  • Great to see new FL5 Honda Civic Type R in Mugen and Spoon trim. S-chassis still are loved but it's great to see new offerings for the GT86 and it looks to become the next "fun affordable chassis. From Time Attack to drifting (and a lot beyond that) Tokyo Auto Salon has it all.
    Really appreciate you liking the video and sharing the channel!

    Finally someone who took their time and knew what they were talking about, and as a bonus held their camera steady. DP and PT shouted you out on insta and I'm glad they did! (and I'm right there with you on the RX8...)

      Gotta love @speedacademy! I really appreciate that you noticed!! Shaking cameras bother me as well so I really try to keep it steady. And yeah, I like to see and show as much of the finer details as possible (I'm certainly guilty of getting too much in the weeds sometimes, haha). RX8 needs to happen at some point. They're just too hard to ignore at the price point and with how many times I've heard different sources (DP included) say it's an amazing chassis...the question is just what engine to do???

    Ive watched the TAS vids as they've come out from a ton of different channels but man, you've gotten the KILLER Underground stuff (which is what Im all about) that NOONE else has because theyre all chasing the Big names and the views associated with that.
    You're a REAL Enthusiast doing this because you love it and it shows

      Oh man, making me blush over here! That is so appreciated - thank you! This year going into the show I really just made a point to focus on what gets me excited and I'm really happy based on your feedback and others that way of doing it seemed to be well received.
      I was also a bit more comfortable this year just asking random questions to booth reps to satisfy my curiosity but it was also nice to be able to share that info with you all.
      I don't think this will be another 150k view blow up video like last year but I'm really happy with how it came out and how it's been received. Feedback like this really makes me feel like I'm on the right track. ❤️

    Tein really has their little corner of the market. They are pretty much the best coilovers for comfort/sport that are priced somewhere in the middle of the market.

    • @BRICKHOUSESPL
      @BRICKHOUSESPL  ปีที่แล้ว

      That makes a lot of sense. It seems they're the go-to brand for tire shops here for customers who want to be low but aren't "car people." Which is probably the ultimate compliment since it means you make stuff that's going to last, ride decently, and be headache free.

    • @mrman8856
      @mrman8856 ปีที่แล้ว

      It is one of the best mods I've made for one of my daily drivers. I chose the Flex Z for a 2nd gen gs300 with a 12k front and 10k rear, and they are stiff without sacrificing ride comfort at the recommended lowered stance, of course.

    • @carlm8821
      @carlm8821 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Also the fact they last forever is another telling sign of build quality! Their products are quite common on the 2nd/3rd hand tuning market for decent prices, but like anything else, some sellers know this and will jack up the prices :(

  • @OkinawaWild
    @OkinawaWild ปีที่แล้ว +4

    Great content, Steve!
    The VPro is all HKS, and was good in its time. What killed it was that it was really only available through an HKS Proshop, and other than bootleg, the software to tune it was also only made available to Pro Shops... So if you bought one through a Pro Shop, they had to tune it, and even if you could buy a used one, it was hard to find the software, and no support. HKS did a lot of this, where certain parts were only available to HKS Pro Shops. Some of the small fish here in Oki have bootleg software, and refuse to learn anything newer and lightyears better, which is why VPro and PFC are still the bread and butter in the deep south 😆

    • @BRICKHOUSESPL
      @BRICKHOUSESPL  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Really appreciate that, Matt!
      It's really impressive for them to design an ECU from scratch as "just another product offering" instead of being a fully dedicated ECU/standalone company. That speaks to their capabilities. I figured they had partnered with someone, but, when they were designing the first piggybacks, I'm sure they were pushing the limits of available technology and the rest of the aftermarket has finally caught up.
      And that certainly makes sense as to what has held it back in terms of mass adoption. They gave their Pro Shop dealers a competitive advantage with a unique product only they can offer which likely resulted in the customer experience being better and HKS technical support load being greatly reduced. But like you said, it really limits the overall reach the product can have. Interesting business case for a product that no doubt has a ton of front end time into developing it.

I kind of wonder if this was developed for the export market (you guys have had Hilux trucks for years, right?) and now they're just bringing them back/offering them in Japan. New Landcruiser Prado's are really common to see here now and these Hilux are more and more common on the road as well. I think they're rad. It didn't cross my mind at the time, but that's probably diesel then, right?

    This model Lancer Wagon was sold here in Australia but with a different front end, non turbo, FWD in what we call here Povo (Poverty) Spec, and they are still EVERYWHERE.
    Mitsubishi produced them here in Australia so they were cheap as dirt and sold like crazy.
    We can only just now Import the OG EVO Wagons but i suspect that once theyre either gone or waaay too expensive people will buy them up for nothing and use them to do the Evo conversion like Trevor from Motion Auto did
    That build here in Oz would have been 1/8th of the cost because we have an abundance of these not only Wgaons, but base models as well as GSR's (1.8L Evo's essentially) RvR's and a steady stream of EVo Imports for 30 years

    • @BRICKHOUSESPL

      It's so weird how different parts of the world develop as little pockets of a certain type of car based on what got mass imported. Thinking of juicebox talking about all the hachiroku's in Ireland for the same reason.
      I've wanted to build a wagon since I was in college. I don't know if I'm any closer to finally buying one or what it will be when I do but I love a good wagon. I always keep an eye out for old Toyota wagons - Corolla, Public, Starlet, etc - that would make a good Beams swap candidate. But who knows what the future holds.

    Aussie here, the Hilux was the HIGHEST selling Vehicle here this year and last.
    4WD's and Offroading are the big thing here now (I dont get it but each to their own) So its a VERY smart move by Greddy to start making parts for this Market.
    LandCruisers and Patrols are the BIG ones (the older the better) Hiluxs are just below that followed by Nissan Navara's, Isuzu DMax's, VW Amaroks etc
    The Aftermarket support and DEMAND for 4WD stuff just in my small area in South East Queensland would blow your fucking mind.
    Guys here spend 120K on a brand new 79 Series Landcruiser then dump another 100K into it straight away
    We're now just getting Dodge Rams and Chevy Silverado's and its the same thing.
    HUGE money being spent to be able to go ANYWHERE in OZ, Outback, Mountain, Beaches, you name it.
    After the Spicy Flu most Aussies who used to travel overseas (like 90% of us) then couldnt, decided to see Australia instead.
    Caravan and RV sales went through the roof as well as these types of Vehicles and its still going
    I work on all these and Im flat out keeping up with demand

    • @BRICKHOUSESPL
      @BRICKHOUSESPL  ปีที่แล้ว

      Oh wow, I had no idea. And really you guys have a huge country so that makes a lot of sense in terms of getting out and exploring!
      I always knew Hilux's were popular (used to follow a dude on IG who made a new snorkel every day for a different customer, haha) but I had no idea to that extent!
      Japan is just hitting a new SUV and truck lifestyle. New Landcruiser Prados and G Wagons are everywhere in my neck of the woods. It all kind of has the feel of trying to capture some image of American lifestyle.
      Hilux's are seen more and more and it's pretty rad to see a "real truck" (not compared to full size American trucks though, haha) after so many years of kei trucks and ugly square utilitarian trucks. If trailers weren't so freaking expensive here, a Hilux or Landcruiser that can pull double duty as a family hauler or pulling a trailer to the track would be a tempting option. Might just go with the ol' tried and true car carrier if the time comes.

    Is it a legal requirement to be muzzled in Japan 😷

    • @BRICKHOUSESPL
      @BRICKHOUSESPL  ปีที่แล้ว

      Masks aren't legally required but, in my opinion, they're still worn out of a sense of looking out for those around you. I think people still wear them due to a feeling of not wanting to make others uncomfortable or possibly sick. Culturally, Japan is much more conscious of those around them. As a foreigner, if wearing a masks makes me more approachable and puts people at ease if I approach them, then I'm fine with it. It'll pass with time. It is also much more densely populated here with a lot more close contact situations - especially with elderly people - than my life in America in comparison, so I think it all plays into it. You have to remember Japanese people were wearing masks when they were sick or had a cold (or didn't want to get sick during cold season) long before Covid was a thing. It's hard to sum up in a YT comment but there's a lot of factors that play into masks still being worn here.

  • @p__jay
    @p__jay ปีที่แล้ว

    why you are still wearing a mask? i know you always had people wearing a mask in Japan, but only locals...

    • @BRICKHOUSESPL
      @BRICKHOUSESPL  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      On the 13th of this month (March), the government just started urging people that it's okay to not wear a mask so hopefully it starts changing and people relaxing a bit. I've already seen some people not wearing them. For events like this where there's a ton of people packed indoors, I would wear them as a way of making other people more comfortable especially if I want to approach and talk to people. You never know what someone thinks, believes, health risks they have, etc. so it was just easier to wear it. Also more people live with elderly family members here so I think people are just more cautious in general about bringing home any unwanted sickness. There's no simple answer. Just different culture/ideas.
