    Your lawnmower blade really didn't look that bad before sharpening. The machining marks from the manufacturer were still quite apparent and there were no noticeable chips or dented nicks to the cutting surface (nice camera operator zoom articulation!).
    Amazon, Home Depot, and Lowe's all carry the "Arnold Blade Sharpening and Balancing Kit" for under $10.00, but only Amazon allows the consumer to choose from multiple sharpening replacements ranging from one up to six. The only unknown about the different sharpening stones is, what is the specified grit of all the different stone manufacturers and are they all the same or are they different? Is there some factory in China that supplies all the different manufacturers with essentially the same product to be marketed under different trademark names?
    The best blade sharpening solution I've found is the, All American Sharpener Model 5005 Generation 2, which will adjust and lock at angles from 15 to 45 degrees, by 5 degree increments, but at over $210.00 this is beyond most homeowner's budgets as new blades can be purchased from $5.00 to $25.00. Amazon wants $269.99 plus sales tax for this gizmo which equates to purchasing 10-each new lawnmower blades.
    I just replaced the original 22-inch blade on our 6-year old Toro Mow-n-Stow with a new blade from The Home Depot that had several nicks but wasn't really deeply pitted, chipped, or damaged so I figured I spend a few bucks to sharpen the old blade to keep as a spare.
    The big thing is, just make sure that once the blade is back in place to torque the blade-bolt to the OEM specification which for our Mow-n-Stow was 60 Ft-Lb. I'm rather certain that no one would want a blade vibrating loose and causing injury to either machine or to individual.

    Not bad at all for the money. My bench grinder is my go-to, though.

    I've seen a few similar videos, but none talk about the importance of balancing the blade after you sharpen it. Is that important, or does it not seem to matter? I don't see how you could really expect to balance a blade, unless it's brand new, because my used blade has caked-on grass and other stuff that I can't get off even with a wire brush. That said, I'm using the Arnold system and my blade is never balanced. I hope that's ok. Thanks!

    • @SupremeServicesLawnCare
      @SupremeServicesLawnCare  4 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Yea it's important but don't go crazy ..just don't want it really off balance ..

      I bought the same one and it comes with a balancer. If it's not balanced you will get some serious vibes that might ruin your mower if you keep using.

    Not a bad idea to stick it in the truck just in case with a cordless impact driver...I will stick with my angle grinder tho!!!

      @SupremeServicesLawnCare  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Fred C.C. yea i think its pretty cool to have when ur in bind or if your in a certain situation ...hell is $8.00 what you got to lose , and you get blade balancer anyway

    • @Miguel195211
      @Miguel195211 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      The problem sharpening with the blade still on the mower is that you can't balance the blade. You need to make sure you have a balance blade otherwise it will vibrate and hurt the mower.

    If the blade has any REAL use at all to it, then this thing sucks. If you don't let the blades get dull before you use this, it's probably OK. However, most people that bring me lawn mower blades to sharpen, only do so after they're very gone. This thing doesn't work very well on those.

    • @SupremeServicesLawnCare
      @SupremeServicesLawnCare  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah.. i agree ,but if you do regularly it will put a decent point on them

      I literally just got done with a blade off a 1984 Coast-to-Coast(!) push mower. One edge was near pristine, but the other had a huge gouge from a rock. On the good edge, this thing was great and quick. On the other edge, the nylon backing got torn up and now the whole thing is basically useless. The new bits are $3.49 at Menards, though. So, the time saved on the one edge is worth the cost. Great video, by the way.
