  • Let's look at some techniques for photobashing in procreate on an iPad with an apple pencil. A photobash can also be referred to photo manipulation, photo compositing, or matte painting. We are going to talk about sourcing stock photos, removing backgrounds, using curves, color balance, and how to pull it all together with digital painting.

    Thank you for all of these photo bashing videos. You are clearly having fun playing with the beautiful pieces you create, which is welcoming and inviting to those of us watching. Also- you explain and teach things with clarity. You're a champion, Sara! I'm going through some serious burn-out around illustration, but trying this new (to me) art form has helped me to step back towards creating again! 💜

    I feel like this level of creativity is like.. a next level. For me as a user of Photoshop only on Pc, being now interested into buying a portable device to work on the road and seeing all these videos studying what I should buy next… this for me seems so interesting, having to transmute what I have in mind into new ways of making it real on the screen using other methods and workflow I’m used with because photoshop doesn’t offer a lot of options on iPad as on pc.. for the moment I just can’t imagine myself changing my workflow just for more portability so all I can do is admire other people that can do that. Good job and keep up the good work!

    This was an excellent tutorial and a pleasure to watch! Thank you for taking the time to write down notes and explain your thinking as you put this together! I was expecting once again to not get a lot out of watching yet another how-to art video on youtube, but you certainly took the mystery out of photo bashing and I think I understand it well enough to begin to make my own bashes!

    Another little tip is if you’re zooming in a lot you can set up a reference window of your image. Under “Canvas” turn on Reference a little window will appear that show a smaller version of your image (just make sure “Canvas” is selected).

    hey i watched many many many videos of digital art/photobashing/concept art and i have to say i love it :) can i use procreate on every ipad or what would you recommend? and is procreate art compareable to photoshop? lg

    • @SparrowSprings
      @SparrowSprings  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yep, it should work on any ipad. If you have used photoshop then procreate will be a breeze. It’s a very stripped down program, but you can still accomplish so many things. Super easy to learn 😁

    Huh!?! So that’s the term used for what I do with my digital art. Sorry I can’t use this image you created, because I don’t own a mobile phone of any type. But that was a nice piece of work. It looks as though your able to create from beginning to end quite quickly. Thanks for the info on curves and the other thing you mentioned. However, I tend to use multiple layers and tweak the opacity and the change the filter and positive and negative of the photo I’m using. Which from looking at your work flow is taking me longer to get to my final image. If you’re still using your iPad Air. I’m very impressed, because with my old iPad Pro I’m maxing out the limits of what I’m able to produce. I’ll be upgrading to the new M1 iPad Pro to increase my head room of how much I can bash together. I hesitate to ask your opinion on what I’ve done, because I feel there’s a lot I have yet to learn, but still would like to know what the quality of the work I’ve already produced is like. But yours is the only one I value, because of the way you create your art. I used to DJ so I refer to my form if art as EDMpicmxr. Love your work!
    Sorry for my tardiness. When I texted you last I hadn’t had any sleep. So I’ve been in a stuck position of inability to move in any direction. I’m amazed what you’re able to do with your iPad. Once I realized that that was my issue I couldn’t do anything that I want. You have the latest iPad Air, which means you have more ram on board as well as a newer and more powerful processor than what I have. My iPad Pro is 6 years old. So procreate gets bogged down, and it’s even worse when I try to do any video editing with luma fusion. So you can view my work on Procreate folio with my user name EDMpicmxr, and use this email address. I don’t use any other social media platform. I’ll be busy offloading my projects which are in limbo until I can get to them for completion, or I finally buy the new M1 iPad Pro. But I’d rather be creating content than dealing with this other stuff, because it been a while since I’ve posted anything recently.

    • @SparrowSprings
      @SparrowSprings  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I am so glad you enjoyed the video. The full process took me about 4 hours, but a piece similar to this used to take me 30 hours. Time is one of the most important factors when it comes to art, so if there’s any I can do to speed up the workflow without sacrificing quality, I will take it!
      I am still using my gen 8 ipad and apple pencil which hasn’t hindered me at all so far. I would be happy to give you some critique on your work if that’s something you would like. Just head over to my website and send me an email, or you can tag me on a different social media platform if you find that easier 😁

    Loved it, I wish you would’ve done it slower for those of us that are not too keen in these procedures. But I also understand that it was a lengthy tutorial and it would’ve taken you a long time to go through it. Maybe if you can come up with a simpler and shorter tutorial including some of the techniques you used in the horn-tree animal!!!! Again, thank you for your time and your talent.

    • @SparrowSprings

      I am glad you enjoyed it! Yes I understand the struggle, and it’s a two fold issue trying to create videos that perform well on TH-cam (and not creating a monster video to edit!) while still giving value to the viewer. I have had enough interest in the individual techniques that I may try to do a series out of it.

      Unfortunately it’s the nature of TH-cam as to the length of videos that perform better, but if enough people show interest I am more than willing to post a full length real time video 😁
