinder.
    I've sent for the oxide strip of Amazon and also the Chemco paste, if I can achieve the same results as yourself I'll be a happy chappy.
    Thanks for posting and best wishes from Northern Ireland 👍

      Great comment, I also added the grass rake that goes just before the blades. Got it off an 14 inch atco balmoral. Enjoy your qualcast it’s a great start to cylinder mowing.

    Does the stationary bottom blade need to be sharpened too? If so, how?

    • @unionjack100980
      @unionjack100980  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The bottom blade gets sharpened when it’s time to take your blades for a regrind. However I’ve run my angle grinder across it just to get rid of any debris and give it a shiny edge. By the time it needs regrinding you will probably need a new bottom blade. Hope this helps 👍

      Try using a grinder to sharpen the bottom plate

    What is the difference between the Atco Balmoral 14sk and the Qualcast Classic 35s, apart from the engine. How much would you expect to pay for a good Balmoral.

    You don’t need the backslapping paste.

    • @unionjack100980

      It’s a water based 120 grit paste. Thanks for watching. You can get oil based paste but it’s not easy to get off .

    • @unionjack100980
      @unionjack100980  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi graham, the back lapping paste is from chemico and it is 120 grit so kind of a fine grit. It is water based so it washes off easy after back lapping. Just remember to have your blades turning the opposite way. The paste can be expensive but it’s an absolute must if you have a cylinder mower.let me know how you get on and if you have anymore questions don’t hesitate to message me 👍

    Where did you get that fixed (front) lawn rake from … ? I can’t find one anywhere.

    • @unionjack100980
      @unionjack100980  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi Tim, do you mean the rake that sits in front of the blades or the cassette, either way I got both off eBay. To get the rake that sits in front of the blades I had to buy a complete front roller system off of a atco balmoral as mine didn’t have the slots for the rake to attach to the front roller assembly. Hope this helps, let me know if you have anymore questions 👍
