Actually a very difficult day to day life. A lot of illness, injuries and early death. Parents and older children worked non-stop morning to night. The actual Little House books were a bit more realistic than the TV series.
As I recall, Willy and Nellie's bedrooms were up those stairs in the mercantile, and the door in the back led to a very fancy parlor and dining room. I agree that the Ingalls home was by far the home-iest in all of Walnut Grove, because it was filled with so much family laughter and love. Thank you so much for making this video!

What a great tour of Walnut Grove! Little House was one of my favorite shows when I was a kid. Although the house was modest, I'm sure it was built sturdy and well because Charles built it himself with all the integrity that was him. This house would probably sell in today's tiny house market, especially with those wood beams, hardwood floors and the sturdy materials that Charles would have used. Just needs an indoor bathroom!
It doesn't look to me like they would have had room. But this wasn't the first family where the parents had to, shall we say, be very careful to keep an eye out for when the children were asleep. And they won't be the last. To this day, there are plenty of families in impoverished countries who live in huts where the parents deal with the same problem.
In real life, Carrie slept in a trundle bed until she was old enough to share with Mary and Laura. In Little House in the Big Woods, Mary and Laura are in the trundle bed.
Another great house tour. One of my favorite TV shows when i was a kid....i remember mama and my siblings watched this show a lot. To have a cottage home similar with this in the mountain.....i am already contented even without any modern furniture or technology . Beautiful home.♥♥♥
@@MarinaCoatesMockingbirdLane oh yeah...just to make sure there is a bathroom. But i guess during that time....they let the bathroom separate from the house.
I worked graveyard many years ago, a co worker would give me a ride home every morning. While all I could think about was the bed, she'd rush home to watch reruns of Little House. I used to tease her and call it "Little shack in the middle of the desert". You did a great job as usual.
This is another one of my favorites. Just like your Waltons house video these two shows The Waltons and Little House I enjoy because of the story scripts of the shows. The crew of both shows made both shows real and wonderful to the point where I couldn't miss an episode. Thank you for sharing. I enjoyed it very much. 🙂💖 Have a great day.
Great work- I love what you do. This show was very much part of growing up for me; I would have been around Laura's age, and I watched, usually with my mom, from the pilot film on. I have a vivid memory- accurate or not- of the house being surrounded by wolves at night and the family trapped inside. Years later this came back to me in a dream in a very uncertain moment in my life. I was leaving for art school, across the country in California in a few days, extremely nervous about it, and I dreamed I was in that house, surrounded by wolves. Every time they attacked I had a perfect weapon in hand and everyone was safe. I woke up feeling great. It was my mind's way of telling me I was equal to the challenge and was going to be o.k. And I was...
I moved into a dorm in college in August 1985. Two of my fraternity brothers lived next door and they watched little house on the prairie every weekday from 2-3pm and we would go eat dinner at 3:30. We gave them a hard time for liking the show and they gave my roommate and I a hard time for watching the cartoon GI Joe from 3-3:30. They both graduated in May 1987 and 1 is a Facebook friend. I like to think they still watch it or have the whole series on DVD.
In 1976, I had the privilege of visiting the closed set of Little House on the Prairie. The layout of course was nothing like this as it had to be camera accessible. There were no "upstairs" rooms as I recall. The girls bedroom was on the same level as everything else. Even most, if not all outside scenes were filmed indoors for better sound control. Wouldn't want an airplane flying over while filming! Thank you for this wonderful rendition.

Why would you say that most, if not all, OUTDOOR scenes were shot indoors? That's not true at all! Unless you mean nighttime scenes. But no, outdoor scenes, like in the town of Walnut Grove, were mostly shot in Simi Valley, California... outdoors.
Beautifully done! Thank you for sharing. If only parents today would incorporate these beautiful principal's and point their moral compass north to raise their children in this same pride and kindness. Although our technology and economies are much more advanced, it costs nothing to be humble and kind. Yet, it's at everyone's expense to have such an entitled and narcissistic filled society today. Thank you for bringing us back to the place we felt most safe, it's like this was a part of our family life, it takes me to that warmest and happiest place of my childhood.
What a sweet little guest you had on this episode 😊 I did not grow up watching this show but I listened to the audiobooks last summer and I fell in love with them, I thought there were so many nuggets of wisdom. Your tour was lovely, as always! Their little cabin looks so cozy, I love all the natural materials. And my boy was very interested in the ladder! Who doesn't love a loft!?
I bet part of the reason why this was one of the rare TV homes where the interior matched the exterior was because the house--and store and church--were so simple that it was much easier to get them to match up.
They kept it pretty true to the books as well...with one exception Laura describes that the upstairs also held a lot of their dried goods and food, she and Mary would use the pumpkins as stools and tables. The books are still some of my favorite.
I have made many other homes too. You can see all of the other TV and movie home tours I've made here: th-cam.com/users/MarinaCoavideos?view_as=subscriber
Too bad they didn't make the loft like in On the Banks of Plum Creek. In that book the loft went across the whole length of the house..If they built the loft that way on Little House, the Ingallses would have had more room in the loft when they adopted Albert, and then James and Cassandra. They could have used half the loft for Albert and James, and half for Carrie and Cassandra.
Marina, I enjoy your videos so much. I am glad to know I am not the only one who is so fascinated with the sets of these shows. I would always become so distracted during the show in figuring out the layout and how it all connected. I especially enjoyed this episode of Little House. Another video well done!

I loved this series as a kid, thank you. You did a wonderful job, the horse was a nice surprise. I don’t know if you’ve ever done any British series homes, but “Keeping up Appearances” had a lovely, interesting interior. 🏡
Great video! I remember watching Monday nights at 8pm on NBC when I grew up. As a 12 year old kid, I cried when they blew up the town in the finale. I had basically known the buildings my whole life and it was the end of an era.
Impressive job, Marina! This has been a long time coming. I agree the set designers did a great job with LHOTP! The buildings were ingenious, and good point that the exteriors matched the interiors! So smart they made the church a multi-purpose building; makes total sense. The show’s sets have some of the best “sense of place”-to use the architectural term-of any television show! Loved that interview with Karen; she sure looks great for her age! I’m surprised you don’t have 10x the subscribers. But then maybe what you do here is more niche…Perhaps that makes it all the more special for us architectural aficionados.
The last 12-18 months have been more than challenging. I live in Lee County Florida and we are STILL recovering from Hurricane Ian. I started listening/watching everything “True Crime” to occupy my mind. Very interesting video! You’ve inspired me to go back and watch LHOP from the very beginning. The show and Laura Ingalls Wilder’s books were a source of tremendous comfort for me growing up.
Sorry, I lost my last sentence. I meant to include that listening to so much “true crime” content is very emotionally disturbing much of the time. I’m really looking forward to going back to the very beginning of LHOP and watching/listening to it all. You’re video inspired me to go back and “revisit” LHOP and I truly believe that will positively affect my thoughts and attitude. Sounds a little strange to anyone who doesn’t love the show and books like we do! 💕 Great video and new sub
Marina, have you considered doing the homes from Sarah Plain and Tall? There's four unique homes in that movie: Sarah's home with her brother Will in Maine and the home of her aunts next door along with Jacob Whitten's home, Matthew and Matggie's place, and like Little House, there's also astore. I'm sure it would be a big job, but such a beautifully done movie! Thank you for sharing your talents with us
Over a year ago I sent you a video of my recreation of Nelly's Restaurant 🍽 on a 3D computer program similar to yours (I'm sure yours is much better though), and I remember you saying you planned to do some places from the show some day! So I was excited when I saw that you posted this video. 😀 I've been looking forward to it. It was fun touring the Little House, the church/school, and Oleson's Mercantile! Great job.
Thanks for another nice look at some classic sets. Would it be possible to tour the Olesons' private residence areas in the store. I know there was a kitchen & dining room & maybe a parlor behind the store, and there were likely 3 upstairs bedrooms & maybe even a bathroom upstairs.
I would be very interested in that content too. I was recently thinking about the episode where Nellie came home for a visit. Nancy was living with the Oleson’s and using Nellie’s old bedroom.
@@amandanegrete1306 Yes, Nellie had to share Nancy's bed, and Alison A. mentioned that she loved when Nellie plugged Nancy's nose to stop Nancy from snoring.
Fantastic job! I love how you left the unplastered corner wall by Carrie's bed. Always wondered why Charles never fixed that wall, lol. Also looking forward to The Partridge Family home tour in the future! 😉

Thank you so much. The simplicity of the set design & decor certainly never overshadowed the characters. I saw the black horse thru the wavy glass window. Finding your details is a bonus - and a big thing in this were the delicate placement of shadows via t the school house windows. Really one of your best tours.
Thanks for adding this one! Though the house was small it was so nice to see. I always kind of wondered if there was a wall between the parents' part of the back room and Carrie's, I guess there wasn't. So nice that you added the school/church and Oleson's Mercantile. Later they had a restaurant too, but that was much later. Love seeing these houses. Thanks for listening to our requests.

Another superb job! Such an enduring classic show. Its timeless. So remarkable with your designing expertise and highly interesting and nostalgic. Indeed, it was a small space but they were incredible in putting it altogether. I recall watching the pilot back in the day at my aunt and uncles. We were mesmerized and charmed. That pilot truly set the foundation not only for the house but the whole show.We learned about the strong faith and enduring spirit because indeed there were many tragedies and hardships. Carolyn and Charles complimented each other with love an optimistic thread that was always there. I also thought the horse was a sweet touch!
Hi Miriam! Nice job, young lady. Same to your mama! I love these tours. LHOTP was a staple in my childhood home, as were the books. I would receive one or two at Christmas and birthdays until I had the complete set. All my siblings read them, also. Thank you, once again, for bringing more childhood memories up close & personal.
I loved it, even though it was small, it still felt like home, and I never knew they add on a kitchen on the show, I should've known about it but I didn't.
Yes - that guy from Buck Rogers came and added on the kitchen. He was flirting mildly with Caroline, and the girls got the wrong end of the stick and thought they were up to it.
Like Laura...I was also 10 years old when this show aired. It was my favorite show at the time. I could relate so much to the story since my grandparents lived such a life in a rural area and when I lived with them I experienced this type of living which I miss very much. It was so simple then. Just now seeing this video as I happened to come upon it. TH-cam doesn’t always seem to notify reliably. I was thinking that very thing that you stated; how the interiors and exteriors of these buildings matched. The set designers did a good job. Each of the buildings, especially the little house, were very unique, unforgettable, well designed! They all made total sense, each so functional, and feeling so real. That interview with Karen Grassle, which I previously watched, was great.
As always, I LOVE your channel and I loved seeing this particular house. As with a ton of little girls who grew up in the 1970's, I know I am not alone in that I would think that I was secretly in that bedroom too....during all the times that they were on tv. As usual, very nice. I grew up watching Little House on the Prairie and I loved it. There was talk of a reboot, but I am sure they scrapped the idea. I doubt it would sell today. Come classics can't be duplicated.
I grew up watching this TV Show and loved it. Loved when Charles built that house and seen other houses that were lovelier, but hey, when it's only one man building it, I'd say that it was awesome. I noticed though when the video was touring the main part of the house, through the one window, there was a white picket fencing. Sorry, but I've never seen any fences around their house in the series though and there was no trees directly in front of that window either. Across from their 'road' there was a huge field and to the right of that house, through that same window, was their barn. There was also an outhouse in front of that barn ... up the hill, facing the house and later a guest house was added. Oh, how we used to have great TV shows. Love love love your channel and how you show us so much of what we took for granted back then. Thank you.
Glad you like the channel. It took me so long to make these 3 homes [150 hours] there just wouldn't be time to make all of the things we see out the windows. I would love to though. Maybe someday.

Grew up watching this show. The Ingalls house was so efficiently designed and you really got the sense that everything in it was made by one person. And yes, even the other simple country homes always had a tiny bit of "luxury" the Ingalls never had, even if it was just a single plush chair or rooms separated by a door. My favorite scenes always involved Mrs Olesen or Nellie. Plus I always had rather "fancy" taste as a child (🙄) so I enjoyed scenes in the Olesen's Victorian parlor. GlAd you liked it. And I agree, both shows made it feel real. It's like we got a window into that time period.
A man out of town started building the kitchen while Charles was working out of town. That episode was wild.😮
Oh,my. I love that story. And how fitting that you were in their home, which maybe represented your home life?
I moved into a dorm in college in August 1985. Two of my fraternity brothers lived next door and they watched little house on the prairie every weekday from 2-3pm and we would go eat dinner at 3:30. We gave them a hard time for liking the show and they gave my roommate and I a hard time for watching the cartoon GI Joe from 3-3:30. They both graduated in May 1987 and 1 is a Facebook friend. I like to think they still watch it or have the whole series on DVD.
I love picturing that. 😊
Thanks for sharing that. 😊
I have made many other homes too. You can see all of the other TV and movie home tours I've made here: th-cam.com/users/MarinaCoavideos?view_as=subscriber
The house looked great but remember a lot of children died because of illnesses etc
That could be. 😊
They kept it pretty true to the books as well...with one exception Laura describes that the upstairs also held a lot of their dried goods and food, she and Mary would use the pumpkins as stools and tables. The books are still some of my favorite.
Thanks for adding that. I might have to do another tour in the Fall with pumpkins in the girls' room. 😉
My favorite show ever while growing up! Thanks for this episode! It was wonderful!
Glad you enjoyed it!😊
Marina, I enjoy your videos so much. I am glad to know I am not the only one who is so fascinated with the sets of these shows. I would always become so distracted during the show in figuring out the layout and how it all connected. I especially enjoyed this episode of Little House. Another video well done!
Glad you liked it. Discovering the layouts of these homes is like scratching an itch for me. 😊
I'm glad there are others who want to know the details of these homes.
These are so much fun to watch. I would love to see Jessica’s house from “Murder She Wrote” 😊
I've had others ask for that home. Someday.
Beautifully done! Thank you for all your wonderful work :)
Thank you.. Glad you liked it.
Awesome! You finally did it. Thank you!!
It took awhile. 😊
Alright Marina! One of my fave shows! Melissa Gilbert was our Sag-Aftra President way back 👍 Nice job here!

I loved this series as a kid, thank you. You did a wonderful job, the horse was a nice surprise. I don’t know if you’ve ever done any British series homes, but “Keeping up Appearances” had a lovely, interesting interior. 🏡
I loooove Keeping Up Appearances! Quote it almost daily around here. I'd love to do Hyacinth's home. ❤
Bouquet, darling, bouquet. Not Bucket.
Great video! I remember watching Monday nights at 8pm on NBC when I grew up. As a 12 year old kid, I cried when they blew up the town in the finale. I had basically known the buildings my whole life and it was the end of an era.
@@andyk6796 That was a somewhat traumatic end to a well-loved series.
I love the detail of the horse outside the window. You always do great work!
Thank you so much 😀
My favorite, thank you so much
Glad you liked it.
I'm glad you're enjoying the channel. 😊
This! I’m so excited about this one!
Yay! Hope you like it.
Great video and new sub
As Always Marina! Great Job... Thank you
Thank you!
Thank you, thank you! Loved watching this video so much. Your little girl is darling.
Thank you. Glad you liked it. 😊
Thank you for sharing your talents with us
Thanks for that suggestion. I haven't seen that movie. I'll have to check it out.
Thanks so much for posting such a realistic true view of little house for all us fans that's awesome so thoroughly done love it
Glad you enjoyed it!
Great job.
Thank you for this episode! What a treat to "walk" around that house.
I was so excited when I saw what you had created with Little House. Great job. Your attention to detail amazes me. Keep them coming.
Thank you! Will do!
I was wondering that same thing.
Thank you for making this video. I grew up on this show and I still love it today nearing 60. I have many fond memories with this show and also the Waltons because my grandparents would watch these shows because they lived in these eras. Thanks again! 🙌👍❤
😊
Oh my gosh!! I loved Little house on the prairie! So sweet! I'm with you! Love the fireplace! I didn't realize just how handsome Michael Landon wasn't until I got older 😁Thank you so much for sharing! What a sweet channel you have!. 💗
It was such a feel-good show, even though I cried at least once most episodes.
Marina, thank you for sharing this! I am a fan of Litlle House on the Prairie.
Me too! Glad you liked it. John Cato - the host from "That's Classic!" recommended it. He has done interviews with 3 of the main characters and they were a hit on his podcast. I had been wanting to do Little House for a long time. So his suggestion gave me the nudge I needed.
Such wonderful work, Marina. You are truly gifted. What a sweet helper you have there. ❤

Thank you so much. The simplicity of the set design & decor certainly never overshadowed the characters. I saw the black horse thru the wavy glass window. Finding your details is a bonus - and a big thing in this were the delicate placement of shadows via t the school house windows. Really one of your best tours.
Thank you! So glad you enjoyed this one.

Love that. What a great Christmas gift for kids.
Ty for sharing this beautiful little home we all loved Little House on The prairie great show😁🇨🇦🇨🇦

Wow cool, great work! Must have been some extra challenges in this dealing with the rough textures of frontier homes.
I was a little worried about making it realistic.
I so adored this treat to one of my favorite shows , how wonderful to see this , you went above n beyond , I THANK YOU SO MUCH , WELL DONE !!!

ABSOLUTLEY LOVE ALL UR VIDEOS TO MY CHILDHOOD COME TO LIFE 🙏❤️🙏❤️
I loved it, even though it was small, it still felt like home, and I never knew they add on a kitchen on the show, I should've known about it but I didn't.
Glad you liked it.
I think I am going to have a "little house on the prairie" marathon!

I have always thought I am the only one who pays attention to, and obsesses over, home details like this.
I do believe "Caroline" had a dresser behind the stone fireplace wall where she brushed her hair, directly under the loft dresser.

Little House was my fav. show growing UP! liked the Ingall's place & the mercantile, esp. candy jars!
As always, I LOVE your channel and I loved seeing this particular house. As with a ton of little girls who grew up in the 1970's, I know I am not alone in that I would think that I was secretly in that bedroom too....during all the times that they were on tv. Little House on the Prairie was such a wonderful show. Wish there were more shows of that caliber on TV now days. Thanks for showing us the inside in all of its awesome details. Great job!
Happy to do it, as a young girl back then, I wished the same thing. 😊

The desk upstairs was brilliant. It was the time of education changing your future. They prioritized it over a dresser. Besides they usually hung their dress to air out and wore day after day, except Sunday best.

As usual, very nice. I grew up watching Little House on the Prairie and I loved it. There was talk of a reboot, but I am sure they scrapped the idea. I doubt it would sell today. Come classics can't be duplicated.
I agree. It would be too hard to duplicate.
That’s so true. If you watched the reboot Walton’s movie that’s a perfect example.
@@annseabolt6645 There was a reboot of the Waltons? Wow.

I jumped when i saw movement outside that upper window. Just like in real life i would have moved closer to the window to find out what it was. I smiled when i saw the horse. Thank you for that small attention to detail.
😊
Grew up watching this show. The Ingalls house was so efficiently designed and you really got the sense that everything in it was made by one person.
And yes, even the other simple country homes always had a tiny bit of "luxury" the Ingalls never had, even if it was just a single plush chair or rooms separated by a door.
My favorite scenes always involved Mrs Olesen or Nellie. Plus I always had rather "fancy" taste as a child (🙄) so I enjoyed scenes in the Olesen's Victorian parlor.
Although I did think it'd be cool to have a loft bedroom!
