  • Los Angeles Fire Department was dispatched to the intersection of Pico Boulevard and Westwood Boulevard for a reported structure fire. Light Force 92 was first on scene and reported a one story row of commercials with fire through the roof. Firefighters initially went in the offense mode to attack the fire but switched to a defensive posture as conditions worsened. The rapidly growing fire caused an interior collapse of the structure, which was once a well-known eatery for those living on the westside. Firefighters utilized ladder pipes and exterior hand lines, known as "surround and drown", to get a handle on the blaze. It took firefighters 79 minutes to get a knockdown on the fire. No injuries were reported. The cause remains under investigation.

      Thank you for the compliment!!!
      But I would have to disagree with you being a 30 year plus veteran the LA city fire department is not the same Fire department as it used to be !!!
      If you believe this is orchestrated in your terms very well, you would not believe how structure fires were fought and managed 20 years ago !!!!

    The old Juniors’ Deli up in smoke! Pico Bl & Westwood Bl.
    Insurance job no doubt. Hence Arson was on scene.
    LAFD did exactly what they were supposed to on a total loss, protect the other structures and let that thing burn w/o taking unnecessary risk. It’s called surround & drown.
    Great catch!!

    When's LA going to learn that it takes big guns & big water to put out a fire like that. 😩

      I'll never understand it. They could easily hit the Delta side windows with deck guns without being in the collapse zone, and they had two trucks with sticks up...

    Glad that there were no injuries to anyone related to this incident, and with that much fire the surround and drown is your best action.
    Thank you to all firefighters everywhere for protecting the citizens of your coverage area.

    I posted a video of our local volunteer fire department attacking a mobile home fire and the commenters absolutely tore them up. Sorry, but what I’m seeing here is either not the whole story or needs a lot of explaining regarding their strategy and tactics 😢

      A minimum of 10 ladder trucks pouring water down at a minimum that blaze will be under control !!!!!

    I don’t understand the use of the high pieces so late into the alarm ? So much valuable time passing in the free burning stage of the fire . How about deck gun usage ? Hand lines weren’t cutting it .

    LA using wooden ladders says all you need to know about what century they're in. Having guys on the roof with flame shooting through it and no prepipe waterways. Or ladder towers. Only department in the country that operates that way. What does that say?

    • @jmWhyMe
      @jmWhyMe 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Lots of departments in California and elsewhere use only ladders and not buckets. But not having ladder pipes is weird. Also, I can tell you that FDNY has towers and rescue rigs that can't even drive straight out of their houses or make a lot of turns because of their length. Tillers can make those turns and more, much more easily...

    • @harvynussbaum5182
      @harvynussbaum5182 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@jmWhyMe Yeah, I know all that you could still put a pipe on a tiller. Just because a lot of departments do it doesn't mean it's a great idea either. But I understand they're just in the dark ages.

    Another bakery gone for good, sob😢.....! Worth noticing that the fire is escalating in seconds at 2:30! At 3:10 the burning bakery looks like an oil rig in full blaze😮!
    Sorry, it has nothing to do with the LAFD's response, but at about 12:55 I spot something that has died out in EVERY city in Germany: the parking meter!
    All the best from Germany, may St. Florian be with you!

    Im sorry but the truth is that this place was getting ready to go. The amoint of ladder pipes and wagon batterys just sitting idle is embarrassing. We all knew this was a total loss and there was nonsabing it. But, the inaction from firefighters and just the simple fact that only after the fire had gotten out of control....did they start using the pipes

  • @jimkeappock7558
    @jimkeappock7558 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Strategy, is non existent. There is no overhead attack on the fire. As usual I see guys running around and one guy on the knob. How about heavy caliber streams, wait I see a ladder pipe. Took ‘‘em long enough.
